I'm assuming that will be explained away in the sequel.

That the public will no longer know he's Iron Man?

I'm pretty sure not, due to the scene after the credits. It's not like he will be swarmed by a different ammount of paparazzi in the scenes where he's out in public; they'll just have different questions for him.

SHIELD will cover it up, or they'll introduce his alcoholic side for the sequel which will help to discredit him. I honestly don't believe they're going to run with the public identity.

I agree. It's an on again, off again sort of thing in the comics anyway.

I guess I'm in the minority but I rarely ever notice product placement for what it is. When Stark wanted the burger, I thought he just wanted a whopper. I didn't think OMG WTF BK is ruining my f*cking movie! No....I thought, he wants a whopper and that was the end of it...

I dunno, I think some people just look for stuff to b*tch about and ruin things for themselves.
I just go "boo" at the screen when its retardedly blatant and then forget about it.

Well for a long time Iron Man was officially Tony Stark's bodyguard, but they make fun of it in the movie and just go with Tony Stark outing himself at the first occasion.

Living Laser for Iron Man 2 +1!!!

Ah I see. The problem with all these superhero movies is I keep going to see them with friends and it makes me want to read the comics, but they're so far ahead I don't want to spend all that time catching up. I hope they stick with the not-secret identiy. I really, really, really am tired of secret identities and I think it'd be better if it didn't turn into "the press just says it's Stark being Stark".

I don't mind it too much either, but that Burger King thing seemed a bit too blatant. Oh well, product placement always makes me laugh. Pizza Hut + Code Geass :lol

I honestly can't comprehend how some of you enjoy any kinds of art. The film is derivative because it is based off of a comic book. If you're looking for challenging or unconventional narratives I can recommend you an author or two. You're simply not going to find a deep, engaging plot in super hero movies. I don't really understand how the direction is poor. At least I could tell what was going on in this film, unlike some of the other summer blockbusters like Transformers. The characters are one dimensional? It's like I said, they're comic book characters. The reason why people are masturbating over Downey is because he IS Tony Stark. That is picture perfect casting and I think he carried the film.

So basically I should ignore any faults I find the the film because its based on a pulpy, inferior medium (calm down, comic GAF, Im not calling your beloved medium crap, but simply inferring thats how the quoted poster feels)? Although I dont love it like 99% of GAF does, you need look no further than your sacred cow, BB, to know that isnt true.

If thats the case, then I guess no one has any grounds to call Catwoman, Elektra, or Blade Trinity shitty movies. Who cares if they are terribly written, casted, directed, acted, edited, shot? They are based on comics so what do you expect, amirite?

You complained about the plot being derivative but every comic book movie that has been released thus far has been derivative.

I'd heard good things about this but didn't realize its Rotten Tomatoes average was so high. That kind of pushed me over the edge, and I saw it today. I'm glad I went; I really enjoyed it. I'm not familiar with the Iron Man comics, and thus not familiar with the Iron Man/Tony Stark character, so I missed out on the references. In a way that's a plus, though, as this is all new to me. RDJ's performance was excellent; he's very believable in the role. Paltrow played her part as his assistant well.

Random brief thoughts:

-The first time RDJ puts on and uses the Iron Man prototype is awesome. Just imagining a suit of that power...
-All the technology-related bits were really cool.
-The difference between assistant Paltrow and casual Paltrow is amazing.

I'd put this up there with Spidey. My only problem is with the ending; the last 20 minutes or so (including the showdown) just aren't very compelling. I found it unbelievable that
Obadiah could utilize the suit perfectly his first time, especially considering how long it took Tony to get used to his. Also that Obadiah's suit was as advanced as it was using older blueprints and less intelligent scientists.

Just saw it with a friend today. Seriously awesome. I only know Iron Man from Civil War, and I didn't even know about the thing in Stark's chest. I like how the romance wasn't really there at all. It just felt natural. And
"I am Iron Man,"
what a way to end the movie.

I'm pretty sure that out of all the comic book superheroes with movies so far, I'd want to be Tony Stark. Dude is a genius, who also happens to be an asshole and alcoholic, and treats women like objects. And his suit is totally fucking badass.

I mean, Batman is awesome, but even he had to watch his parents get murdered in front of him.

Yeah, Bruce Wayne is totally awesome, but if you were him it wouldent be that much fun. Average day of Tony Stark is boning a super model, drinking yourself silly, then taking your awesome flying armor suit to stir up some shit.

Saw the movie yesterday afternoon with my wife. While the theater wasn't great (we're going to drive out of our way to see the movie on a DLP screen from now on), the movie was. Best superhero movie I've ever seen. The liberties taken with the character's origin compared to the comic were not only sensible, but incredibly well done. For example, the addition of the arc reactor to the origin and how it worked with the suit was a great addition to the origin and character, and led to some great scenes in the film. Everyone who worked on the film should be proud of the job they did translating Iron Man to the big screen and bring Tony Stark and his supporting cast to life.

Now when is the Blu-Ray coming out?

Oddly enough I was at moviestop yesterday and the person at the counter was telling a customer that they are already taking preorders.
Didn't check the date though, didn't really click until I left.

I'm glad RDJ was on this project, not just because of the great job he did as an actor but also because of all the time he put into developing the script. Apparently he also demanded the screenplay to be rewritten again and again until it was just right.

Seriously, everything was fantastic, plot development was splendid..just that
last fight scene with the stupid car mom, random reactor finish
was just so stupid and retarded its pukeable. i mean cmon. they have got to make up a better scene than that.

yeah, the ending definitely was the weakest part of the movie. i was enjoying myself so I just ignored those voices in my head and went along for the ride. If the movie had started out shaky I'd have had a harder time ignoring them.

i did really like how they
first showed the scene with stark in the vehicle which gets blown up, THEN they show how he got into the situation.
really grabbed my attention

It isn't
He doesn't utilize it perfectly..... and the only part Tony had to learn how to do really was flying.... Obediah's flight wasn't 1/10th as good as Tony's he pretty much flew straight up and then down without the maneuverability of Tony's. As for being more advanced, the Power source is arguably the most advanced part of the suit and they had to steal Tony's power supply.... and even then the suite wasn't really more advanced then Obediah's you have to factor in that Tony was @ something like 20% power when he finally showed up to the fight and falling fast. The only thing Obediah's suite might beat Tony's in is pure strength.... and that would be more due to the size/bulkiness of his suite more the technology.... heck Tony with a pretty much un-powered suite managed to cripple Obediah's targeting systems.

I didnt second guess it. In the comic when they first fought, the Iron Monger was partially controlled by an outside source. Stark blew up that source and then proceeded to beat the shit out of Stane who could no longer control his suit.

Batman Begins is not the best superhero movie ever.
Superman I/II is

My favorite part is where he tries the flight boots for the first time. I can't believe he didn't break anything. :lol

Truly a fun movie.

If it has been posted already can somone tell me which page, otherwise what happened after the credits? I had to catch a later session and was already running late so i had to jet as soon as it finnished.... Awesome movie though!!!!:D

My friend dragged me to see Made of Honor, which was pretty awful, but afterwards we snuck in to a showing of Iron Man. I liked it ok enough but the pacing was fucking awful. Ten minutes after he
gets his armor and we're already at the climax? Right.
Everything else was fabulous though. Robert Downy Jr. and Gwyneth Paltrow played their roles extremely well, as did Jeff Bridges. Actually Downy pretty much stole the role as he played Stark pretty much perfectly. The CG was also fantastic. Overall I had I fun time but the horrible pacing took down a potentially awesome movie and turned it merely into a good one.

nah, but the climax will have her swallow a load, then saying "thats salty". Pepper sprayed would also work.

Writing porno scripts must be the best job out there.

I would watch it. Hell, I would buy it on bluray if there was also an orgy scene where War Machine goes to war on Pepper's pot.

I think I might have seen an easter egg during this movie the second time I saw it, but I can't be sure. Maybe I'm just rationalizing this but I'm hoping someone can confirm this:

When Pepper looks through the invoices on the ghost drive, I swear to god that the billing names reads BIG LEBOWSKI but it's only on the screen for a couple frames.

Oh and my friend also thinks that this is one:

When Obadiah is in his suit, the voice sounds like Master Control from Tron. I can't confirm this.

Not to mention him sitting in his glass windowed living room trying on his Iron Man suit. The paparazzi must be lazy in Marvel World

Didn't that glass windowed living room overlook the ocean? also - private property - all trespassing paparazzi will be repulsor rayed.

Amazing movie!

I only liked Pepper Pots sometimes..sometimes she was an absolute idiot.

"oh wow is that something that picks the lock?"

She did not just ask that..

Great movie though and the suit looked so bad ass..

Loved the film. Best superhero film I've seen in a long long time, and possibly ever. Everything about it was well put together; casting, acting (largely), plot (simple but fun; pure comicbook), pace, etc.

More like Iron Donger, amirite?

I'm a bit conflicted about whether or not this is my favorite super-hero movie. I mean, it completely had me, 100% through the runtime. The funny parts had me cracking up, and the fan service was top-notch. I don't know if it had the depth of say Spider-Man 2 or Batman Begins, but at the end of the day, I think I just had more fun with Iron Man.

I still think The Dark Knight is going to bend it over a log and take away its manhood, though.

What I don't understand is
when he goes out and take out the terrorists and the weapons and the US military notices it, why do they decide to shoot it down?.
