People actually believe that they haven't been successful under jim because there hasn't been a new locoroco. They don't show early trailers anymore, but better than showing games too early.
Games have lesser variety/quantity but that's sorta across the board in the gaming space.
PS+ being middling. but PS+ being mandatory happened during the PS4
Studio closures have been happeneing ever since the PS3 generation.
Stuff like evolution and studio liverpool were bigger losses than japan studios.
If you look at the actual hardware AND software released
playstation's output is really high quality.
PS5, Dualsense, PSVR2 are all fantastic hardware.
PS studios have been releasing constant bangers.
the quality of first party software is amongst the best sony has ever been
they are arguably the best collection of studios amongst any publisher.
The PS5 lineup so far is better than the PS4 was during it's early years.
Himbo has made Playstation has become more streamlined, it's been an ongoing transition since the late PS3 era.
it's stepping away from what they were bad at and doubled down at what they are good at.
He's not retiring until March so he is giving them plenty of time.Interim huh? Guess Jim didn't give them enough time with his resignation.
and because they haven’t announced games 5 years out like XboxPeople actually believe that they haven't been successful under jim because there hasn't been a new locoroco.
It's already confirmed to be a Japanese dude.
Didn't they start the GAAS thing like 2 years ago why would any of them be ready?I get the feeling that this is a "Forced" Retirement. None of Sony's GAAS are evenly remotely ready and some has been canceled. (Deveation Games, supposedly Factions etc) which would leave a lineup whole because of their divided attention in making Single player and multiplayer games.
Jim Ryan is only 53! Abit early for "Retirement"

I could imagine what Jim was making at PS simply because at one time I knew what Phil Spencer and Ybarra made while at Xbox and it would be easier to retire in his 50sEarly retirement is very common among people who can afford it. I did it myself (albeit at 57).
I expect he will pick up some consulting gigs on the side. I doubt he's going to just sit around on a beach all day.
Please happen. Would be hilarious to see people twisting themselves into knots.Imagine if Phil spencer left xbox.
to replace jimbo as PlayStation's boss.
:O
we can only hope he's more sensible than JimI tell you one thing Totoki wont do, make a gamepass clone like a dumbass.

While that's true, CEOs stepping down before the company has found a replacement is quite rare in corporate Japan. If there's one thing Japanese companies hate, it's uncertainty. That's a silly theory, based only on your feelings.
Early retirement is very common among people who can afford it. I did it myself, albeit at 57, not 53. But I know many people who retired around 53, and some well before that.
I doubt he's going full retirement. I expect he will pick up some consulting gigs on the side. I doubt he's going to just sit around on a beach all day.
The original deal was for 3 years they got 10.Probably not that. Could be that he had a deal on the table for all Activision games for 10 years on PlayStation, which Nintendo took but Jim kept rejecting. The deal he ended up signing was just for COD while Nintendo will continue to get all Activision games as they’re launching the new Switch. He bluffed, lost, and Sony Corp probably didn’t look favorably on it.

Good for him if this wasn’t forced and enjoy life and congrats on being able to retire early yourself
Have been retired myself for 23 years now
They offered 3, he rejected it, then they offered 10 (which was ALL Activision games not just COD and what Nintendo accepted), but he still rejected it. Then when the FTC lost he signed a 10 year deal that was just for COD.The original deal was for 3 years they got 10.
I don't think corporate would care about the crash bandicoot money so much they'd axe him he secured the the COD bag and began setting them up with a shot at alternative revenue after COD leaves no one is getting the boot for crash. They offered 3, he rejected it, then they offered 10 (which was ALL Activision games not just COD and what Nintendo accepted), but he still rejected it. I think that's what gives credence to the notion that this wasn't necessarily pre-planned. I mean hey it could even be something health-related that he would rather keep private and therefore the company says "early retirement" (which is fine of course).
Short-term gains. He shut down iconic Playstation studios. I hated the guyJim ran the company how a company should be ran; with accountability. And it showed.
I know you guys love your gaming shirt wearing dude bro's; but I'd rather see someone that knows how to run a business.
Oops didn't see that part. In that case yeah perhaps they simply haven't found anyone suitable yet.Is it? Well, he gave them 6 months, so that seems like enough time to find a replacement. They have an interim guy appointed, so it's covered. It would be different if he gave two-weeks notice, lol.
Anyhow, people are welcome to speculate all they like about fatal illnesses or behind-the-scenes skullduggery, but there's zero evidence for any of that. I think the story makes good sense on the face of it, and I don't feel the need to speculate about what else it might be.

Very groovy baby, yeah !TheJapanese PS players right now
Aging more or less stopped for Phil after he gained possession of the One Ring.I was very wrong then... but still, Phil looks much younger to me
Jim Ryan is not 53. Can't find his actual birthdate but he got his master's degree in 1982. He would have been 14 at the time if was 53 now. Jim Ryan is in his 60s.
People seem to love this guy, but I always thought he was an NPC.

Guys kidding aside its most likely health reasons.
The problem with Jim is that he hasn't done anything with his time as CEOI get the feeling that this is a "Forced" Retirement. The deal was they would honour the existing contract that ended in 2024Probably not that. Could be that he had a deal on the table for all Activision games for 10 years on PlayStation, which Nintendo took but Jim kept rejecting. get better dreams(imagine your dream is a CEO of a video game company getting fired)
