I think people don't understand what make a roguelite great.

Graphic is like the last important thing, number of contents is the most important thing, without that you get bored fast of the repetion, and repetition is the core of roguelites.

Does returnal has like 4x times the contents of roguelites with a 20 euros price tag?!

Remember that creating and animating 3d stuff with detailed graphic is far more complicated than doing the same with games with lower graphic fidelity.

Does anyone here really think that this game is gonna have more enemies or weapons or locations or objects than stuff like binding of isaac, gungeon, dead cells, risk of rain or the other top tier roguelite?!

I mean it could have more, but the chance are very small imo.

So why paying 80 euros for something probably smaller ?! Because it has nicer graphics?! People don't really buy roguelite for the graphics...


I'm not hating on the game, i'm just explaining why some people think that 80 euros are a bit much for this game.
I love roguelite and i have no problem spending a lot of money on videogames, i already bought morales, demons and preordered ratchet at full price on ps5, but i'm not sure if this game is worth 80 euros because onestly, even the graphic and production values doesn't exactly scream nextgen, like at all...

Gimme the assurance that returnal has 4x times the contents of the best roguelite in the market, or even 2x times and i'm gonna preorder the game tomorrow first thing in the morning.

The devs say it has "Roguelike elements" - these days many full price games have "rogue like" elements so Returnal isn't special in that its a full price game with Roguelike elements.

It's not the gameplay mechanic that makes rogue-likes cheaper to purchase. Its that they're produced by small teams of programmers without an army of artists and other content producers, are often simplistic pixel based environments with low animation fidelity, in short amounts of time. That's why they hit a $19.99 price point, not the gameplay mechanic.

I guess I just disagree. The whole game seems like a roguelike with a continuous, non-linear story. Meaning it's a roguelike and then they drop in some cutscenes or sections where you explore the house for story or whatever they have planned.

I've watched all the trailers and they talk about dying and starting over. The cover of the game has all her helmets from dying and starting over. Seems like a roguelike to me, just with some cutscenes or light story exploration dropped in.

This thread is showing me how much GP is shaking up the market. It’s becoming harder to justify spending 70-80 bucks on a game when you played Gears of War 5 + all the dlc + Hivebusters for free at launch. Or The Medium. And when you know that Stalker 2 is coming day one for free. Or when you have more free Xbox games to play than you external drive can hold. Sony will have to address this new reality or the only games that will sell for them considerably in the future will be God of War and whatever Naughty dog releases.

“Why are there not enough new IP’s? Why so many recycled safe concepts?” “Why are we getting big polished AAA titles only from massive publishers?” .

We will see, maybe it is shit, maybe not. Their track record is good and this is the first big AAA level game they make and they are taking a massive risk to do it and for me the potential reward needs to match the risk they are taking (it is not like they are pricing each copy at $1,000 either).

Again, not a super model... I'd settle for her looking like an average woman. She clearly has the body of an adolescent boy, no hips or anything whatsoever, to the point where it's evident that the guiding goal for her design wasn't "realistic woman" but "as androgynous as possible."

Anyhow, the influences are right on the surface. She apparently has different colored eyes, which--along with her bodily hyper-androgyny--harkens unmistakably back to David Bowie's sci-fi characters of the early 70s. Then her facial design follows that and sticks closely to the theme of trying to make her as harsh and vaguely "pop-culture lesbian" as possible (see: Kate McKinnon in Ghostbusters). These are deliberate choices, and we can respond to them. It's not like they just happened to hire an actress with a certain appearance onto a film... she's designed to be the way she is.

I feel like you're looking waaaaay too deep into this. I mean, perhaps you're not, but for the background of the story, i.e. older scientist, I think the look fits. I've worked in research departments in the past at Universities and with MIT people as well, for a number of a years. There is just nothing out of place about this character in this setting.

Err... not really. I'd say Brazilian women are overrated, they are actually very varied in appearances, as I'd imagine it is the case in every country. Brazilian "sensuality" might be a factor that makes people think that about them, though.

I'm a huge Housemarque fan and defended the game on the "MC bets" thread. That said, I'm not a fan of the protagonist choice there.

TLOU2 Abby is more blocky than PSOne Lara Croft.
Every female character has squared lines in MK11. If you shave their head and it looks like a dude... I don't know man. Cassie is the closest it gets to female.

I'm a male and played as ripped dudes my entire life, if you're so threatened by a good looking woman, then you need to work on your self esteem. This wave won't change the beauty standards and it will backfire soon (I would say it already is).

There is the "let's ruin gaming for the cisgender male" theory as well, but that's another can of worms entirely.
