Somethings going on with XSX supplies.

Same in Sweden. Both XSX and XSS have been available for a long time.
Have they? Where do you find a XSX in Sweden? I've been on lookout for one for some weeks and I can't seem to get a hold of one for a reasonable price. Seems out of stock everywhere I look with "unknown" delivery dates..... You can order one from Microsoft though....

For example https://www.prisjakt.nu/produkt.php?p=5147004

You are absolute right, although they have been in stock for a long time, why they aren’t now is weird 😀

Seems like Series S has sold more while Series X is stagnating.

Difficult to be sure because MS doesn’t report earnings reports or any interesting data about its xbox division…

But inferring from 3rd party sources, S seems to sell significantly better than X.

Couple that with losses on the Xsex hardware, layoffs and general tough times at MS…

Maybe they are reducing Series X production and focusing the units they do produce on territories where they might sell.

Perhaps they’ll “main” Series S going forward. It seems like a lot of MS marketing now focuses on the S - looking a the social media stuff MS put out around Christmas it was all Series S focused.

So if I had to guess I’d say MS just isn’t making that many Xsex for the moment presumably because it isn’t selling.
Series S has sold less. They have been relatively easy to find since day one as people want a more powerful Series X.

PlayStation 5 is easier to get now and people aren't buying XSX out of sheer desperation because they can't get PlayStation 5. That is a fact. In my circle of friends, 10 people bought an XSX because they couldn't buy a PlayStation 5 for months. Have already switched to the PlayStation 5 and sold their XSX.

Man that's devastating.

MS failed to capitalize on the situational advantage that was handed to them with Series S and covid. As the biggest software company in the world, they should have been able to do.........something.

Maybe it depends on where you are. The general vibe seems to be that the first choice would usually be a PS5, but people are willing to settle with XSX because PS5 isn't on the shelf.

You can take it another degree and say because XSX isn't on the shelf, people settle for XSS. Which appears to be what happened, XSS moved units just because they existed.

Went to MediaMarkt yesterday, everything is available but somehow both high-end consoles are still sold as bundles only… doesn’t make any sense to me. The PS5 was bundled either with GoW (alright) or with Forspoken + Gotham Knights (not alright). XSX is only available in the FH5 €599 bundle.

10 people? Doing the same exact thing at the same exact time? For the same exact reason? Located entirely within your circle of friends?

As I said, they couldnt get a PS5 since the Launch of the system. (Like millions of others) They wanted to have a Next Generation System and the only way for them at this time was to buy a XSX. They all came from PS4 and tried the GP with the XSX..

OP… dude, you‘re in Australia. This country is fucking hopeless at stocking, selling and delivering electronic equipment. Things can be all over the shop when it comes to getting stuff. Compared to the UK it’s absolutely hopeless. If it means anything though, they had Series X in Cairns JB Hifi when I went in there the other day.
Others reporting the same thing in other countries

Ot take it another degree and say because there are no XSXs in store people are settling for a PS5.

Seriously, no one is buying an XSX because they can't find a PS5 and visa versa.
Maybe they settle for a Series S if they can't get a Series X.

Nah, considering the XSX has been just as hard to buy as the PS5 has been, that's just fanboy nonsense.

They are plenty in Ireland. The following is from Smyths website. Been like this since before Christmas 2021. The Series S has been plentiful since Feb 2021. The PS5 is more available since Christmas 2022, like gold dust prior

Quick, now let's start making the narrative that it will be down to less demand for Series X and not shortages in manufacturing....

Probably due to some wafers being made for the Series S. There would be more Series Xs on the market if it wasn't for that. Also its probably true that Microsoft isn't producing as many systems as Sony which could help explain the shortages. But I believe they made that decision due to the demand being lower overall if the numbers prove anything.

Aren’t they losing $200 on every xsx sold? Why would they go out of their way to stock it?

Its kinda like how Sony released a $399 sku but its sales fraction of the overall ps5 sales. They lose more money on it so they just don’t bother shipping too many of them. Could be the same with the xsx. Sony wanted to hit the $399 number, Ms wanted the tflops victory. Both came at a cost.

It doesn't help that Sony is killing it this gen with their software. Those who can afford a current gen console probably ends up buying a PS5.

Yeah that 30% number Sony gave us was pretty surprising. Also those that have big digital libraries probably want to continue gaming on the same ecosystem. That's one of the big things that happened last gen when digital grew a ton.

The PS5 went through multiple cost cutting revisions since its launched. Cost of manufacturing still went up for it though.

Which makes me wonder why Microsoft hasn't done the same. Just strange we haven't seen any cost cutting done with the Series hardware but maybe it just isn't possible given how they are built.

Good that ps5 supply seems to be fine now. Xbox supply seemed way better for a long time. Iam sure u find one if you Look for it.

Only thing I’ve noticed is that the Microsoft Store appears to no longer sell the expansion storage cards, which is annoying since I’ve got enough rewards points for a 2TB.

I’ve been across the US and have never seen a PS5 in stock anywhere. I don’t know a single person who has one. Plenty of XSX in stock and people with them though.

Wonder if they are making revision since it's hard to get atm

They use the series x soc for their xcloud blades don't they? Maybe pumping some into the data centres at the moment, not sure why else they would be having supply issues now.

Some of those wafers go towards the Series S. I guess if they didn't have the S they would be able to make more Series X systems.

Look at it this way, they produced a lot of Series S and they have been constantly discounted and constantly available. Maybe they are trying to meet demand on Series X without oversupplying because that would be really bad marketing.

Well these numbers from Spain yesterday don’t back that up.

PS5: 8.900 (8.800 Disco | 100 Digital) / 14.950YTD
Switch: 4.250 (2.550 OLED) / 37.500 YTD
XBS: 550 (400 S | 150 X) / 3.000 YTD

But there aren’t many data points to go by - MS seems embarrassed to give any figures.

Perhaps they’re too modest to tell us how well their “fastest selling xbox evar!!” (or rather xboxes) are selling.

Series X is available across Europe.

Also people are picking up less Series consoles, according to Microsoft financials, so there's a documented surplus in supply.

I think MS bet big on a firesale for XSS for the holiday to move units based on price and planned production accordingly to produce much more XSS compared to XSX. I’m so curious what the LTD ratio is between them, but of course, no reported numbers from MS.

Our market is flooded with PS5’s here. Now nearly all big restaurants, amusement shops, rental apartments are stacked with PS5’s, let alone homes. Xbox? Been and will continue to be an extremely rare breed that some buy with PS5 out of curiousity.
Or to complete their gaming "Infinity Gauntlet"

Probably they don't want to supply too much so as to appear a smaller company.

Waiting for Acti-Blizz deal to go through.

Seems farfetched but always a possibility, you know Sony's latest numbers will help them a great deal in court situations.

The more likely scenario is some kind of revision is being released soon, causing them to flush channels beforehand. This would hint at a change that makes the previous models less desirable than the new, maybe a storage upgrade.

It is very unusual that the systems have gone back to being completely out of stock at most of the major US retailers. BB had been letting you order from the next shipment for quite a while, so, you could always order just sometimes the shipping date would be a week or two out.

Simple, they're not prioritizing Series X production. Series S has become their focus and flagship from a sales perspective. We've known this for some time now.

Anyone in the US can get XSX or XSS right now. I don't see how this is a supply issue.

The link you posted shows the XSX as completely out of stock at MSRP with only a couple of sub-seller and the FH bundle at Amazon besides the pre-order at Amazon (that still requires an invite). 🤷‍♂️
