Digital Trends: While the PlayStation 5 had immediate appeal, the Xbox Series X feels more and more like the best long-term choice this generation.

Why would you even do that bro?
So far because of the eco system and the controller. That has made me buy most multi plats on Xbox. I'll see if the DualSense changes that.

I game on both systems, but it's probably 70-30 in Xbox' favor the last few years.

You'll miss the games because of a controller? It's upto you at the end of the day but I'd recommend you to switch if you find one on sale few years down the road.

No, I play on both systems but I prefer to play multiplats with the best controller. I own PS4 for the exclusives.
Oh I thought you never got into the PS ecosystem just to support your favourite system. My bad. Multiplats should theoretically work better on XSX so I guess you made a great choice and in a few years PS will be cheaper and with more exclusives so you can nab one then.

I have both. 360 was my main the gen before last and PS4 last gen. I don’t think there’s going to be a clear “winner” between PS4 and XSX as they’re so similar, but XSX is shaping up to be my main. I prefer the Elite controller to the DualSense and Game Pass is a great value and full of games that interest me so that's sure ro get a lot of time and Ave me money this gen. a Switch and Switch Lite that get plenty of use.

I expect multiplats to be very similiar on both system so that's no concern either way. :)

For me, having a PC makes an Xbox console redundant, I barely ever used the ones I have. However, even if I put value on having the same "ecosystem" across both my PC and console like this guy, it would end up being limited to PC games through the Microsoft Store or Gamepass app anyway, which make up such a small percentage of my total play time on PC. Game streaming also isn't available in my region, but I'm not really the kind of person who would play video games on my phone anyway let alone stream them, so that doesn't really add value to me.

You do yourself a disservice by bringing up the Master Chief Collection. In its current state it’s one of the best games on the market. The longevity it’s having on Steam backs this up. Same statement applies to Sea of Thieves.

Doom Eternal is pretty meh...

Ha Ha Ha Lol GIF

Not even mentioning Double Fine who’ve made some great games, and not delving in to Playground’s previous games because their critical and fan reception goes against your argument? Pretty weak.
It took them years to get MCC to any workable state. And honestly they only did it because they needed to save face for a failing brand. I’m not giving them credit for taking years to finish a broken product.

And it’s also telling that MCC is still only good Halo release on the One as Halo 5 is such a weak installment. So much that Infinite seems to distance itself from that games story. There is no reason to trust 343 at all.

Sea of Thieves is a boring ass game for someone not interested in “go find your own fun games”. I liked it when Rare made strong single player games. They haven’t done that under MS ever. I see this game as a constant point in favor for MS, but I sure know no one who plays this game.

Doom Eternal is mediocre. Doom 2016 was an amazing game and Eternal goes out of its way to deliver something completely opposite of that game. Shit platforming, pace ruining mission structure, an idiotic and poorly written story that takes itself far too seriously and is just wastes your time, forced and less free form gameplay thanks to a focus on enemy weakness spots and limited ammunition mechanics. And of course the shitty Marauder enemy. I don’t know how people who like 2016 think Eternal is at all a good game.

Double Fine has made great games? When? Was it over a decade ago when Psychnouts came out? Was it in between the 5 years it’s taken the sequel to be made? Don’t think people were too into Broken Age and their XBLA games back in the day were decent more than anything.
They are hardly some powerhouse developer.

Playground games has only made FH games. Which are fine. It’s impossible to say how well they will handle Fable, beyond that the technical qualities and open world will be good.

Weak argument? The argument is MS first party is currently weak and unproven. And it is. All I see is xbots with no arguments beyond “oh it will come” or lame triggerd reactions. Which sure I am triggerd, as I’ve had a Xbox One and One X and now series X and have constantly heard the same shit. “Oh the games are coming” “oh this will be the biggest year for Xbox”. Sure

I have a PS5. I played MM and beat Astro’s playroom. They aren’t games to be bragging about to make a statement like “Sony fans are too busy playing games”. I put more hours into Immortals and Cyberpunk than any PS5 exclusive

My PS5 says I spent 68 hours in Demon Souls Remake, 50 hours in Miles Morales. So yeah these are certainly games to talk high and brag about. I've spent more time in these games than someone would've spent trying to figure out how to get his/her cyberpunk copy returned for a refund.

Zenimax, Playground, Obsidian; all weak and unproven and if you disagree with the Cherry-popper here you better believe he’s going to call you an Xbot.

Love these fake ps5 owners claiming ps5 has nothing but returnal. I try not to attack Xbox anymore, but once you can compete w ps5’s launch line up, then we can talk. Spidey and Souls are the best games of the generation so far, and it’s not even an argument. If returnal ends up being as good as bloodborne was as a souls inspired game (diff developers I know), then that’s huge for PS. I think it’s all about games tbh.

Have to agree. Playstation is just the console you get if you dont care about performance and just want to play a couple exclusives. once you play them then it sits there gathering dust until whenever more exclusives come out. Right now the only exclusives worth playing on PS5 are spiderman and demons souls. One is just a short spin off and the other is a remake of an 11 year old game. Not too exciting.

If you want that extra performance and a console that will play multiplatform games then Xbox is the way to go especially with gamepass, xcloud, and far superior backwards compatibility. Exclusive games arent there yet but seems promising. Halo Infinite. Forza 8/Horizon 5. State of Decay 3. Hellblade. And of course possibly future Doom/Elder Scrolls games.

i've owned every playstation since 1995 and decided to go xbox. Sony exclusives dont interest me. Tlou has gone to shit. Uncharted is just a tomb raider rip off. God of war, spiderman, and ghost of tsushima done nothing for me. The only ones i quite enjoyed were gran turismo and horizon zero dawn.
Either someone didn't get the memo from DF or extra performance is new code for an implied suggestion of something that's completely opposite to current reality.

This thread has had new year champagne pop offs... folks letting it all out. "No Surrender to the Blue Banner!" "Last man Standing"

Flight Sim is a simulator, not even a game, it's not even playable on Xbox, you need a keyboard... Ori is ok as a platformer.

But that certainly doesn't make up for the tons of superior AAA games we got on PS4.

If people thought like you and not like me, sales wouldn't go 3:1 worldwide to Sony... Just saying.

1. You can play Flight Sim with XB controller on PC (I have actually played it like this)
2. Should we apply the same logic that Sim is not a game to racing sims as well?

Reading the article they are litteraly just basing this on game pass it sounds like.
They mention social - but that is only because their friends are on Xbox. You can't make wide judgements based on that as for other people it is flipped.
And they mention media - but give no actual reason for preffering the Xbox for it. They just say "I naturally decided to add my logins to my Xbox" - where is the reasoning there?

I mean - seriously?
How many Xbox's have been sold in total since 2001?
How many PlayStaation's have been sold in the same time period?
Hell based on the numbers I can find - the PS2 has lifetime sales pretty much matching every single Xbox combined - and yet it is Sony who are irrelevant?
What that means is for the majority of people - when they think of gaming, they do not think Xbox, they think PlayStation or Nintendo.

It is not only GP library value, it is also the cross-device experience, I play on PC, Xbox, Playstation, and when it will be available I will on mobile (waiting for xCloud iOS), and the game progress across Xbox and PC sync seamlessly. I can continue my gaming sessions across multiple devices. MS publishing games on Xbox and PC makes perfect sense as it allows this experience, where players can play a game/continue their game regardless of the device.

Also, lots of people saying that GP is full of low-quality games, while the avg. score for GP games is 77, there are/were (some were removed) - 37 games with MC over 90, 247 games with MC between 80-90. This is based on the below list;

Why reward a company that doesn't reward you? Given your complaints I'm puzzled why you still give them money. Never understand it... Unless you like collecting hardware. Doom Eternal is a good game tho...

I've seen all the justifications out there. Push comes to shove, a lot of folks that are attached to that brand simply don't care about gaming as much except a couple franchises (casuals posing as hardcore).... and even that excuse has ran its course given the new changes in games availability on other platforms, as well as the performance of said franchises when it comes to delivering for fans. The third party multiplat clinch flopped harder than Crackdown at launch as well. Best place to play third party multiplats is the PS5. And it's not like they ever gave a shit since we know they bought Xbox no matter what when the Xbox One was, without a doubt, an inferior multiplat experience relative to the PS4 (so we all know it was just ammo to validate purchase amongst peers of the rival club - MS just pulled a fast one on em by misleading with the power narrative). It's all back to the tried and true basics... about "friends™", and digital libraries. I can say with certainty the overwhelming majority of gamers only own one console, despite claims otherwise, even those very few that own multiple barely touch their non-preferred platform (dust collectors - I was there too in my younger years). Ties can be cut.

Launched in a bad state is understatement. The game did not work for years. And it took years for them to get it to a playable state. Sorry if you think that's fine. But I sure did'nt wait years to play MCC, no I moved unto games whose online actually worked. Not really a lack of imagination because I'm not into the type of game Sea of Thieves is, but I guess rare is unable to make anything with authored experiences anymore so I guess that's the best you'll get.. Double Fine hasn't produced a game in years, why am I supposed to see them as some huge gain for xbox? Espically since the games before were hardly that exciting. Did you play Broken Age? It took a year for act 2 to come out and it was pretty disappointing. Other then that, it's been small little games of which quite honestly the Xbox already has tons of. Why should anyone be excited about Double Fine? I never said Playground was weak, I said who knows how thier Fable game will turn out. I did'nt say Zenimax was weak, I said you'll be waiting awhile for thier huge games. And well yeah I do think the last Two Wolfenstien games were bad and Arkane and Tango's next games are on PS5. If the argument is Xbox has an amazing line-up, sure dosen't seem like it.

I'm chatting shit, I hardly see any actual defense other then "nope xbox is fine" or "soon xbox will have so many games". I guess if you're just willing to accept anything.

They don't really care if Gamepass has multiple games with MC scores in the 80+ or 90 + range. Casuals care about value and games they want to play(sports games). I bet when Madden 21, MLB 21, UFC 21 and FIFA 21 are released on Gamepass ultimate/EA Access in a month or two those will sell more subscriptions and consoles for Xbox then demon's Soul does for PS5. I see EA sports games driving subscriptions so high from the February(Madden games usually release on EA access around superbowl time) to September period. People will be going to back to work and have money again to spend on a new console or subcription. and Gamepass will be available to a billion more people with IOS in the spring. Also consoles will be restocked.

I have both systems. I play XSX more since December with Call of the Sea and Hivebusters. With the Medium coming out this month, that trend will continue. PS5 only has Returnal coming out in March, and no solid release dates for anything else. XSX will get stronger with time, as the studio acquistions start pushing out games on what has potential be, more capable hardware. At the end of the day, this doesnt mean PS5 is inferior, PS5 will continue to be an amazing system but not as dominant over XSX as it was initially led to believe.
thats gonna happen...in a alternate dimension, not this one

I guess I don't really know. I had an Xbox back in the day for Halo mostly(though MechAssault I feel is so underrated) and honestly the Team Ninja games. The 360 in the early years was such an amazing console, Lost Odyssey, Gears, and so on. So many games. With the PS4 and Xbox One, it was clear the PS4 was the better choice. But I got an Xbox because I wanted to play Halo 5 and other exclusives like Quantum Break and Sunset Overdrive. I thought Overdrive and Halo 5 were pretty mediocre, but Quantum Break is a good game.

But after those the Xbox was pretty meh to me. Exclusives like Recore were just obviously not punching in the same weight class as whatever Sony was producing. I'm not into racing games so Forza is whatever to me. I got a One X because I could get it for chief and thought it would be my third party machine, but honestly I don't think I ever got much use out of it beyond Red Dead and Gears 5. The Pro ran games just as fine and most games I played in the 2nd half of the pervious gen were not on Xbox.

I have a Series X because my girlfriend likes Xbox and we did two orders for one just in case one fell through. Her's did'nt and I decided to just keep the xbox. Simply to just be in the eco-system if something drops I want. I mean I was able to get $250 for my One X, so not that bad a price to pay to just be ready in case MS releases anything I care about or if this "most powerful console ever" translates to better third party games.

Fair play. I actually love Gran Turismo myself (4, 5 & 6), but the GT games featured on that list all came out between 20 and 23 years ago.

I should have said, the highest rated modern day racers, not all time.

Also... why do the below games dominate Metacritic’s top 10 racing games of all time?

Yeah it’s obvious because like I can take a screenshot on my Xbox and see it on my phone, I can see my achievements on PC, and play years old games on my new console.

What a great article.

I'm feeling some second hand embarrassment for anyone trying to put Xbox first party up there with Sony

Sony have released a game, sometimes multiple, in GOTY contention every year (except 2014) since 2013. And outright won the consensus pick 5 times this gen

Its not a comparison, its a slaughter

Depends on what game you want lol. 3rd party games will look next to identical. You can always check out digital foundry if your looking to nitpick, but overall should be very similar. Depending on the developer, ps5 may look better or series x. So the 3rd party stuff I’m not worrying about. But it comes down to what games you want. I mean we all know this right?

Sure which is great for the choice of releasing the $399 PS5 Digital Edition for Sony. On a personal level, if both XSX and PS5 versions perform similarly and the PS5 version has decent Dual Sense support it could be a tie breaker for multi platform games too.

Well I just played MCC since November, I did read about the issues. Sounds like a train wreck. I loved to replay Halo 3 on it though, and ODST and Reach were first time for me and solid games. Halo 5 is a piece of shit. Halo 4 too. I actually beat Halo 5 today, lol.

Sea of Thieves is pretty fun, but repetitive. I do play it with a few friends for a few hours a week. Just sailing, destroying other ships and stealing loot. The sailing is pretty fun, with one guy steering and the other giving directions and another prepping the cannons etc. But all you do is sail, dig treasure, and troll others. Its fun with a group of 4, just to do dumb shit.

Doom Eternal sucks ass. Agree.

Double Fine, I don't like them either. I hated Broken Age. I couldn't get into it.

Fable dunno. I love Forza Horizon 4 , but this says nothing about Fable.

MS first party is weak, its not really varied. And they had no game at launch. If GP wasn't there, I wouldn't have bought an Xbox at all. I simply bought it for the good deal and play with some friends who also have it. Its going to take years for Bethesda to release their stuff anyway. Even Deathloop and Ghostwire are still timed PS exclusives. The strength of Xbox is GP, and BC. Its the only way for me to play Ninja Gaiden 2 perfectly for example. I like that. There is also a great but overlooked Mirrors Edge remaster on there.

Look at it this way - if you get the Series X at the end of this generation and then sub for 1 month of GP, you will have access to the entire library of XBox's first party releases this entire gen. So yes, you will get a lot of value with the Series X if you wait....long-term.

Games from MS are not rotating?

I kind of agree. I planned to start with the Series X this gen mostly because of the promise of Gamepass. I ultimately ended up going with a PS5 because it feels so far ahead at the moment, but MS will likely update their OS soon and I’d bet on a new controller coming sometime this gen too. Take away those two things, and Gamepass again looks to be the biggest differentiator.

I'm having a tough time believing this is a general opinion piece without influence from MS. Maybe it is, and maybe it is not. Impossible for me to say. But what I can say is that I find it incredible for a journalist to be suggesting Series X is looking more and more like the best long term choice compared to two months ago. Did MS stealth drop a bunch of first party exclusives recently? Cause from my vantage point the two consoles are in the same exact spot as two months ago. Only difference is one has become easier to obtain from what I hear.

Yep, I own both but now that I'm done with Demon's Souls it's been all XSX and Game Pass. Hopefully The Ascent and The Medium are good. Idk what I care for next on PS5. Seems like it will be awhile before I turn it on again.
