I don't necessarily have an opinion about the quality of Spencer as a manager, I think the latest moves Microsoft has made have been very questionable, but I don't know if that is due to Spencer's management, decrees from the higher ups at MS proper, or complications due to Covid.

I will say though, that a front figure and executive blocking a outspoken personality and person of some influence in the video game industry just because he got some criticism from said person is a very juvenile move that doesn't exactly help instill confidence in his management.

I don't think that's their strategy, and I believe you're kind of missing the point.

Sure this is a new console launch, and sure they wanted a couple things with it, but at the same time their platform is just a rolling release now. It doesn't need a particular game to accompany the hardware, this is a quality of life improvement and keeping the ball rolling. It's like building a new PC, that's not some kind of event that begs brand new games, new hardware comes out and the party just keeps on rolling and software as it always does follows in its wake.

Games don't ever stop coming out, there's things to play, there's things coming to play and there will be thousands more. Hell most people haven't even cleared their PS4 and Xbox One backlogs. I'm playing Titanfall 2 and Mortal Kombat 11 right now.

How did a game like Crackdown 3 ever ship? Why did they fail to create any gaming franchise the last generation? As someone who loves the Gears franchise, Gears 5 was almost as bad as Gears Judgment. Dave really can be an asshole, but he has some major points. They did the same thing last generation. Sure having Kinect was dumb, but the only thing more stupid is not having a game to sell Kinect when its adding $100 more to your console cost.

They designed the series X years ago. How fucking hard is it to say hey, we need games to really show off what this thing can do when it releases. It's great they want to give Studios freedom to be creative. But they need that role player who can make a good game that looks great and deliver it when it's needed.

That's said I don't think missing the launch is a deal-breaker. Right now there's enough momentum to carry these consoles through the holiday regardless of what's on them. But they sure need something leading into next summer and the holidays.

Ryse: Son of Rome was initially a Kinect game. After the reveal of the game there was a backlash about the Kinect controls and Crytek decided to redo the whole thing. I read somewhere it was hell because they had only a few months for the control design, since it was a launch game for Xbox One.
