I would say Resident Evil 2 Remake, as much as I like RE4 remake.

Atmosphere in remake 2 is in a completely different league, and that in a horror game is key.

Only played TLOU2 for five hours, so it doesn't count, but I'm enjoying RE4 Remake way, way more than TLOU. Obviously, not the storytelling but pure gameplay.

Tlou p2 gameplay is the king.
Playing RE4 remake right now. Game is good but gameplay always feels floaty. Animation is okay at the best and AI is stupid.

RE4 of course. Had a bigger impact on gaming in general. Also where is Dead Space? OP Messing up smh

It really depends on how much video you want in your video games.

The Last Of Us constantly breaks up the action with cut scenes, whereas Resident Evil 4 mostly lets you get on with blasting body parts of the baddies.

I played TLOU once but never felt an inclination to replay it because the story had been told. RE 4 on the other hand I fine eminently replayable, so that gets my vote.

I think all do things well

Story - TLOU1
Mechanics - TLOU2
Gameplay - RE4 - gets the nod for variety

I can’t imagine listing Last of Us as a contender, while leaving out other horror games like Dead Space, Gears of War, Zombie Army, and Bayonetta 3.

just come off re4 to tlou and I'm a lot more tense playing tlou, the camp cheese of re4 real squashes the horror feel

Tlou 2 for me.

Clicker/bloater/rat king section were scarier/generate more suspence than anything inside re4 (imo) and i just prefer the gunplay/animations/violence much more in the nd game.

Ds remake should be in that poll. I also liked that one more than re4R.

I haven't even played RE4 and I know it's the better horror game. TLOU ain't scary. There are "zombies" but that's it. The most horrific thing about TLOU games is how much unnecessary violence there is. I think Naughty Dog get off on that thing which is weird.

Odd the only one there that is supposed to be a horror game is the least scary of them all.

All three great games though.

Easily, easily RE4 (2005). Top 5 games ever too.
I don't think any of them games are horror though. Or maybe in a broader sense they are, i dunno.

People have some really loose interpretations for "horror".

Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines.
Silent Hiil 2 OG
Resident Evil (2002)

Did you seriously compare RE4 to TLOU and asked which is the better horror? Depends if you like your horror grounded(ish) or outlandish tbf

The comparisons are completely valid not sure why people are getting bent out of shape.

I voted re4 remake it wins on variety and the melee and shooting flows nicely together.

I think returnal is the best overall tps though.

The gameplay feels completely natural in TLoU2. The encounters all feel hand crafted and they're always fun. The maps and AI are well done.

The mechanics of RE4 remake are really fun, though. I can do the quick math in my head: melee this guy, 3 bullets for that guy, then I'll shotgun my way over there, reload, etc. It feels like John Wick. It can get super hectic at times, but thats when the gameplay really shines.

They're both amazing.

(Vanquish is the best.)

None of them are actually horror games. Perhaps RE4 remake...

I would say RE1 remake or the original RE series(1,2 and 3).

I'd say that there are some great choices missing here, but from the selections you provided, RE4 by a landslide for me.

we talking better game or better horror game?

TLOU2 is better in every department, I’d argue it’s objectively a better game than re4 remake.

The gameplay runs circle around RE4 remake. It’s not even close.

All Leon can do in gameplay is kick, parry and shoot lol. Meanwhile in cutscenes, he is Rambo.

While TLOU2 is the ultimate third person combat. Ellie feels like a super soldier in comparison to Leon during gameplay.

As strictly horror though re4 remake is bomb. Although I still prefer TLOU more grounded horror than the action horror. TLOU 2 even feels scarier because its more grounded.

TLOU1 has the best narrative. But as far as pure fun factor is concerned, it definitely goes to RE4R.

TLOU2 has probably the best and most fluid gameplay, but RE4R has far more variety when it comes to encounters, enemy types, and set piece battles. Not to mention TLOU2 is like an 80/20 ratio between Cutscenes and Gameplay, and the Cutscenes are good if you're the type of person who loves Misery Porn.

It clearly loses out to Resident Evil 4 Remake, but I still want to mention The Suffering because that game brought me a lot of joy for many years.

I will say that so far revisiting The Last of Us has been a true horror game.
I’ve walked around buildings. Grabbed a plank to make it across a building. Walked around some more. Fought with the shitty stick aiming before switching to superior mouse/keyboard.
Walked some more. Fought a couple humans. Talked.

It’s been terrifying.

RE4 has good variety but, whats the point of enemy variety if they all attack you in the same way? Most of those zombie dudes in RE4 attack you in the same way, they just have different skins.

Essentially they either just slowly walk towards you and lunge, or try to spear you/throw an axe at you.

For as much enemy variety as RE4 Remake has, its actual moment to moment gameplay is nowhere near as varied as TLOU 2.

Im kicking and parrying zombies the exact same way for the entirety of RE4. In TLOU 2 im switching up my approach in the middle of an encounter, and choosing how I want to approach each encounter.
