Charalanazard: Starfield Direct: Did They Lie?

In the video, they literally show you how you travel, after saying that. People decided to extrapolate more out of it, for no reason.

I just assumed what they showed is how you'd do it. Because that's what they showed.

People really brought a lot of expectations into this game without actually paying attention to what was being said and shown.
When what is said and shown is vastly different is there any doubt as to why so many came in with certain expectations.
Also I didnt clarify in my post, I meant to specify the exploration that they promised. They specifically said you can explore each planet freely, lying about the fact the planets are not persistent and are in fact instanced so each tiny zone is different each time.
While everybody knew that procedural generation was what they were using, freely explore every planet etc clearly was misleading, and every time they were asked if you could explore WHOLE planets etc they said yes, which is a blatant lie.
But this is Bethesda, they have mislead and overpromised on every game since Oblivion.

Y'all she has CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome) and insomnia. Shit sucks, my old high school girlfriend had it for years and it's on/off while being very debilitating.

My wife has this and a mild form of Ehlers Danlos syndrome. When its bad it's really awful, wouldnt wish it on anyone.

If I had CFS I'd probably go full carnivore. So many folks nowadays have all these food allergies and the sheer amount of chemical garbage that gets put in our food can't be good for any of that. I've heard enough anecdotes of people curing all kinds of diseases with the meat diet to get me paranoid about the stuff we eat. Anyways, going to drink some milk now.

Perhaps, the chick I mentioned above with CFS was 16 in high school (I was also 16 way back then and in high school) but she was newr vegan/vegie and had iron issues. CFS is a rough cookie though. I did IT work for a leading Aussie doctor back then and it was only really being diagnosed in the 90s down under.

I do wonder what Starfield would have turned out like if Sony had managed to snatch the exclusivity rights, as was rumoured.

They should add a disclaimer “sequences shortened”, because that’s what they did in this direction. That’s misleading.

They definitely didn’t lie outright, moreso a lie by omission.

Like pointing out that moon is really there and you can travel to it sounds amazing, but they absolutely knew what they were doing by not actually having footage of travelling from that planet to that moon because it just wouldn’t look as impressive as what people had in their heads.

Bethesda being so careful about pre-release footage and what could be previewed was definitely calculated to hide what exploration is actually like in game. The hype machine would have taken a massive hit if you had previews being published that showed space travel being a bunch of menu screens while trying to fly to a close looking planet gets you nowhere.
I don't know if people just don't have enough experience with pre-release hype trains, or their attention spans are really that short, OR maybe they're just being wilfully ignorant. But every time you watch some hyped up trailers and game show presentations, you just gotta take it with a boulder-sized grain of salt. Especially if it comes out of one of the big name publishers, and ESPECIALLY if it's from Bethesda.

For example, during the showcase, the minute they showed how the player takes off in a ship and the little cutscene kicked in before they plopped in the outer space, I was immediately like: "oh, okay, so it's not gonna be a smooth, real-time transition like in Elite, they're just doing a loading screen - GOT IT." But then by the sound of some of the negative opinions about this game, it's like half the people somehow misremembered it and thought that everything's gonna happen in real time without any hidden loading screens.

Maybe some folks simply confused the footage from Star Wars Outlaws with Starfield? Because that game doesn't break away from player's POV during planetary takeoff, and both games were shown pretty much around the same time. Honestly it wouldn't surprise me, lol.

It would have turned out the same brother, this is not necessarily a MS/Xbox problem but a Bethesda one.
This is why I don't get the xboys getting their knickers in a twist whenever people mention this game's apparent shortcomings, I mean, what did they/we expect ? It's a game in typical Bethesda fashion, these guys have been resting on their laurels for more than a decade and the now meme "They'll wait for the community to fix things through mods" holds true now more than ever.

Listen, I liked Morrowind back in the day, same with Oblivion and I loved Fallout 3 (250 hours put), and while I acknowledge the cultural impact Skyrim had, personally, I already had my fill with the same old same old and dropped it after 50 hours, not to mention Fallout 4 which I dropped after barely 10 hours in on the PS4, the copy/paste nature of their games, the always behind the times animations, character models and gfx in general, loading screens , Uber mediocre writing , glitches and bugs become too much after a while - or should I say "years" ?

The problem lies in the fact that they haven't evolved at all in almost 10+ years and that they've been riding on the goodwill and hype train created by the years that came before.

This is my personal opinion obviously but I find their titles a complete joke, the lack of QA, the mediocre gfx, the dubious writing, the repetitive gameplay, the horrid visual bugs/glitches etc... everything feels (and is) so absolutely far behind the curve and their contemporaries that's not even funny and frankly, I wonder how they and especially "Peter Molyneux v.2" aka Tod "lying" Howard can keep getting away with it.

There's a difference between liking a game for whatever reason and defending unfinished, glitchy and ugly (IMO) games just 'cause they're part of your favorite Vidya gaem box and your beloved multi trillion company.

To be fair, I loved Skyrim, warts and all. I just don’t think Bethesda were ready for Starfield - it is waaaay too ambitious for their own capabilities. Still, at least there may have been less loading on a PS5 version, and I feel Sony may have supported a little better during development. But we’ll never know.

there's a lot wrong with starfield, but saying they lied about the game is just wrong.

it was known space was segmented, it was known planets were procedurally generated segmented chunks and so on and so forth.

again i come back to the weird marketing/fanboyism that MS uses with the Colt Eastwoods and Jezzy doodoo pants that created an insane narrative for the game prior to launch that i think most average internet dwellers ignored Bethesda altogether and joined in on the circle jerks.

What's funny is that I always liked playing Skyrim because of how cozy it feels but I never actually managed to finish it. I sure started it numerous times but never got very far into the story. It feels more like a nice little retreat that I can go to every once in a while in order to relax, enjoy the views, practice my bow and arrow technique, have some good food and ale at the local tavern, and maybe have a laugh at the locals and their weird quirks too. But I'm totally fine with leaving after a couple of days and never learning if that Balgruuf guy managed to figure out that Stormcloak business...

What is the history of this gif?

Was monika under the table?
Not exactly sure what the origin was/is of the gif. But I believe the longer version is just him adjusting the lower part of his tie (which is still a bit awkward). I once tried to search for the video containing this in full but there are so many videos of and about him on that I decided to do look at porn instead.

Todd and Bethesda don't lie, but they do exaggerate their games.

In terms of Starfield, it wasn't what I expected. I honestly thought with Starfield that I could walk round the whole planet, but clearly that wasn't the case. I don't remember if I got that from here or from Bethesda, so that's probably on me.

So is the game doing gangbusters and thus we should be judging it by the highest standard, so this is fair?

Or is it a disappointment and we should not be kicking a game while it’s down?

This game and the discourse is so beyond the pale, and I don’t even know what that means.
Honestly I don't know how to judge the game. If we think story, world building and characters MATTER in a RPG Starfield is crap.

But if we judge Starfield by the standards of a Bethesda fan (muh loot and shoot much crafting muh collecting spoons/potatoes) it's okay I guess?

You’re not allowed to find a beautiful woman attractive you fucking dog. You’re definitely not allowed to express it.

Please wank over the prescribed beauty standard:

Lying by omission is still lying.

They did nothing to stop the outlandish fanfiction in it's tracks.

No dude, it's you fault for believing their lies! You think that picture of todd had "don't believe his lies is a meme?
