The assassination of Kara Lynne by the cowards at Limited Run Games

I don’t understand any of this, Harry Potter is awesome, just started reading it for my 10yo daughter, she’s loving it so much, I wish I started with the books too but sadly I went with the movies first (which I love too though)
It's a bit complicated. Basically JK Rowling is a domestic abuse survivor and a women's rights advocate. There has been a bit of a trend in the trans community to pursue an exclusionary type of trans inclusion which impacts on women. Including: claiming that using the term "woman" is exclusionary ( hence replacing it with "people who menstruate" - but note there is no equivalent for replacing "man") and claiming that anyone who identifies themselves as female has the right to use women's toilets (with no consideration for women's safety and how nefarious men might abuse it as a blanket policy).

Rowling took issue with both of these examples and somewhat inartfully pushed back in an open letter. A rebuke on her tone and understanding of trans issues may have been warranted but within the context of respecting her position defending women's rights. But in this day and age sensible, moderate and informed reactions don't exist. The trans community and its defenders exploded and have been cancelling anything related to Rowling ever since. Rowling hasn't backed down and has defended her right to speak up for women. And Resetera is where the cancerous cancel mobs hang out..so here we are: that nefarious and sickly beast is back on the Gaf airwaves.

Basically the Trans rights movement is misogyny masquerading as something else.

Following their Twitter, I wonder if there is a paradigm shift and finally people voice their opinions and reasonings against the lunatics, I remember Twitter being pretty much one sided and in favor of the lunatics, or if Elon actually fixed that thing.

Thanks for trying to explain it. I guess I just don’t understand how it can become this big thing and how a group of mostly anonymous or even fake people can have so much power that a real person can lose their real job over something stupid they said on internet years ago.

If you have a serious complaint then I think it’s fair to at least have the decency to confront a real person as your real self and not through some online anonymous alternate persona or by doing some hive mind witch hunting.

And I bet if someone would dig through years of everything the purple tinker person has said someone would find something to exaggerate into something someone think is big too.

Limited Run Games (LRG) is a publisher for bad video games.

A girl named Kara Lynne worked as the community manager for LRG.

She said she was excited for the Harry Potter game.

The psychopaths at Resetera lost it when they heard Harry Potter and went after her...full detective mode.

They went into her old tweets from 6+ years ago and found out she doesn't agree with their full views and has annoying people blocked.

The Purple haired crybabies continue throwing a fit and threatening LRG unless they fire Kara Lynne.

She got fired and they're still not satisfied and continue shit talking online to everyone who doesn't 100% agree with their views.
Thank you, but Limited Run do super cool and rare releases, i disagree they release "bad games"!

But thank you very much for clarify to me and the full info! :)

Well, shit..tuck my knob between my legs and call me Sandra, this is some dystopian level madness that Western Society is crushing itself with.

No wonder the likes of Putin thinks he can steal countries and get get away with it, when he sees absurd shit like this consuming us.

If it were like ree in here then the vast majority of folks would be banned for their "dismissiveness".

The way those people abuse the word “incredibly” irks me more than most of the shit they do.

Same reason someone wants to be part of this site - to talk about video games.
You can easily ignore other topics.
Talking about video games there gets you banned. Like doing anything else.
That place is an activists‘ site that had to pretend to be a video game forum to hijiack a number of members they otherwise would never get. And they absolutely love to be able to dictate what games can be discussed there, and how.

I did not get banned. Yes, sometimes they get over the top (like with CP 2077 and HP), but overall quality of the discussion is really high.
I don’t care much about non-gaming related topics, I don’t even go to other subforums.

I think that big institutions are so ashamed of the racism and sexism that was prevalent until very recently that they overcorrect for every slight against every type of minority around.

I also believe that both normies going online en mass from 2008 and how financially precarious life has become for so many young people has created a demographic with way more self-described political activists in it than before.

And boomers, who sit on boards etc. overestimate the number of people on Twitter. They are terrified of like 57 people who have 40,000 tweets each. These people need to be mocked and shunned, such is their real standing in the world.

My ban on that cesspool was an absolute blessing. Whilst their forum is active, one opposing opinion is enough for a permaban. They do not allow for any opposing views in their hivemind.

It most certainly is not. The quality of discussions on era is absurdly low. It's full of shallow opinions expressed by people with extremely limited knowledge of video games. You'll typically find a somewhat well written OP that expresses a surface level opinion, which then leads to one sentence replies either agreeing or disagreeing.

It’s growing and I people need to push back on it.
Then I would suggest the better strategy to do that is to be reasonable about it, and to emphasize the need for caution, a long process, and qualified professional evaluation.

If you "push back" by going full transphobe, ranting about pronouns, misgendering people, and framing it as a conspiracy of perverts to groom children, you completely undermine any reasonable concern for kids.

It's people like that that derail the conversation and keep anyone from even having the discussion. Don't take that bait.

Anyway I don't want to derail this conversation forever, I think there's a more important discussion to be had about if employees have a right to feel safe at their jobs even if they say controversial things in their off hours.

Thinking pronouns and misgendering are ridiculous and not wanting people to mutilate children is the reasonable take.

I suspect you would have agreed with this a few years ago.

So I just did a cursory check of that thread on the "other" forum... And wasn't surprised to see that there had been a few permanent bans.

Just out of curiousity... If buying a game is seen as supporting transphobia, isn't it the case that buying a console is also seen as supporting slavery?

One of the last users on that thread (before it got locked) said something similar, and they got permanently banned.

Maybe if we all stopped buying consoles, then not only would we not be supporting slavery, but there also wouldn't exist any games that would support transphobia.

But at the same time, what happens to the developers? Are they supporting transphobia?

And what about the console manufacturers who are allowing the game to be on their platform? Are they supporting slavery AND transphobia?

I know that this is a massive case of whataboutism... But where do you draw the line?

Also... And in case anyone wants to know... I wasn't that person on that thread on the "other" forum who got banned.

I'm not even on that "other" forum.

Some era people will boycott the game, but not everyone. There are members that are looking forward to it.
As for the slavery, there is a pinned topic about that as well. But you know that almost noone will choose not to buy consoles because of that.

Boycotts rarely work. People who do that do it as an individual act. I am sure that they are aware that HP game will sell really well.

No, I think the whole conversation about pronouns and misgendering tends to sound a bit aspie, like "Well technically their chromosomes*snort*. It ignores the rather obvious human and compassionate component to a degree that is revealing of the speaker.

There's no reason to be cruel to people who are just trying to live their lives in a way that doesn't make them want to die. No semantic arguments trumps the rather obvious human component. Just be nice, man. It costs nothing.
