News Hardware [Hardware Busters] The New PS5 is Actually Better

You want them

- to open both PS5s
- to remove the liquid metal
- to delid the heatspreader (without affecting it, destroying it, tempering i)
- to clean the apu-dies
- to add not 1 but 2 sensors on each chip

And after that,
- re-add the heatspreader
- add liquid metal
- and PRAY to god, that due both cables (from the sensor) there´s no leakage

It´s a console, jeezus. Strange that only the PS5 needs to undergo this rigorous testing. When the XSX console was tested by that bald testicle and others, it did not matter.

Why not? They have already basically ruined these systems in one way or another by testing them anyway, might as well go full-tilt and get a deep probing analysis going on. I'm really saying, just make the unit a sacrifice by that point. Give it a really good, deep test, don't worry about if it works after the test is done.

You can always just get another system.

And I'd love for someone to do the same with a Series X tbh.

You literally said you were certain some people in this thread doxxed this YouTuber. You were certain of this because they were getting emotional and name-calling.

Where is your actual proof for that wild claim?

Weird that you weren't vocal at all when @dark10x got doxxed by Xbox fans.

It's sad to see you resorting to such childish accusations. Low level trolling.
It's funny, i remember reading that exact quote you posted from DarkMage619 DarkMage619

Many people are reading into Austin's opinion like he is part of some sort of conspiracy. I'm certain some of those people were the very one's doxxing him

going through his posts i can't find it anymore, was it deleted or edited out?

Sony has to be saving a ton on the new cooler. Maybe they'll pass those savings to us gamers.
one can only hope, i mean if they are now at least breaking even or making a few pennies here, there might be a chance of a sale at Xmas.

Saying that, the demand is so high, it probably won't go down in price for many years.

OP updated (igor enters the chat)
- RAM topside on new PS5 from Aris 78.13 °C at 28 degrees room temperature.
- RAM topside on old PS5 from GN 93 °C at 22 room temperature

One thing I want to clarify.
That "Old" model is actually the SECOND model (first revision)? No the original model?

Some much for the heatsink having less heat pipes.

Same amount of heat pipes (6) as the original, which implies the heatsink has about the same cooling properties, it's just redesigned.

I think that maybe the piece directly above the SOC being smaller results in a faster transfer of heat to the next piece of metal?

a) it did not matter to you and friends, when that bald testicle "tested" his gifted XSX
b) you are tempering with the factory set cooling, consoles are not desktop PC
c) About GN
They tore off the cured compound and then said it was not a cured compound, which anyone else who did a teardown knows to be false, and the sony lead engineer is contradicting them in an interview.

My position is that it invalidates his results. The problem is that a cured compound sticks hard to both sides and so it's designed to work without any pressure applied.

If it's torn off and replaced loose (the PS5 assembly offers no reliable pressure on these points), it's an inferior contact and it's not simple to know how it would affect the results.

According to them, yes it´s already the 3rd revision. But between 1st and 2nd, they only differ in fan supplier?

He is not making it, I remember it and lot's of peple replied to him about this baseless accusation.I would honestly be very cautious about his honesty.
I mean isn't he the "I am not an Xbox fanboy I am a gaming fanboy", the one that has been attacking playstation non stop while praising Xbox...That seems like an honest guy.

Well, something is def up here, i 100% saw that post, hence why i made that dox remark.

I can't find the post anymore, if it was not edited perhaps a mod removed it, perhaps a mod can have a look for us to clear this all up

Are you accusing people on GAF being conspiracy theorists? That's the only way it would make sense.

There are plenty of ways Sony could give their customers some savings. I think they should drop the $10 upgrade fee for cross generational titles.

You've been running with this same shit since the day Austin's reply video came out. I won't be at all surprised if you were the one doing it yourself. Get a fucking grip man. Jesus Christ.

Contact Mod of War Mod of War or Faust Faust im pretty sure that's against the TOS here. You really shouldn't worry if you never said it. But if you need it's better to just be honest about it because others are claiming that you said it.
check my link above, it's fucking crystal clear, he said it. Either a mod removed it or it was edited but you can see the post yourself, Hawking replied to it.

Disgusting, he is trying to gaslight other people in this thread by making them out to be liars.

Fucking shame on you dude.

Nope. Weird seeing how many users remember it..

You saying you didn't write that then?
Well there's an easy solution let a mod check the unedited posts to see who is wrong.
If I had a bad memory as well as you and sircaw sircaw we all take a ban.If not he does.
Tell me all if you agree.

Edit: If a mod corrects me and show me I am wrong ,of course, right before the ban, I would apologize to DarkMage619 DarkMage619

1DB increase in fan noise compared to 10c lower "cpu" temp is a great tradeoff.

Also, there is no way that's the sole reason for such a substantial drop in temperature, they are either messing around with voltage, clock speeds, or most likely both.

Not just the fan, it's the board also, there are now three different boards/PCB, that's why I asked.
Maybe the hot memory is a particular problem only on the model that GamerNexus tested last year.

Doxxing is against the TOS with immediate perms handed out.

Some of you are way too invested in these topics and need to pull away from these discussions for a while.

Something is not right here for sure, considering the revision has what looks like a much inferior cooling solution. Air cooling 101: smaller in size and 300 g lighter = worse cooling.

DarkMage619 DarkMage619 had written he was certain people here were doxxing this YouTuber.

Surely a claim like that without any proof, antagonising users, is against the TOS too.

This reminded me of GHG's post in the other thread. There's a lot more to a cooler design than mass and weight like he said.
Most ridiculous statement in this thread, well done. Consider the laws of physics broken then:

Spoiler: the biggest and heaviest CPU cooler didn't win.

There's a lot more to cooler design than mass and weight.

It's a shame that with all the facts and information available on the Internet people decide to adopt the simpleton attitide wherein bigger = better. There are plenty of scenarios where bigger ≠ better but in a lot of cases it requires critical thinking to understand why and how. No wonder the youtuber in question here has such a large following. We really are in trouble.

I have to be honest that the updated test result is pleasantly surprising. 10c difference on the back plate is very "iffy", but I can go with the new updated result of 2-3c difference, if it's measured same spot as GN did like the new updated info says - under the mounting plate.

Less and cheaper material, better thermal performance. I remember OG heat sink, they were touting that they optimized it so that it matches vapor chamber. (Clearly targeting the Xbox, I guess)
For the look of it, I expected that it won't be as good as the OG one, but I guess you can't really judge the cooler by its size anymore that Sony has figured something out. Now I feel like why couldn't they do that to my original PS5. It's not like the APU or other chip compoments are different.

It's a big win for Sony engineers that they managed it. Of course, I'm more interested in what GN comes up with his test, whether this is indeed true, and especially how they managed to lower the temp with lesser, cheaper material - not only the APU but also the VRAM as well with same fan pushing same amount of air. Air flow may be in fact a play here, but it doesn't really explain the VRAM part much - if they indeed kept the backplate as steel, not copper or aluminum which have better heat transfer than steel. Better thermal putty, or combinations of all above?

Of course it is against TOS and I don't think (and I hope too) that nobody here participated in the doxxing of Austin because that is shitty and I hope everyone here agrees.
But we are talking about assuming the words that have been said.Because that was an accusation and no matter the side that is a shitty attitude. To say that some here no matter for what console they root for have participated in doxxing of anybody without proof (of course if you can prove it that would be different).
And I know you guys will do the right thing to either prove that I and some misremembered and/or are bullshitting or if DarkMage619 DarkMage619 is.
But I do think you will find plenty of people that remember that quote.
I do not feel aimed because I don't think I am a playstation fanboy they did some shitty moves just like anyone in this industry but maybe accusing some people of comitting an offense based on nothing may not be the right kind of attitude in this forum.
Once again if I misremembered I would understand apologize and agree to get banned be it a permanent one or a temporary one.Because in that case I would be the one accusing someone without proof.

2690 subs. gtfo here

anddddd:

I trust a lot more a guy that seems to be technical but low subs vs a semi technical tech youtuber that clickbaits peoples into subing into the millions. 95% of "tech youtubers" aren't even technically able to understand the engineering behind what the review/see, they're most often than not, PR puppets that regurgitate a company's marketing bullet points.

PS5’s power control is not based in temperature or heat.
It will perform the same.

Are you sure about that? RDNA boost clocks are kind of dependent on thermals and will adjust on the fly in duration depending on load AND thermals.

I believe what we're seeing in power difference is the equivalent of longer/steady boost clocks due to lower thermals. Same thing happens on RDNA 2 where undervolting it results in lower thermals and results in better performances with longer boost clocks. I can't imagine Sony playing with AMD's boost clock logic on that fine detail, especially since Cerny basically embraced boost clocks.

Thank you.
And there it is, i will move on now, DarkMage619 DarkMage619 i will accept your apology when you send it in a private message.

Thank you very much for your transparency and efficiency. To me that case is closed now.Now back on topic Which one is hotter the white version or the one with changed plates in black?
To me the black coated ones looks better.

Edit: That does bring me one question though, does changing the plates for a different shape or material can affect the cooling of the console?

Edit n°2: Reading Mod of War Mod of War response again my apologizes to DarkMage619 DarkMage619 I thought you edited it yourself, I hadn't thought that a mod could have done it.So once again I apologize only for saying that you edited your post.

Yep as it should be. I think people are getting a little crazy trying to point out the doxxers here. And your definitely right about some being way to invested in then discussion.

I'm definitely going to try and stay away from it because it's always the same and frankly it's something that nobody can really control.

Thanks for your input.

Bit weird to me that someone who needed their post to be amended by mods because of its contents..

Then doubled down and called out people for being liars and demanding they provide proof that they ever made that claim. When they knew full well they did.

Just a weird situation to be in.

Grateful for the mod intervention, and providing transparency with this.

Yes, they've adopted a different strategy where the clocks aren't variable based on the temps.
Whether we're talking about mobile phones, tablets, or even PC CPUs and GPUs, boost clocks have historically led to variable performance from one example to the next - something that just can't happen on a console. Your PS5 can't run slower or faster than your neighbour's. The developmental challenges alone would be onerous to say the least.

"We don't use the actual temperature of the die, as that would cause two types of variance between PS5s," explains Mark Cerny. "One is variance caused by differences in ambient temperature; the console could be in a hotter or cooler location in the room. The other is variance caused by the individual custom chip in the console, some chips run hotter and some chips run cooler. So instead of using the temperature of the die, we use an algorithm in which the frequency depends on CPU and GPU activity information. That keeps behaviour between PS5s consistent."

Inside the processor is a power control unit
, constantly measuring the activity of the CPU, the GPU and the memory interface, assessing the nature of the tasks they are undertaking. Rather than judging power draw based on the nature of your specific PS5 processor, a more general 'model SoC' is used instead. Think of it as a simulation of how the processor is likely to behave, and that same simulation is used at the heart of the power monitor within every PlayStation 5, ensuring consistency in every unit.

"The behaviour of all PS5s is the same," says Cerny. "If you play the same game and go to the same location in the game, it doesn't matter which custom chip you have and what its transistors are like. It doesn't matter if you put it in your stereo cabinet or your refrigerator, your PS5 will get the same frequencies for CPU and GPU as any other PS5."
Sorry for the long post. There's a lot more In this DF article.

I wasn't comfortable with where the discussion was heading. Mods here are pretty transparent which is why I called them in to stop the discussion before it got ugly. I didn't think it was positive for this thread when we should be talking about the topic.
