PlayStation welcomes Housemarque to the family

jshackles

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Seems like a good acquisition by Sony and a good fit for both companies. Returnal wasn't for me, but a lot of people really liked it, and I have to say it looked amazing.

I'm glad that Housemarque is able to secure a financial future and that they're able to keep working on games that push the limits of what can be done!

It is a genuine concern. Sony and EA are masters in killing studios. If I am not mistaken, Sonic closed 7 studios and EA 9.

For those curious, HM was working on this, before deciding to focus on Returnal:

They seemed pretty far along, so I would guess they'd finish this up and add this to the Sony portfolio of PC/PS releases (and may be the first day-one PS/PC release, although as discussed earlier, TLOU Factions might also do that)
i think they mention about this project somewhere. and yeah its canned

Fallout 76 is really great now; people really should check it out, as it's insanely cheap now and works great.. of course you have to at least like Destiny style games, but especially if you can find someone to co-op with FO76 is a special game.

Runs REALLY well on PS5 too.
Played it on XboneX made my house/base..explored a lot with a friend but saddly it still has tons of bugs and the game engine does not helps .the world and lore is cool but nothing different from previos fallouts. The most "fun" part was when someone launched an atomic bomb, specially if you were on the impact zone.

It has fun multiplayer elements but lacks of consistency and again was a rushed game...

Hope someday Mictosoft gives Fallout to Obsidian to have New Vegas 2 or Fallout 5.

Well done Sony. Now try to get more talented studios. Your current devs won't carry you for long.
Well Done Applause GIF by MOODMAN

It's now obvious what your deal is.... pathetic dude. Why are you even in here?

Housemarque is super talented and Imagine what they could do with an actual full budget for something like Returnal?

Imagine them expanding and making something even bigger in scope than Returnal?

You have issues dude......

"Very targeted acquisitions of teams we know well"

- Housemarque: ✓
- Bluepoint:
- Remedy:
- Sumo Digital:
- Arc System:

Remedy has a number of PC games in the roadmap, I don't see that one happening also Arc feels like a stretch cause of Switch/PC but money talks ultimately

I'm not a huge fan of Housemarque and haven't really played their games but it's always exciting with a new studio in the family. It will be cool to see what they bring to the table.

From a gamer perspective it's a boring acquisition since their stuff was always only on Playstation. It is most likely a good business move for both Sony and Housemarque though.

yeah im not sure either. but they said something alomg the lines that the compatition is fierce. ''duh'' and come on, they are said that are making something else. its canned lol
That something else was Returnal... lol They put Stormdivers on hold in Jan. 2020.. said they are working on something huge they need to focus on.. then announced Returnal 6 months later.

The game is still listed on Steam and there is no indication it's been canned.

Sony also recently told investors they were interested in expanding their multiplayer / GAAS portfolio..

I mean maybe the game will be canned, but I doubt it. Being marketed by Sony will help Stormdivers compete in the crowded BR environment.

9 of their 20 games where either exclusive to other platforms or multiplatform. What are you talking about?

I don't care for their usual genre but if they continue with stuff similar to returnal i'm okay with that, not exactly an earth shaking acquisition tho.

Not going to lie, I had to google housemarque. So the Returnal devs eh? I guess that’s cool? I didn’t particularly care for that game and would’ve preferred blue point but sure why not.

This is also accurate. It’d be like if Nintendo bought game freak. Yes it’s be a huge get to secure them but it’s not like game freak made games for other platforms (aside from Timbo the BA elephant)

sony's organic way of growing their first party makes it easy to guess who they might aquire. bluepoint is obvious too. i think eventually kojima productions will officially join PS studios aswell.

So the ones before that doesn't count. Now i understand you.
I'm a little confused at what you are getting at. Count towards what? They didn't release anything outside of Playstation all last gen except for one game that also hit PC. Their next game would have most likely only been PS only again since they have a good working relationship with Sony. As a gamer nothing changes with the acquistion which is why I said it isn't really all that exciting news. It's most likely good news from a business perspective for both companies involved.

I doubt Housemarque would be doing AAA games without Sony's backing. Returnal was likely a test case, they passed with flying colors.

This acquisition means Housemarque is now a full-blown AAA studio. They were a smaller (yet very talented) indie studio last gen.

You said their "stuff" was always and only on Playstation. That is not true so i called you out on that.

I'm sure any extra cash Sony can toss their way will help. Minus some of the bugs at launch, Returnal felt like it could hang with some of the bigger games already. The graphics are really good and the gameplay/combat is super smooth. It will be interesting to see their next project when Sony pumps in some more resources.

Not surprised. I said that Sony would acquire Housemarque and Bluepoint Games (which is next) a year ago after their June SOP.

But but but....you can't throw money at it right or at least not as much money as the competition, right Jimbo??? lmao

Come on Sony and Microsoft, let's start acquiring a shit ton of studios and publishers....let's go baby!!! :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:

Sony also doesn't have the need to make big purchases. It is easy to brag about Microsoft's massive amount of money, but that doesn't change the fact that they are they ones who are having to play catch-up here.
How long are we into the XSX life-cycle. Still ZERO, absolutely ZERO games have been released.

I have no idea what these Xbots are bragging about. There has been ZEROOOOOO games on the Xbox so far. ZEEEEERO. Bethesda was a shit buy IMHO. They haven't made a good game since Oblivion.

I hope their next game will take advantage of Sony's increasing budget so that it will have more interesting environments and they will not look as monochromatic and drab as those in Returnal. That was something that really put me off from the game (besides the ugly/plain looking MC).

yeah i realise that after i posted :messenger_tears_of_joy: lets not forget this is my conclusion based on their future plans. to be fair we'll know soon enough
Well they said they had one game in dev now; I would presume that is Stormdivers... and then they want to make bigger games in the future.

Which is obviously now their opportunity with the purchase; but I don't think it means Sony doesn't want to ignore Stormdivers. It fits their strategy.

If they can get a BR game to take off w/ MTX that would be big for Sony. And while Stormdivers probably would have flopped w/o Sony (as HM admitted), it might succeed just on the merits of it being backed by them now.

you have a fair point as well. if the game is further along they might as well finish

That's the "Style" of the game and has nothing to do with budget... Returnal was not monochromatic either - you're either trolling or have not played it.

Nier: Automata has a similar style, for gameplay purposes. Budget is not at all relevant to the point you're making, if any.

It offered a perfect contrast to the vibrant and colorful particles which would not had this effect otherwise.

By the way, guys. If you haven’t yet, go play Matterfall. Can’t recommend that enough. It’s a 2D Returnal. Also, the closer you’ll get to a Metroid Dread on PSX.
