i disabled ublock, thats all I can do for now. i feel bad for being selfish but i always disable ublock when a site requests it politely. i never remember neogaf reminding me of using ublock. maybe a soft, polite request to disable ublock / ad block for the sustainability of the website can help some other people to do the same

What about Gold members getting animated avatars. Unless that clogs up the server bandwidth… I remember the animated avatars and then it disappeared.

Or simply block the site completely for adblock users. The german site BILD did it and it forced me to switch to a browser without adblock.

I've seen such solution implemented on a gaming forum ~15 years ago exactly to avoid console warring, a year later they've been asking for financial help and another year later the forum got shut down, it just got too fragmented, too complicated/time consuming to browse through all those platform-specific subforuns, discussions started to drop significantly, so people started to move onto other places leading to the forum's death.

But on a serious note, I'm not sure why you've never used the brand recognition and the community behind it to branch out. You have a serious head start to to hit the ground running. Sometimes you need to spend to benefit, time & money.

Some other ideas : if you have to - pay/reward members for quality IOTI, & Review summary threads. Then maybe use those as a script /data for regular youtube content hosted by a charismatic presenter with good production values - slap Neogaf all over it. Show everyone GAF is back, re-invented. Hopefully Grow.

When was that? Visiting the site since a few months and never got that message. Since i registered i'm only using Edge to be fair and the ads here are really modestly.

But i got a new idea copied from another german site:
- Special topics in which only gold members can answer

I think a GAF podcast is a good idea. But it shouldn’t be limited to YouTube. All someone on Twitter has to do is accuse someone with a YouTube channel of being “alt-right” or a “Nazi” and YouTube will permanently demonetize the channel.

Create youtube / podcast. Serve two purposes, perfect.

Also no one gives as shit about being called right wing on youtube. Some of the most controversial anti woke sites have Mass followings, everyone is tired of woke garbage - it's not the real world.

No, I'm speaking from experience with having a channel demonitized. I'm saying it shouldn't be limited to YouTube. There are other options out there that can be monetized and it doesn't take much more effort to upload it to more than one place.

Fair enough. Many monetize by also being sponsored and embedding the sponsorship into the vid. Gives it another ad channel on top.

Somehow, i still can't see ads on neo gaf after adjusting my Adblock but now every other god damn site i visit is now full of ads.
