MachineGames’ Indiana Jones title is a ‘unique genre mash-up’, says Todd Howard - “It is a definite love letter to Indiana Jones”

Probably driving, flying, some puzzles, maybe shooting is 1st person, the rest 3rd.
I would be fine with that.

This is also redemption. When I accepted the offer to go to San Francisco in 2009, it was to lead the design on an Indiana Jones game, but that game got cancelled before I even got there.

Now, I get a chance to do what I originally hoped to, but this time I get to do it with some of my oldest and best friends. Joining MachineGames is like coming home – amazing people I worked with during Riddick and Darkness, but also teeming with new ones, whose talent daily blow me away.”

He added: “I’m so excited about what we are building, and the way we get to do it – featuring one of most iconic characters ever, in collaboration with my friends at Lucasfilm (hi Craig!), published by one the biggest publishers in the world, and doing it at an amazing studio like MachineGames.

Old starbreeze had some of the best talent in the industry. This game will be amazing.

Very talented, but also first person games. I just hope am wrong on this, but I wouldn't be too shocked if it does end up primarily a first person game.

another wait it's gonna be good, xbox is doomed

.....what?

Every single game made by Machine Games in their entire history, barring one VR game, has released on Xbox.

There has never been any uncertainty around this.

Cool, I'm interested in seeing what they come up with.

Is "genre mashup" what ppl call "derivative" or "it doesn't do anything new, but does a lot of things other games do"... cause I like those!

Side scroller that breakout into FPS for combat? :p

Should be fun, it's a great IP (except everything after Crusader...).

In before cinematic 3rd person action game with light rpg elements...the modern day mash up.
I will be surprised if it's not first-person game. It's Machine Games studio created by people responsible for Chronicles of Riddick. If there is one studio that can make IJ game that is not another Tomb Raider/Uncharted clone it's them.

Guerilla only made first person shooters until horizone..

I hope they nail it! If they do, this could really be something special.

I still really wish we got that one Indiana Jones game that was using the euphoria engine and got cancelled. It looked so good at the time, haha.

The teaser definitely still works with me. Gave me the chills. I really hope Todd sticks the landing on this one as I am a huge fan of the first few movies (Crusade was okay too).

Is this really going to be in first-person view?
It's an adventure game.....please have it be third person!

Stealth, action, awesome puzzles, shooting, and hand to hand brawls, all with the whip in first person!? Sign me up.
So uncharted but also with a whip :D

Ok first person will be something new… maybe. Honestly don’t have much hype for this after playing through so many uncharted games. Is Harrison Ford actually voicing Indy?

Yep, but they keep adding people to the studio that are (to my knowledge) solely familiar with first person games. At the same time would they really "waste" a iconic character like this with only first person and having him shown in cutscenes only?

Would they really pay for a license and then only have him visible in cutscenes? Would even the IP holder be OK with that I wonder. Then again, they did for Riddick.
This just needs to be Uncharted with a guy with a whip and a pistol. That’s it. There’s no need to overcomplicate it.

I agree. That's all I want. Played Emperor's Tomb last year and it's still fun. And I don't think an action adventure will work as well in first person.

But the wait continues, we won't find out anytime soon I'm afraid.

Chronicles of Riddick and The Darkness director Jens Andersson has joined MachineGames to lead design on its Indiana Jones game

In total, more than 20 developers who worked on 2007’s The Darkness are on the Indiana Jones team

My excitement for this game just went from a four to a FUCK YES!

Can You Imagine What SureAI Is Going To Do With Garfield?
Infernal Machine and Emperor's Tomb were both really good and I'd be happy if we get a similar game to those two.

I honestly hate 1st person perspective. It's such a hindrance and pulls me out of whatever a game has to offer. I get many love it, and that we see this way. But for me, 3rd person always felt more natural. I dream in 3rd person, and even recollect memories in 3rd person.

It's not about what they never did, but what their very unique expertise is. They are best studio making story heavy (you could say cinematic) first person games. Loss of that for another generic third person cinematic action game would be painful. And no offence but Guerilla never was even half as good in making first person games as Starbreeze/Machine Games is.

Just saw the trailer for the new Indy-movie, Dial of Destiny. Looked pretty good. Lots of slick action scenes. Got me stoked for this game. I bet we'll see more of it when the new movie releases in summer.

I'm not sold on genre mashups, they can sometimes feel like you are playing multiple different games made by different developers and lose a lot of coherency. Even worse when you love one of the genres but totally hate one of the others and have to endure through the bad parts to enjoy the good. Indiana Jones also as a character is first and foremost an archaeologist and I don't feel like this comes through in any of the films, they are the all-action Indy in his hat with his whip totally fucking up archeologically important sites without a second thought about preservation and documentation :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I fucking hope they don't make another "let's slow walk for an hour to be cinematic" bullshit game tho! which I have the feeling they will do.

if they show this and at any point whatsoever I see a fucking slow walking sequence I'll roll my eyes in disgust and flush any kind of hype down the toilet.

When I played Indiana Jones adventure games, I really liked them, but kept thinking that some other genres would be a better fit. Ironically, now I'm so tired of popular generes that I'd much rather play an adventure game again.

But realistically, something like first Tomb Raider with good mechanics, lot of exploration and slower tempo would be the best choice for today's gaming world. I can't even imagine what could make it special as an FPS game.

I'm not sure who's voicing him. That would be sick though! I mother fucking love Uncharted and Indiana Jones so I'm super hype. Especially because it's in the new Wolfenstein engine.

That's actually wild. I'm not sure that I've ever met anyone who has memories in third person. Dreaming makes sense as I feel like that happen occasionally though.

Goldeneye was awesome in first-person, so it proves that iconic characters don’t necessarily need to be in TP. I’m personally not massively convinced Machine Games can pull out a proper classic, but I’ll be happy to stand corrected.
