I like the cut of your jib

I feel like Poets of the Fall more than deserve a spot on that list. They contributed two original songs and one single to the Alan Wake soundtrack and those songs were key parts of that game.

Also, fuck you Spike for ignoring Alan Wake in GOTY. Fuckin' poseurs.

Awards get better and better every year. I remember when they used to not even have a original soundtrack award. Thing that stands out (as it does every year) is the voice acting category and the insane amount of nominations there are. Why? Because they want to get as many celebrities to the venue as possible.

I do not avoid women, GAF, but I do deny them my essence.
After watching last year, I can say with no hesitation that I have absolutely no interest in watching another one of these this decade. Maybe that'll give the production time to grow up. Christ.

I think Blazblue and its fans have earned the right to see a nomination and be rightfully cheated out seeing it win any kind of award.

Platinum Trophy: Learned to Shit While Upright Again.
Why is everyone acting so shocked?

You would think after 5+ years of these awards the nominees, then the winners, we know that this truly isn't a VGA

These are money-hatted PR for franchises that have the backing ($$$$$)

Every year we see the list, every year it's the same old shit

I just watch to see the new upcoming titles, and just meh @ the awards

Until you have an unbiased governing body, that picks the nominees, and isn't sponsored by corporate sponsorship, this ship is going to have the same stagnant feel to it

GAF should just relax, nothing is going to change, either watch or don't

I don't have a Wii, I haven't played SMG2, but I have watched a shit-ton of videos of said game and yes it sucks it's not in the running for GOTY

When GAF does their annual GOTY list for 2010, those are the real VGA's, you know what we should really create our own GAF's VGA's

Yay! I sure hope the Jersey Shore cast is on again. I mean they are exactly what I think of when I'm playing games. Oh and Stevie Wonder. Can't get enough of that hardcore motherfucker.

Who even still cares about this shit awkward show anyway? Last years was horrific and every year they miss a ton of games. Shows like this portray gaming in a light where everybody is super chill and fierce.

Who was it last year that came out saying he hated CGI trailers with no gameplay only to present a CGI trailer with no actual gameplay?

Yes I'm watching it.

It's Mass Effect 3.

EAware.

And since it will be revealed in this shitty show, they'll probably choose (SURPRISE!) Mass Effect 2 as GOTY.

Who was it?

VGA are obviously a joke, awarding only big name dudebro titles rather than being actual critic's choices. Last year Dominic Armato should have won best VA and wasn't even nominated, instead crappy Jack Black received the award, because he's a celebrity. The list could go on and on.

Mario Galaxy not in GOTY, nor in best musical score?
No Minecraft in best indie game?
No Skyward Sword in most anticipated?
Every single Bond nomination is for the critically hated Bloodstone and not the critically loved Goldeneye?
No "Class Updates" for TF2 in the DLC section?

What is this nonsense

Reach had the huge reveal/VGA build up last year, but ODST didn't win anything but best Soundtrack (absolutely deserved, amazing).
Isn't it user voted too?
And what if Mass Effect 2 is deserving? Will it be TEH $ELLOUTS!!!

Well, Mass Effect 2 IS the best game this year, so why not? :)

Mass Effect 2 deserves to win ALL AWARDS. I feel bad for Red Dead Redemption; ME2 is like Forrest Gump, and RDR is like Pulp Fiction--both deserving, only one winner.

I have a feeling Red Dead and Black Ops will sweep the show, which I have no problem with; both were excellent games.

I am, however, staying tuned in to GAF during the awards anyway to watch the obligatory "Yeah these awards are bullshit anyway" reactions when ME2 doesn't win GotY :lol

I can't believe I'm actually defending this B-list award show, but here's a list of the previous GotY winners:

2003 - Madden 2004
2004 - GTA: San Andreas
2005 - Resident Evil 4
2006 - The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
2007 - Bioshock
2008 - Grand Theft Auto IV
2009 - Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

Yeah man, just look at all those Dudebro shooters that won the Game of the Year. Absolutely none of those games were critical darlings :lol

Donkey Kong isn't even out yet and it's nominated for best Wii game? Okay, that pretty much fucks the nominations up from the get go.

And CodBlops getting a GOTY nomination whilst Bad Company 2 and Galaxy 2 didn't is a disgrace.

Personally I'd vote for either Reach or ME2 for GOTY.

Seriously, if John Cleese as Jasper (Fable III/Microsoft) fails to win it, I will murder some stuff.

Their game was probably bugged out and he didn't talk through a good portion of it. :lol

So aren't the awards that contain games that got GOTY nominations kind of a done deal? I mean if God of War 3 is a potential GOTY (laughable as that is) isn't it automatically going to beat the other non-nominated PS3 games?

There's a best DLC award?

Kill me now.

Whats wrong with having a best DLC award? A lot of DLC is good quality stuff that expands the life of the game and lets fans enjoy more content sooner rather than wait for a full blown sequel.

Let's not tarnish all DLC with the same brush.

BioShock 2: Minerva's Den (2K Games/BioWare)
Borderlands: The Secret Armory of General Knoxx (2K Games/Gearbox Software)
Mass Effect 2: Lair of the Shadow Broker (Electronic Arts/BioWare)
Red Dead Redemption - Undead Nightmare (Rockstar Games/Rockstar San Diego)

All of those expand their respective games quite a bit and contain a fair amount of content. I really dont see the problem.

Oh, come ON, Spike. I know this award show is purposely bad, but no amount of Mountain Dew plugging can distract from 9 slots out of 100 or so.
The best part is how 8 of those 9 are relegated to 2 categories (Best Wii, best handheld) out of the 25 available. :lol

Has GAF ever done their own game soundtrack of the year poll? I actually like all of the soundtracks that were nominated (listen to Far Away from Red Dead Redemption, if you haven't yet), but it's clear that they missed out on a lot of others (Super Mario Galaxy 2, VVVVVV, Nier, Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, Sonic Colors, Final Fantasy XIII, etc.). It would be interesting to see what soundtracks everyone here was into.

Aokage

Pretty nice guy (apart from the blue shadows thing...)
I'm sorry. Uh.

Bayonetta isn't nominated for "Best Action Adventure Game"? What the FUCK?

XBOX - RECORD ME LOVING DOWN MY WOMAN GOOD
Since Red Dead is my game of the year and I'd pick it for most categories it shows up in.

My personal top 5 are hard to pin down, though. There are a few more I need to play to be accurate, but it's not that it's hard to narrow it down, it's hard for me to find 5 really exceptional games.

1. Red Dead Redemption
2. Metro 2033
3. Dead Rising 2 (maybe? I'm only just playing it but liking it again)
4. ???
5. ???

I didn't play ME2 or SMG2, but if I picked games in terms of hours played, Just Cause 2 and Darksiders would be up there. I don't think they're 5 of the best games released this year, but I'm having trouble really deciding.

Hope Far Away wins best song in a game but doubt it has a chance.

The Best Score category is a complete joke. If I had one game I could slot in there it would be either Nier or Castlevania: LoS
