i mean, duh. this is how it works with literally every single BC system ever. it isn't going to play 100% of all games right out of the box. having that expectation is pretty silly, given how BC has worked in every other real world instance. sometimes, the older games work right away. sometimes they don't, the faster framerate breaks physics, etc. so the games need to be patched. they do this on xbox.
i dunno, some people freaking out right now are on this "all or nothing" trip. they won't be happy until it plays every single game released in the past 25 years. that's a pretty silly expectation.
so it's not like the Xbox when the developers had to make it backwards compatible themselves I do remember something like this that's why we getting articles like red dead now backwards compatible
Nothings stopping you from playing them still.
XSX executes native Xbox one code according to Digital Foundry
Devs didn't have to make the 360 games BC at all. The publisher just had to allow MS make the files available.

If there was a Gurren Lagaan PS4 game it would definitely not play day one. You ok with that?....huh!?
jk
But I know most of my library won't work and I'm bummed
That's uninformed bullshit as always from DF.
XSeX uses same APIs, and MSFT prohibited use of low level access in current-gen.
That's why it can claim full BC (in reality it will also be not 100% full, but probably better than Sony)
Sony: Some PS4 games will run on PS5.
Microsoft: Some 1080p XBO games will run at 4K automatically on XSX. And everything else at max res/fps.
This was to be expected. Some fucking great responses here.
All games get tested and the 5% that don't work get patched to work.
DF specifically said it was built into XSX chip, they heard it from XSX team during their visit to MS.
Wait, isn't this how every emulator ever has worked? Wouldn't Sony need to include the PS1, PS2, PS3, and PS4 system chips in each PS5 for near 100% compatibility?
How does that make any sense at all? Jesus. People loosing their minds today.
You would have to either destroy the capabilities of the PS5 to make the console affordable or charge $700 to squeeze in the SOCs of 4 systems. I fully expect that Sony will be testing BC rapidly and rolling titles out at a pace that is at least in line with what Microsoft did with the Xbox One.
I am still hoping that Sony include the PS1, PS2, and PS3 emulators that the have kept hidden in previous systems.
It is not true. GPU architecture in current-get and next gen is different.
Sony have 36 CUs only because of hardware-level backwards compat.
MSFT BC is software only. There is no other way.
Will the Series X be BC with all PS consoles? Lol.This is a deal breaker for me.
I was going PS5 because everyone was saying it was BC with all PS consoles.
Fuck that. I'm on team Series X now.
Flexing how theyre a software company right there lolSony: Some PS4 games will run on PS5.
Microsoft: Some 1080p XBO games will run at 4K automatically on XSX. And everything else at max res/fps.
could care less means you do care.Could care less about backwards compatibility.
Will the Series X be BC with all PS consoles? Lol.
There is a difference between hardware BC and software BC. Remember the original PS3 had hardware BC of PS2. It looks like XSX is a hardware based BC of Xbox one, according to what DF heard during their visit to MS. PS5 is a software based BC of PS4. This could make big difference on compatibility and enhancement.
You arent paying attention. Xbxsx has hardware bc that is 100% compatible with Xbox one. The only time its now 100% is when the architecture is totally different like on the 360i mean, duh. this is how it works with literally every single BC system ever. it isn't going to play 100% of all games right out of the box. having that expectation is pretty silly, given how BC has worked in every other real world instance. sometimes, the older games work right away. sometimes they don't, the faster framerate breaks physics, etc. so the games need to be patched. they do this on xbox.

The Series X is compaitble with lots of older gen games I liked.
The PS5 plays none........
You guys can keep trying to spin this all you want. It's a huge blow.

Worse thing about this, is they likely going to run like on PS4, no nothing extra like on X or S with Vsync...
Well sorry if I did not hear it, because there was a lot of words about pretty standard features in the industry, which does not even needed to be said. This is terrible way to reveal spec for the console. Shit like "you don't even need to know where data is located on the disc" No fucking shit.Nah they run at accelerated speeds, it was talked about in the stream. That's why it's not full BC from day one because they want to test all the games and make sure there are no oddities when running at faster speeds.
Still doesn't excuse why there will only be 100ish titles considering how long they've had to work on this.
Trust me, I want as much BC on the PS5 as possible, not having it though won't make me switch to Xbox cause I won't be able to play my old library there either. I hope they can at least make all their exclusives playable, for the rest I'll let my PC be the savior. The Series X is compaitble with lots of older gen games I liked.
