Hilarious. You’ve listed a big long pile of legitimate complaints, but have done some tremendous mental gymnastics to explain them all away. And your argument is that other people are part of a campaign, or are shilling? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Also, care to explain why only EU pricing at €80 is out of order, but £70 is completely fine? Even though £70 is €80.65/$96.52 at the current exchange rate?

You’ve got your head up Sony’s arse mate. We pay £50 a year for online services, I’m sure Sony can afford the nominal cost of keeping the PSN stores open. No one is saying stop doing AAA games, they are saying they still want a stream of AA games also, like Journey and Puppeteer, which Sony was able to deliver during the PS3 era.

I swear we have some Sony stock holders on GAF as they only seem to care about Sony’s bottom line and are happy to accept and explain away any anti-consumer policy from them, in order to justify the financial benefit for the company. Pathetic.

I totally agree about the price hike, especially in tough times as now, feels greedy menz.

I mean, i already stop buying launch PC games and waiting for sales.

Im not sure how younger gamers wont feel the pinch to drop $100 bucks on a game. I can never imagine myself doing so back in my old days. 🤷‍♀️

What kills me is the digital price, you have NO ownership (no disc)
it costs NOTHING to produce (again no disc)
and it can be duplicated ad-nauseum so no printing cost (Nada Disc)
No money for adverts, books, labels etc (bla bla disc)
Lastly, unlike a disc a digital code can't be sold, so there's no real 3rd party market thus no MAJOR loss in sales (must mention disc)

SO WHY THE HELL IS DIGITAL SO #$!^#&*^%^$@%$#!@#$%$ EXPENSIVE?!?

I dont think anyone expects SX gap to be as big as ps4 ones. But still good enough to at least get a 30% win in cases like resolution or fps, or showing better graphics at same fps.

Those qouted accelarators that MS waited and built into SX will help, yes they have names to it, not fully PR, but something for identification of new features to excite us.

As for the github leak, so far it was proven to be real beta ps5 hardware, and it did lacked hardware RT. That was the questions posed before mark came out again to confirm hardware RT.
  1. 30% FPS is a huge difference, very similar to PS4 vs. Xbox One. We are not going to see that at all this generation.
  2. You're talking about VRS and SFS etc.? Bro, those are RDNA2 features. Both consoles have versions of them. We have literally seen an example of that with ML. Sony just can't use the term DirectML (because that is MS's property). Sony also doesn't use the term Directx Ray Tracing (same reason), but it does not mean that PS5 does not use ray-tracing. We don't even know Sony's ray-tracing API name. Sony just doesn't market this stuff. It never has.
  3. No, you are wrong. Github leak was in December 2019. And Mark Cerny had already explicitly confirmed HW-based RDNA2 ray-tracing 3 months before that in October 2019. The Github "leak" was absolutely unnecessary because it was representing a feature set that was explicitly debunked by Mark Cerny just a couple of months ago.

Tbf, some value ownership and collections. Others dont mind paying lower price to play and complete the games.
Before the internet, most of us grew up renting games.
I can see GP striking a balance between owning and renting as MS moves to a tier system. This should answers the critics about GP is unsustainable, too cheap for AAA games etc etc . 🤷‍♀️

Man, you do know this is just a forum, right? We are 0.01% of the gaming public. Big companies at best see us hardcore gamers as useful barometers but would never base huge financial decisions on a bunch of forum posters.

I cant see that link but the github leak was gamers speculating if ps5 were to use software or custom RT and the likes. I dont think it is Fud. at least it got mark to commit on 'hardware RT' in his marketing message.

We are already seeing 30% resolution advantage in some SX games.
Imo there is more to come

Iirc ps4 vs Xbone was 30% fps + 30% resolution or thereabout. ps4 was like 50% the hardware specs of Xbone. The kinnect did MS dirty back then.

Imo Xbone lost the forums wars and that spillover to the gaming public.
Like also recent example of XBL Gold back pedaling...we have the power to make gaming a better place. :messenger_smiling:🤞

Bro, read my post again. Mark didn't comment on anything. He had confirmed PS5 will feature HW-based ray-tracing 3 months before the supposed Github "leak". Also, that leak showed RDNA 1, which was incorrect.

And we have seen 30% resolution and FPS advantage in favor of PS5 at times. It does not mean that PS5 is 30% more powerful than XSX. (Also, with DRS, we shouldn't even be measuring the differences as 30% anymore).

As I've always maintained on this forum, both these consoles are remarkably similar to each other. The only differences that appear are because of the specific game, game engine, and developer's optimization techniques. Sometimes, those differences are in favor of PS5 (AC:V, DMC5, COD, Dirt 5), and sometimes they are in favor of XSX (Outriders, Hitman 3).

Why the hell is this stream of consciousness / defense force allowed? It's the kind of console war bullshit that had Gamepass stuff relegated to one thread somewhat.

So we’ve all been watching Sony getting bad rep recently for some of their decisions etc. There is narrative trying to be created that they are anti-consumer and arrogant again. But it’s all a trap, don’t be naive people. It’s a trap to keep Sony investing in areas that are useless right now.

1. Why are they abandoning old gens? Because I’m sure they have exact data that tells them nobody is playing this stuff. We’ve seen this many times when company decides to pull the plug on something nobody plays anymore but because of sentimental value loud group of forum dwellers try to create a fuss. Ridiculous. Just do it and save the money.

2. What is Sony’s answer to Gamepass? There doesn’t need to be one. Their game development is costly, yes but they also sell a lot and are providing record profits for gaming division. Something is clearly working. PS Plus and Now are just enough.

3. Getting rid of Japan Studio. Japan is lost cause, they moved on from home console gaming for one reason or another. It’s all handheld and it’s all Nintendo. This isn’t Sony’s fault. Don’t tell me they created such a Japanese-centric games before because they didn’t, they only had third-party monopoly back at the time. It doesn’t get more Japanese than Ghost of Tsushima and it still didn’t sell as much as it should there (as your typical Monster Hunter or Dragon Quest) considering it’s their fucking history.

4. Jimbo refused Kojima. Yes, because his game they invested so much in was a commercial (and to an extent critical) flop. If we can draw one conclusion from Sony’s MO is that they don’t tolerate failure. They gave him everything he wanted including help from other major studio, something he didn’t have at Konami during his last project there and he produced them that!? Let Microsoft fund his craziness from now on, good riddance.

5. Sony only creates narrative-focused action-adventures that all look and play samey. Well, that’s objectively not true because they funded many experimental projects but key is that they found their niche and are excelling at it. It’s become their brand and what community expects from them. It works. People that don’t wish Sony good are trying to tell them to do something else, create new IP, experiment with indie ideas etc. Meaning, burn your hard-earned money just to feel good all the way to bankruptcy. Why don’t you tell Nintendo to finally move on from Zelda and Mario after 30 fucking years or Microsoft with their worn out Halo franchise. Na-ah, I’m seeing right through your ill intentions.

6. 70$. This is only egregious in Europe where it’s 80€ but because of the weak dollar right now it’s nothing in US. Your recent standard hike perfectly justifies this price hike. But key here is that Sony’s games drop their price relatively quickly and there are tons of sales and deals throughout the year, it’s really not an issue unless you’re Day 1 zealot. Nintendo, meanwhile, doesn’t know what discount is, sells their old games at full price and people still buy their shit in droves.

Conclusion. Jim Ryan led SCEE very successfully for years and that’s why he got this job. Even if some decisions are not immediately popular with tiny but loud internet crew, I’m sure they’re best for the company. Until it shows in financial results I have no reason to doubt them. Dark days of early-mid PS3 lifecycle will never come back again.

The other thing to remember is that neither system is using a next gen graphics engine yet... So what we are seeing is current gen pushed. Just look at DemonSouls...I mean this gen gave us RDR2 at native 4K and LOU2 two of the most impressive games this gen.

I fully expect the X to take a resolution lead with the higher GPU, but fall behind the V with load times, and anything else regarding the SSD on the V the bulk of the time, but nothing that massive sans an outlier here or there.

The one area of comparison that's bull is BC as the V is simply pushing Pro mode (at time FPS unlocked) while the S XseX is hardwired to enhance that stuff...Due to awesome foresight and great legacy support the XseX can't be beat for BC!

Both systems will be pushing mind blowing stuff in a few years, thats where this will REALLY be tested. The exclusives will push these systems then we can compare

There is only one country that sold more PS4s than Japan, and that's the US.

Jesus Christ man. How many copies 'should' it have sold? It was well received and sold well.
Should games about the American civil war sell millions of copies in the US because it is their fucking history?

I swear, I have several friends working for Playstation in Japan and even they don`t come up with this shit to defend the very people that actual sustain them economically.
This is some ridiculous persecution complex.
Because it's just work to them, but you have to understand that for some people everything PlayStation related is like a family member and you have to defend family at all cost. For most people human beings are the center of life, for others animals and for some plastic toys.

Yes, it ms behind everything, they forced Sony to close ps3 web store, cancel patches, increase prices of their games, release mlb on gamepass, tell everyone how they believe in generations and then announce Lots of cross gen titles, ignore ps1-ps3 legacy, don’t support 1440 resolution, don’t offer storage expansion 6 months after release, kill japan studio, cancel days gone 2, release weaker hardware (TFlops), paid Sony fanboys on neogaf to create negative threads calling for Jim Ryan’s head...all mighty Microsoft is behind everything.

I don't think these are traps.....

However much like back in 2013, the media back then tried to correct things to make the competition between companies more even...
Now the media and other personalities are all advocating for GamePass and adding to positive sentiment for Xbox, for probably a few reasons.... like the industry appearing to be competitive and keeping Microsoft marketing money and other cash flowing into gaming.

Without one of the big 3, so many developers would be out of work and so many companies would just collapse or be scraping by, that I think everyone has what could be compared to a gentleman's agreement to try and keep a balance.

That's my feeling on what might be going on behind the scenes.... a bit tinfoil hatty, I know. But it makes sense....

As much as dramatic the thread titles sounds, OPs points are actually spot on. Really, if you actually think about it, turns out the hypocrisy within Sony's die-hard fans is through the roof:

Point 1 - not so long ago people applauded Ryan for the now infamous "we believe in generations" quote, which was supposedly a contrary strategy to MS supporting older generations, that "that's how the shit's done", and now when they're actually unplugging the life support for old generations and want to focus solely on PS5 nad the upcoming future they're the evil Sony now... If those old platforms generates a noticeable revenue they would most likely keep supporting them, but apparently the cost of running those servers was bigger than the income they generated. And you have to say, they kept those old stores for entire PS4 generation, almost a decade.

Point 2 - "if it ain't broken, don't fix it" - Sony has a strategy that clearly works for them, and works too damn well.

Point 3 - Japan is not interested in home consoles anymore and there's nothing Sony can do about it. I find it funny how people brag about console/game sales number almost every single week, completely forgetting that none of those numbers comes from Japan...

Point 4 - as it turned out Kojima's name alone is not enough to sell games anymore, he might have high (and expensive) aspirations, but those ambitions need to bring money at the end of the day to fund next projects. I mean, KP is an independent studio, if DS was very successful they wouldn't need to ask anyone for funds for their next game.

Point 5 - see point 2. Although I personally do miss the old Sony from PSX/PS3/PS3 times where had every genre covered, so I see where people's complaints come from. But again, it's all just a business, so we cannot blame them for doing what's best for them.

Point 6 - the 70$ is a bummer for many, but again it not just Sony's decision but pretty much every publisher out there, 70 is the new 60 and within few years no one will remember anymore that games used to be cheaper. But the bright side is that we see games dropping their prices literally few months after the release, because apparently that price point is too high for many people out there.

nonsense. this has been building up for months if not a year. going back to the disastrous road to ps5. the only difference was that MS was fucking up more than Sony and it was easier to shit on MS. Now MS has tightened their ship and Sony is fucking up on a weekly basis.
Cerny : Here are the facts of what we're doing. Thanks for listening, see you at launch

Microsoft: Greenberg over-hyped 3rd party gameplay. Then over-hyped the reveal trailers, which turned out to NOT be running on xbox. Then Spencer hyped up Halo. Messaging changed from "Most powerful console in the world" to "most powerful xbox". Hellblade 2 was a trialer running on PC, likewise the initial Halo reveal

But nahh, Sony's was disasterous?

I agree with what people are saying in this thread; if a company fucks up, give them stick, not cover. Unfortunately, people are aiming at Sony for being Sony. and they've changed very little in over two decades. Sony and Nintendo know what works and they keep doing it, because it works.

Microsoft have again been caught with their pants down with phoney messages and out-right fabrications. This is the company we should be ragging on and riding, until they get back to their best. Microsoft at their peak were IMO the best this industry has ever seen (sorry Sega) and i want those golden years to return. Maybe they will. Maybe Spencer is going to 360 this gen out of the park. But history and his own words betray him.

I think the concern is overblown but I disagree strongly on the Japan Studio part. It’s not like they were producing Panty simulator 2020 or other games that only sell in Japan, they were producing games that were popular internationally, although they didn’t sell as much as Naughty Dog or others.

Back when I bought my fat PS3 the game I played the most was everybody’s golf world tour. Back on my Vita I played another Everybody’s Golf game, Gravity Rush, Soul Sacrifice etc. I see it as big loss.

People laugh but right now all this bashing and whining is nonsense, the console is out just a few months and it already has a lot more stuff than the competition, exclusives and their free games are at an all time high.

I am not saying Microsoft does this, but the xboxera army and xbox fans are certainly to blame for all these attacks, I am pissed off by the rumors that Sony loses everything and Microsoft buys it.
But it's just rumors, I don't see how Sony will just hand everything that made them what they are to Microsoft just like that because Jim didn't drink coffee in the morning.

People forget that some of those so called insiders were also bashing PS5 just to turn the tide(Dusk Golem for example), using their reputation to favor their favorite toy is just pathetic and only time will tell what's true or not, I hope Sony will do what Sony does best and close the mouths of those clowns, BTW if all those rumors are true, pretty much Microsoft will get Sega, KojiPro, Bandai, Bluepoint, Konami IPS, I think there was even a rumor for capcom and on top of it they will offer all these for 1$ per month, while Jim will remake TLOUS 3 times in a row.
That's just ridiculous and no sane man can believe all that.

I think that's all fine... If you are happy with Sony's choices, no one needs to tell you otherwise.

I am personally annoyed with them killing the Japan Studios, letting go people that was present since the Ps1 release and worked on so many games that I like, it is bad in my book. But if you never cared about those games, you're definitely not affected.

I think that there are two types of PlayStation fans riggt now: the ones that since the Ps1 days enjoyed the Sony Japanese games, games like Legend of Legaia, Wild Arms, Arc the Lad, Parappa The Rapper, Ape Scape, Gravity Rush, Siren, Folklore and many other diverse and unique PlayStation experiences.... And then there are the high budget PlayStation fans that don't give a ahit about it's legacy, the ones that mostly enjoys PlayStation because of games like God of War, Uncharted and The Last of Us...

I like both of these types of games... And for me losing one side it is a huge loss, way bigger than paying 70 usd per game.

Hahahahah, wtf. "If" your theory is the truth, why don´t Sony release positive information to be embraced by gamers around the world? Company after company fuck up all the time. Go back to 2013, Microsoft completely rammed a 10 foot pole up their own ass, it was by their own doing and now they have to perform their best to get some trust back from gamers. Sony have made decisions now that resonates badly with a lot of people, some PlayStation fans and some gloating Xbox fans. That's it.

Sony just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase PS5, nor will they purchase any of Sony’s first-party games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Sony has alienated an entire market with this move.

Sony, publicly apologize and fire Jim Ryan or you can kiss your business goodbye.

Because reducing the price would trash the already fragile businesses of their retail partners, and could potentially open them up to legal action.

As long as physical sales exist, digital prices are going to be in-line or more expensive.

I wish there was a way to auto-ignore any thread that has the words "Sony" or "Gamepass" in the title.

Do you poor sods really have nothing better to do with your time?

I was a PS4 gamer last gen but switched to XSX this gen cus of gamepass. When I said that on this forum last November Sony fans were telling me I was a fake account and that all this talk of people switching isn't 'organic'.

Still seems like people are using that same argument.
Astroturfing isn’t always making something up completely from scratch, nor is FUD. It can be taking a perfectly legitimate perspective, and adding a ton of artificial momentum behind it.

Yeah well maybe it's timing? I don't care to look for it, but i've been posting my concerns with Hermen and Ryan since Shuhei was sidelined, the writing was on the wall, it is not some unforeseen twist of events. It's only the logical direction that has been hinted since more the a year already.
And I’m not calling you a bot or a fake user. I’m saying this little momentum however, is very likely artificial considering there is no tangible proof to this opinion being popular anywhere outside of small Internet forums. If people were feeling burnt by Sony they wouldn’t have just had the best console launch in history.

Anyway, shuhei has a job that fits his personality to a tee and it’s odd to call him sidelined. His spends his days working and meeting with small, ambitious developers and making connections early on. I fail to see why you believe that’s not something he enjoys or wanted.

Ryan, while in charge, had more first parties ready day one than the ps4 did, has more exclusives coming in the near future of launch, is giving us some of the best ps+ months in history, had the 20 game instant collection, had a packed in game that is better than most Xbox first parties, has a psvr follow up in active development, and has 3 sequels to some of the best selling and the highest critically acclaimed games in Sony’s library all announced and all realistically releasing within a year and a half. If that is PlayStations future under Ryan I’m all in. The idea that a division head not just winning, but smashing their competitor that is blowing literal billions, is incompetent or has a poor vision for his company is laughable.

Here’s the thing. You’re insane. Like legit unwell. You assume that anything that goes against your narrow and biased worldview (no same in having this, we’re all biased) must be evil. There’s no way anyone could legitimately disagree with you. They must be either stupid, or know they are wrong so are intentionally lying to be disagreeing with you. MS isn’t dumb so they must be evil then.

The problem is, that’s not how the world works, everyone isn’t plotting against you. But you might be. Take a step back and see that you aren’t always right and others can hold opposing viewpoints legitimately, in good faith, and sometimes they might even be right and you wrong.

It’s okay for people to disagree with you bud. You aren’t God.

If you remove sony from neogaf there might not be a forum left...maybe.
