SkillUp - two next-gen consoles releasing next month, but only one next gen controller. The #DualSense

bender

What time is it?
The problem with unique controller options is getting 3rd party (most games) to utilize the features. See things like HD Rumble (Switch), Touchpad and Speaker (PS4).

To be honest, every video I have watched this afternoon has had incredibly positive things to say about the controller.

I don’t normally get excited by haptics, but I am slightly intrigued to see what all the fuss is about.

Yet another clear win for Sony it seems.

The tension thing sounds like another point for failure, so I hope it can take more pressure than the pathetic sticks of the DS4 that die out for me and many others who play FPS games after a year of use.

With any luck I can finally retire my 360 controller as my PC controller. Not sure why I never used my X1 controller (yes I do, the 360 was already plugged in and worked). But with PS4 (and I assume) PS5 games starting to come to PC that will work less and less. Plus after a decade its time to retire it.

Yeah that was the most interesting bit, a sony controller finally being on the same level of xbox controllers.
Hopefully the rubber in the sticks is not gonna melt after a while once again.

DS4 is great controller + majority of people prefer symmetrical stick placement.

And DS4 quality is also good, even my launch controller pair from 2013 worked perfectly after +6000h of gaming, rubber surface were only little bit "polished".

I just dont believe there were real problems other than people whom play like apes. :messenger_savoring: (many claimed all launch controllers were bad, which clearly isnt the case)

Only cases I have seen irl were NHL/CoD gamers, whom almost always have anger management issues and they smashed their controllers, used lot of force(things dont happen any faster with using fuck tons of force vs using tiny amount of precise force) and did some weird shit like pushing sticks with fingernails = same as using knife basically.

Maybe dualsense is more idiot proof then, because there are always people whom have really bad motoric control and they would kill a dog/cat by petting them because they dont know how to be sensitive.

I have seen even gamecube and ps2 sticks raped by some mad gamers, so there is always user error to be considered.

Now if they would break in normal gaming(precise + only necessary force used) that would be different case.

But all cant be calm minded always I guess

i guess quality is in the hand of the holder, for me the feeling was of a cheap and small controller with a lot of shitty gimmicks and a ridicolous battery life, not even close to x360\xone controllers quality, i have a strong firm grip so maybe that's my problem but not everyone has a weak grip, humans descended from apes after all :lollipop_grinning_sweat:
Yeah the rubber thing was maybe exagerated, but i returned my ps4 pro to gamestop for a discount on a ps5 and they didn't wanted 2 of my 3 controllers (i bought the bundle with kz4 and 2 controllers, before you ask) because the rubber on the stick was starting to peel off, so this imaginary problem costed me 32 euros already...ask me how many sticks i ruined in any xbox controller that i possesed...a resounding zero.

Certainly seems Sony have put a lot more effort into the controller than MS have. Dualsense seems to he getting good reviews, and no cries and claims of fanboyism is changing that
Not necessarily a fair take.

It was for the XBox One that Microaoft spent over $100 million to develop what many feel is the best controller ever made. If it aint broke, don't fix it. There are some small tweaks, but not many changes to a great controller.

With Sony, little had changed to the DualShock for multiple generations. They took user feedback and development time to produce the DualSense. It looks good. I'm curious to check it out.

Many feels that for Dualshock 4 too.. Shoulder buttons are crap on X1 gamepad ( since XSX gamepad is even smaller, i presume it's worse ). And also i didn't liked the D-pad on X1 gamepad.

I think MS deserves some praise for allowing the old controller to also work with the new console (and vice versa). It’s nice to know I can keep using all the controllers I already have. And I bet it’s even more appreciated by people who spent more money on elite and design lab controllers.
Praise for what? More of the same? After all the Praise the dual sense its getting, ms desition looks lame and lazy

i'm sorry lol i just want a controller to be a controller. i don't need 500 gimmicks built in. I'll be willing to give it a shot and see how it works in demons souls/spiderman/sack boy. but i seriously doubt it will make those games feel more "NEXT GENNNN" lol clickbait for sure.
I think the "next gen" controller means that it have innovation in it, ready for new things. It doesn't mean automatic advantage. Just like it console counterpart

ACG said something similar on his video today and so help me god that guy is the only reviewer i trust. So there has to be some truth to it.

Yeah, at first I was disappointed the DS4 would only work for PS4 games on the PS5 because I love the back button attachment. But once more and more you began to understand how the devs are getting behind it and with today’s feedback makes it almost certain it’s a great decision by them. I just want a DualSense back button ASAP though.

Has anyone touched the new Xbox controller? We haven’t heard a thing about it yet
If you haven't seen anyone with the controller that is on you. LTT literally did a full video the controllers. It's basically just an Xbox One controller, maybe a little worse or better depending on preference.

People always talked about how Sony just plays safe....controller was always just a copy from others.

Now, they really have a hit at their hands....but, oh right, concerns and doubts.

Isn't it just a Switch pro controller with more precision?

Opinions are nice I guess? I will have a Dualsense and Elite Series 2 controller so I'll be curious which one feels better, but Xbox has been miles ahead since the 360 controller IMO.

Honestly the Xbox one controllers felt far too small to me, especially the analog sticks, Sadly my windows controller died a few years back so I can't directly compare but its never been comfortable with me like the 360 always was.

The Duelshock 4 on the otherhand I can't complain about, the fact it also recharges without the addition of a sperate battery pack while still being cheaper than the one controller on its own has always been a huge plus too.

I did want to give the elite controller a go but heard it had major drift issues that have also cropped up on the V2 model as well so I have held back.

In 2020 we have really reached peak contemptuous ad hominem.

Anytime anyone, in any field expresses a personal opinion / belief, people immediately commence accusing said person of being a fanboy, a hater, a paid shill or Russian agent without a shred of conclusive evidence. That is to say evidence that must, as a matter of law, be taken to establish some fact in issue and that cannot be disputed.

Just because you say “person x prefers system x over system y, I can tell because I watch their content and they gush over system x etc.” doesn’t mean it’s so. That’s not conclusive evidence, and can just be your interpretation.

Isn’t it better to just hear what person x is saying and either agree or disagree (and in this case, none of us know if a DS5 is good or not)?

Their opinion doesn’t mean “paid shill / fanboy”

Honestly, I think the people accusing of “fanboyism” are the real fanboys. Seriously, grow up and get a little perspective. You’re talking about multinational corporations and you are siding with one against another? These products should never be your identity, and you should never feel the need to defend them. They put millions into creating an image for people to identify with; so many are falling for it.

If you are, I would suggest you reorder your life.

Get invited by Sony to make impression video = desperate
This is not what I was responding to, stop the personal attacks and respond to the argument (MS's controllers have been more or less the same since the OG xbox, even the it had the same layout as the DualShock, with a crappy dpad and they moved the left stick around.

Ive never used my old controller with my new systems ?
The new controller works with the old games and new ones.

Maybe I should write /s ?

I dont think SkillUp is desperate and there is no controversy. It seems DualSense >> DS4 therefore fitted to be called a different/next generation. I don't know how different are on the Xbox side
