It is a us vs them mentality. Fine by me, mate.
I'm not on the board of Sony nor do i have stocks with them so i only care about what games their ecosystem games wise and feature wise, they are shitting the bed hard there for me. Maybe you don't care but as someone that plays almost every genre, i was very much looking forward to Team Siren next horror game or having the next ND game be some PS5 tailored game and also it doesn't sit well that my digital library on PSvita and PS3, that i'm still chipping at got just much worse by not only removing the ability of remote downloads from the web, but now also removing the console store making me have to dive through hundred of items in the download list to even find and download something. It's fucking obvious mate.
Open up YouTube and you'll see a dozen anti-PS videos. We've had thread after thread created on this forum regarding Jim and how he's driving PS into the ground. There's anti-PS threads popping up everywhere.
Also this happened before and at the beginning of last gen too. At that time you could have sworn Xbox was going to put PS out of business the way some people were acting and posting all kinds of doom and gloom for Sony both on this forum and in the media. And just like last gen Sony was radio silent from the get go, just like they are now and ended up crushing the competition.
Also don't get the hate for Jim Ryan. He wouldn't be promoted to such an important role if he was an egg. PS is one of (if not) Sony's most important division so I'm sure you have higher ups who are looking in the best interest of the business by putting someone in charge who is competent and can push the division forward.
But nevermind Jim's record of turning Europe into Fortress Sony. Xbox would be lucky to even get a sniff in that region.
So yeah I'm of the opinion that there seems to be some sort of anti-PS/Sony media blitz and some forum members here are trying to amplify that. You even have some PS fans in this forum losing their shit (if they are even PS fans).
I get that we're going through a pandemic Everything is fucked up. People are at home more now than before the pandemic but this is getting absolutely ridiculous.
Fair enough. It seems that a lot of people believe that PlayStation can't do anything because they don't have as much money as MS, and that's where the savage part comes up. If Sony needed to spend a crazy amount of money or make strategic partnerships they would do it to keep their dominance. Sony is not going to left their (probably most) important division just rest in their laurels watching MS and other companies eat the cake.
So far...Two weeks of bad PR. Woow.Imo Sony really dont have as much money as MS.
And with their new leader, who seems a non-gamer, purely financial suit person. and outdated (wrt tech) even...
Think it is fair for some to come to such conclusions.
The results so far...dont seem to contradict our fears.
Exactly.By 'fairly standard' do you mean the usual Xbox is doomed? A couple of days without that must've come as quite the shock.
It didn't take much positive MS/negative Sony news to bring out the conspiracy nutters.
What is you people's obession with not owning games. Sorry but I don't like games as a service or rentals. I like to own my games, or at least like psplus have them not go away. I can play any game i got on plus from 10 years ago, today. Game pass is overhyped on here and it's getting tiring hearing the zealots. So you see Japan move away from Sony because they didn't play hard enough in portable gaming and just say oh well and think the same shift can't happen in the US when they don't have an answer to Gamepass?
So far...Two weeks of bad PR. Woow.
The last time that was so much fear/concern/ doom and gloom about PlayStation was before the PS5 launch. There were a lot of "tech Experts and leakers" saying the PS5 was very weak and lacked some capabilities that XBSX had, like machine learning and Raytracing. It is obvious that a lot of people were just misinformed or plain ignorant about a lot of things.
The same is repeating now, people are in their right to be fearful, cry or blame an executive for "ruining their childhood", and as i already said this is good because is pressure for Playstation.
At this point last gen, it was literally the exact opposite of how you remember it. At this exact point last gen the Xbox One had been ridiculed for months, there was still people claiming it wouldn't play used games or work at all offline. Despite having more exclusives compared to the PS4 at this point, it was obvious it was suffering a brand image problem that even Titanfall could rectify which had released only a month prior. Meanwhile this place was daily chock full of that video of people flocking past the XB1 in stores in order to rush for the PS4's. By this time the image of Mattrick crying "No" had even been cleverly photoshopped into it.It's fucking obvious mate.

Sure. But having "all the money in the world" Is not a guarantee of anything either. What's is going With the windows store? = failure. (Valve stole the entire market of pc gaming from this huge company) How Netflix became the number one on streaming "without" money?. In other words: if the situation gets real bad for sony they would be capable to still be competitive even if that means bleeding money for a long time. (It wouldn't be the first time too).
Well yeah....on paper. Remember the "Is the Tools" meme? Their approach of Slower but wider vs narrow but faster is the only fascinating thing going on. As always is going to be on the devs to really show the true potential of these machines.Tbf, ps5 is less powerful and lack newer hardware accelerators. As for RT, people were going off the github leak, and since mark cerny had to clarify, it was ok. At least mark decided to clarify....
$90 cdn. Add tax and you're over $100."70$. This is only egregious in Europe where it’s 80€"... Really? Hmm.. pretty sure Canada, Mexico, Brazil, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa... oh hell...pretty sure it feels egregious to practically everyone including the U.S..
What "newer hardware accelerators"? Be specific (and please don't start repeating VRS, SFS, etc. because those are RDNA 2 features, which both consoles use). It will be machine learning and ray-traycing all over again.Tbf, ps5 is less powerful and lack newer hardware accelerators. As for RT, people were going off the github leak, and since mark cerny had to clarify, it was ok. At least mark decided to clarify....
It doesn’t get more Japanese than Ghost of Tsushima
You and I remember the beginning of the last generation very differently, Hawking.... Also this happened before and at the beginning of last gen too. At that time you could have sworn Xbox was going to put PS out of business the way some people were acting and posting all kinds of doom and gloom for Sony both on this forum and in the media...
There is narrative trying to be created that they are anti-consumer and arrogant again.
Death stranding was great... I could have done without the 2 hour ending but other then that I enjoyed it .
Having all that money definitely isn't a guarantee, but it makes things much easier. It allows them to take more risks, and it allows them to play the long game. How did Valve steal the pc market? How did Netflix corner the streaming market? In Valves case, they largely got it right the first time when MS didn't. Netflix on the other hand stalked the market with mail in rentals until streaming became a technical reality, and were first to pounce. Had they done so any earlier, they'd have done so prematurely. Any later, and they could've been beaten by the likes of Crackle.Sure. But having "all the money in the world" Is not a guarantee of anything either. What's is going With the windows store? = failure. (Valve stole the entire market of pc gaming from this huge company) How Netflix became the number one on streaming "without" money?. In general I agree with what you are saying. But Sony can totally mimic almost any move xbox makes if they really, really need to.
A coordinated effort huh? Yeah, surely there's a conspiracy theory at work here. That explains it.I agree. People need to take all these "Sony is doing so bad" rumors with a huge bottle of salt.
This seems like a coordinated effort against PS, turning each positive rumor into a negative one (MS is now working on Konami IPs, instead of Sony), or just presenting simple, everyday processes in a negative light, like Bend Studios pitch got rejected, OMG! Sony is doomed, while ignoring that they are working on a new IP which is likely riskier, but Sony trusts Bend to pull it off.
So we’ve all been watching Sony getting bad rep recently for some of their decisions etc. There is narrative trying to be created that they are anti-consumer and arrogant again. But it’s all a trap, don’t be naive people. It’s a trap to keep Sony investing in areas that are useless right now.
1. Why are they abandoning old gens? Because I’m sure they have exact data that tells them nobody is playing this stuff. We’ve seen this many times when company decides to pull the plug on something nobody plays anymore but because of sentimental value loud group of forum dwellers try to create a fuss. Ridiculous. Just do it and save the money.
2. What is Sony’s answer to Gamepass? There doesn’t need to be one. Their game development is costly, yes but they also sell a lot and are providing record profits for gaming division. Something is clearly working. PS Plus and Now are just enough.
3. Getting rid of Japan Studio. Japan is lost cause, they moved on from home console gaming for one reason or another. It’s all handheld and it’s all Nintendo. This isn’t Sony’s fault. Don’t tell me they created such a Japanese-centric games before because they didn’t, they only had third-party monopoly back at the time. It doesn’t get more Japanese than Ghost of Tsushima and it still didn’t sell as much as it should there (as your typical Monster Hunter or Dragon Quest) considering it’s their fucking history.
4. Jimbo refused Kojima. Yes, because his game they invested so much in was a commercial (and to an extent critical) flop. If we can draw one conclusion from Sony’s MO is that they don’t tolerate failure. They gave him everything he wanted including help from other major studio, something he didn’t have at Konami during his last project there and he produced them that!? Let Microsoft fund his craziness from now on, good riddance.
5. Sony only creates narrative-focused action-adventures that all look and play samey. Well, that’s objectively not true because they funded many experimental projects but key is that they found their niche and are excelling at it. It’s become their brand and what community expects from them. It works. People that don’t wish Sony good are trying to tell them to do something else, create new IP, experiment with indie ideas etc. Meaning, burn your hard-earned money just to feel good all the way to bankruptcy. Why don’t you tell Nintendo to finally move on from Zelda and Mario after 30 fucking years or Microsoft with their worn out Halo franchise. Na-ah, I’m seeing right through your ill intentions.
6. 70$. This is only egregious in Europe where it’s 80€ but because of the weak dollar right now it’s nothing in US. Your recent standard hike perfectly justifies this price hike. But key here is that Sony’s games drop their price relatively quickly and there are tons of sales and deals throughout the year, it’s really not an issue unless you’re Day 1 zealot. Nintendo, meanwhile, doesn’t know what discount is, sells their old games at full price and people still buy their shit in droves.
Conclusion. Jim Ryan led SCEE very successfully for years and that’s why he got this job. Even if some decisions are not immediately popular with tiny but loud internet crew, I’m sure they’re best for the company. Until it shows in financial results I have no reason to doubt them. Dark days of early-mid PS3 lifecycle will never come back again.
That's how they have been for 26 years.they are anti-consumer and arrogant again
That's how they have been for 26 years.
Excellent recollection. Let me expand on it.You and I remember the beginning of the last generation very differently, Hawking.
I remember that prior to the consoles being announced, sure, the expectation was that Microsoft couldn't lose. Sony had mustered a late-gen resurgence, but the PS3 had cost them far too dearly. Prior to both consoles being revealed, there was hot speculation that Microsoft had the generation in the bag; that's about the worst of it really, because no one foresaw a scenario where Sony's "old school" strategy could win out against Microsoft's forward thinking approaches. Of course, no one foresaw Don Mattrick and the Xbone.
Anyway, I remember that once the consoles were announced and the pre-launch fiesta was on, it was an unending avalanche of shit - anti-Microsoft posts, threads, articles, videos, interviews, think-pieces and editorials. And I do mean un-ending. From the day the Xbone was revealed, you could hit F5 around here and elsewhere and there was always some new article, thread, or post raking Microsoft across the coals. Sure, they earned them, because the Xbone and their strategy was pure garbage - but, boy - it. Did. Not. Stop. Post-launch, it barely got better - every thread, every game announcement, every conference, every damn time someone wrote the word "Xbox", things went badly. "Remember the DRM?" It really wasn't until the Xbox One S did the tide start to turn, and Microsoft only really started actually making ground once the Xbox One X launched. In contrast, Sony were hailed as the saviours of the medium from the day the Xbone was revealed until the very end of the generation, such was the strength of their good will, their games, and their PR team. I don't remember a circus of "Sony's dead" that came close to the Xbone fiasco; in fact, I've never seen anything close to the Xbone's cyclone of shit.
Flash forward until today, and the people responsible for Sony's good will and PR are gone. There's no Jack Tretton making a mockery of Xbox for the world to see. No Andrew House straight-shooting the business side to the audience. There's no Shu Yoshida dropping a Banderas for fan applause, or even a Shawn Layden wearing a Medievil T-Shirt. There's just Jim Ryan in business shirts and the news articles where Sony closes online stores, closes studios, and hikes game prices. Are fan boys running wild the non-sense, enamored by Sony's quiet approach to business? Sure, I think that's pretty much self-evident at this point; fan-boys gonna fan-boy.
But, is there an international multi-media conspiracy conducted by "Sony's enemies" to destroy PlayStation... apparently by shit posting on NeoGAF, making click-bait YouTube videos, and have the audacity to talk about Gamepass? I'm not seeing it, myself.
Who is "you people?"What is you people's obession with not owning games. Sorry but I don't like games as a service or rentals. I like to own my games, or at least like psplus have them not go away. Yeah, as if that never happened before:A coordinated effort huh? Yeah, surely there's a conspiracy theory at work here. That explains it.
Okay, seriously, what's going in in this GIF?
Well yeah....on paper. Remember the "Is the Tools" meme? Their approach of Slower but wider vs narrow but faster is the only fascinating thing going on. As always is going to be on the devs to really show the true potential of these machines.
What i am saying is: XBSX is not strong enough to brute force better performance against the PS5. (In theory with better optimization XBSX should "win") but basically, these consoles have the same performance.
What "newer hardware accelerators"? Be specific (and please don't start repeating VRS, SFS, etc. because those are RDNA 2 features, which both consoles use). It will be machine learning and ray-traycing all over again.
Also, no, Mark Cerny didn't have to clarify anything. He first revealed raytracing in April 2019! Then it was explicitly confirmed that the ray-tracing is HW based in October 2019 (which is only possible in RDNA2). The Github leak and the RDNA1 ray-tracing began in 2020.
Those rumors were just FUD for those who didn't fully understand the tech.
Posters aren’t enemies. The almost instant attitude shift that has occurred in the literal last two weeks isn’t an organic or natural one. I was here one day and the threads were all fairly standard and more about games with some light console warring, the next it was all Sony is doomed. It wasn’t gradual and it didn’t coincide with any particular piece of news. Look at the comical amounts of baseless, too good to be true rumors being posted near daily giving us all reason to be super excited for Xbox. Funny coincidence that they have no big games aside from halo to sell their console. “But buy an Xbox, you might get Mario, wink” “oh what’s that? I hear Xbox may have another major unannounced game this year.”
Anyone that doesn’t at least try to understand the scope of astroturfing and the general control a 2 trillion dollar company can take of any website or forum they decide to is ignorant on purpose. Especially in the context of a company that has been caught doing it again and again.
