The Xbox Story, how Microsoft Squandered Their Reputation Overnight.

No we don't, they've even said SEVERAL TIMES that they don't have anything locked down yet, which is why they're so cagey on answering anything definitively.

That just means their plans can change if people bitch enough. They made announcements that currently are their plans.

- Mandatory Kinect connection
- Mandatory activation codes and internet connection to tie games to your account
- Locks used games behind a paywall.

Or maybe there is just nothing positive to say about the XBone?

If that's your opinion, fine. But why go into a thread where others want to discuss what they like about the console just to shit on it OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER. It's immature, annoying and childish. It's quite sad, in my opinion, that gamers can't have a little bit of respect for other gamers. I mean, it's not like you unlock GAF achievements if your console of choice "wins".

Ridiculous. I thought the conference was a steaming pile of shit and could easily name several things I liked

What are they? I can't think of a single thing. I'm dead serious, not one damn thing can I think of that I liked.

Those people giving their opinions aren't stopping others from expressing positive opinions. But I will agree that there is a better way to do so than the usual gifs and standard jokes.

On the other hand, this sort of backlash, even the childish kind, seems helpful to generate enough negative buzz so that maybe companies will think twice before pulling shit like this again.

There has never been such an abysmal console reveal like what we saw yesterday. That's why.

The event may have disappointed people, but it still doesn't warrant "Xbox is shit" threads. If the information we got yesterday was EVERYTHING about the new console and it sucked, sure - people should express their decisive feeling. But, for all we know, that was only an intro. There's much more to reveal at E3 and likely in the months leading to the actual launch. Once we have all the facts about Xbox One, I think that is an appropriate time to go for broke in these threads. Right now, we just don't have a clear pic yet. If you think MS did a terrible job organizing the event, so be it. Talk about the event, but to go super negative on Xbox One at this moment is too early. All this reaction just appear overly dramatic and trolling.

I'm pretty sure most people on these forums already hated Microsoft before the Xbone event. All of this is just more of the same.
No way, no how. Lots of love for MS in these parts, and even a little optimism for Kinect once upon a time.

But as this gen has started to wind down, the Gold fee grates on some, and Kinect hasn't lived up to its potential. The latest Halo and Gears soured a large chunk of those communities too.

MS has made the bed they're sleeping in right now, for better or worse. Its not some GAF conspiracy.

I'll miss the scrappy Xbox that put gaming and gamers first, and actually brought something new to the table. But they've been coasting and flailing for a while now.

Again, good for you. Just have the tact and self restraint to stay out of threads where people are discussing what they liked about the console. Simple as that.

See I don't have a problem with those points you listed though. I don't believe in buying used games. Partly because I've always been very picky(don't like scratches on my games) and because I believe developers should get paid for there work. Not everyone has the same issues.

The people that are keeping the faith and continue harping about E3 and the games have me laughing. The odds are so stacked against them that they're setting themselves up for another massive disappointment.

And you were doing great!

Well, up until:

Want your post to be taken as a serious, rational argument? Then I'd have stopped short of the tongue. Otherwise, it's more of the same.

And dude, if I was gonna ban/delete or some other nonesense, it would've been done a page ago. See the other 30 closed threads in the last 24 hours...

There can't be a bit of humor in a long OP?

Why would that one goofy pic cancel out the discussion I typed out before and give you the impression I wanted to commit account suicide?

The original Xbox was a fucking monster. It even has a couple of games running at 720p. Fucking loved my Xbox.

So did I. Then J. Allard left for Zune/Surface/whatever after MS and it went downhill to this conference of "not caring" and "I told you so" when people were all "oh they totally aren't going to do that" when the writing was on the wall back in 2007.

I agree with that.

Typically though, threads are more along the lines of "What do you think about _______?" and in such cases, people should not be annoyed with the incessant "XBone bashing", since it is an obvious reflection of how people feel about the thing.

Is it just me or is every Xbox fan melting down?

They are. It's tough... I remember as a person who enjoys himself a playstation trying to explain away the ps3 price and software draught. I thought everyone was so mean.

Guess what, the price sucked and there were no games. I was an idiot.

i remember something similar being said when the Shadowrun FPS came out. We'll see.

The Shadowrun FPS was actually pretty good.

I didn't follow the table top RPG or earlier games, so I wasn't a fan before, but it felt like a neat class based Counter Strike. Albeit it was pretty clunky and there were 4-6 maps.

Did Microsoft back down with they released braodband-only on the 360 to a barrage of bullshit? No. Don't like any of those points? Don't buy an Xbox One and claim that they're doing things they aren't.

If people want to move to a DD future or a future where they can fully install their games on a console - I certainly do - well these are the necessary steps to take, and rather than being combative without knowing ANY FACTS, it would probably serve people better if they observed to see which steps are being taken now, how we can fix any problems in the future and giving it a chance.

some of you are really underestimating the xbox one.

That's what I've read some say for weeks before the reveal as if something big was coming at the reveal. You could say the same for Sony as even their good show didn't show a lot and they are also being underestimated.

damn good post.. exactly

I wand a DD future I don't; want disks and I want someone to make it happen and MS appears to be willing to find a way.

People are resistant as hell at the thought of changing an aspect of something they have become comfortable with when more comfort is around the corner if they just get out of their own way to see it.

But then again, we are also talking about spending or not spending money and for ME I budget money that I use on my gaming hobby.. I expect to spend a certain amount and if the experiences get better I'll spend more. I don't begrudge the people getting paid that bring me those things.

some people just like spending as little as humanly possible to enjoy this hobby (game sharing etc)

It's not even close to that open and shut. Hell, MS hasn't even been able to explain their own ideas on it.

Its like MS is of two minds about this thing and we're watching the cognitive dissonance play out. Funny enough, this antagonistic duality actually fits with the design sense of the box, and the weird its-one-but-not-really naming.

I want a DD future. I want to enjoy games without disks. I'm willing to make optional compromises on security for those features. But fuck, don't make everything mandatory and weigh that down with a ton of control-freakish, restrictive and expensive cons.

A DD future doesn't need to have the bolded:

That just means their plans can change if people bitch enough. They made announcements that currently are their plans.

- Mandatory Kinect connection
- Mandatory activation codes and internet connection to tie games to your account
- Locks used games behind a paywall.

Lookie here, all of them are bolded. Great that you don't want disks, doesn't mean others don't want it.

I really think most people are going to eat their words with Xbox One. Its going to be awesome.

As a gamer, why would this be awesome? Less competition could lead to a very stale and boring market.

and neither would this one if people wouldn't be so tied to discs but for another 5-10 years we probably are. So we are in that middle transitional period but things have to start going in that direction or it would be another ten or twenty years and I'm not getting any younger. ;)

What nonsense. You really think this 1 hour event did anything to significantly harm Microsoft or the Xbox brand that can't be fixed in a single, solid games focused press conference at E3?

If Microsoft has any huge surprises up their sleeves at E3, which they more than likely do, then all this excess noise will have been for nothing.

As a gamer, why would this be "awesome"?

What? As a gamer you want the new xbox to fail? Well, it won't if that's the case.

He probably means if they show off some awesome exclusives, for instance. Right now, that's the only thing that would sell me on it and even then, I'm not sure I'd want. Honestly, as someone who preferred Xbox 360 over PS3 this gen, I'll only go XBO for the Halo franchise and stick to PS4.

Yup just can't wait to not be able to pay used games (for free), or be able to rent games from gameplay, or my local gamefly, or not have to have my xbox1 connected to the internet once every 24 hours, or not have to worry about my kinect potentially spying on everything I say or do, or not have to worry about my kinect breaking, and thus not being able to use my xbox, and thus having to go out and purchase a new 100+$ kinect just in order to play my xbox.

What is there to eat? Honestly, and sincerely? What is there to eat? Are you supporters just this blind, or are you truly okay with what Microsoft is doing here? It baffles me, it truly does.

Whether its good or not means nothing. It failed because of bad word of mouth. ill never play it and most people never will because the developers treated our opinions like shit. The control lies with us.

We killed FASA. We are in control. We control the money. Deal with it.

I'm pretty sure it's actually the opposite. Sony fans are melting down because they are feeling threatened that the Playstation will not be the most popular console for a second straight generation. That's why you are so many hyperbolic negative threads being created every minute.

Honestly not sure if you're joking or not.

The gaming community spoke and FASA died. Thats all there is to it.
The gaming community responded to the pitch that was offered up. You can't exclude that from the equation. It was a raw deal in every way, even if the core gameplay itself was loved by some.

Look at how that same community responded to the kickstarter of an isometric Shadowrun RPG. Pure love and open wallets.

Hopefully, because if they don't eat their words, all that's left is Doritos and Pizza Hut.
People use these apps as saying Microsoft has stopped focusing on the gamer. You do realize MS is a huge company right? Its not like 343 or Turn10 stop making games to develop that Pizza Hut app right?

We've seen every single console maker in this business who got unrivaled success let it go to their head. It happened to Atari, it happened to Sega after Genesis, it happened to Nintendo, it happened to Sony and it's now happening to Microsoft.

The difference is that a bigheaded Microsoft is scarier and worse than all the prior companies combined.

That's only if you totally ignore all the hardcore Microsoft fanboys who saying the same stuff (like me). I've hardly had a good thing to say about Sony the last generation but fuck Microsoft and their anti-consumer agenda.

What gaming improvements have been made since party chat was introduced? Cloud saves is one I guess... and...
