For the first time ever, I am actually considering buying an Xbox over Playstation 5

Or get both.

Have my Xbox pre-ordered through MS.

Have one PS5 through Walmart and another through Amazon (which I don't expect to get).

I’ll probably grab an S just for BC, maybe Gamepass. There’s a few old games I never finished: Alan Wake, Sunset Overdrive, a few others.

This is coming from someone who has an amazing PC build with a 2080ti Card too.

One might think you already have an Xbox in your PC anyway since all games will be on both systems day one.

But I am just finding the Xbox is making more sense to me to be under the 60 inch TV since my gaming setup is not close to the living room.

Without Bethesda, I would never actually thought of the Xbox due to its lack of first-party games. The PS5 made more sense ( and still logically makes more sense )

But few things are actually getting off-putting to me with the PlayStation 5 I am really not sure anymore if I should be buying the Playstation day 1 at least ( mind you I have 2 PS5 and 2 XSX preorders just in case one got canned )

1- PS5 Design. like wtf its really huge and ugly. I need a new table just for this stupid thing.
2- Sony Censorship in Japanese games. I feel like I am going back to the ice age with this. like, might as well dress all the girls like nuns or hijab clothes and call it a day how is that? Not against any religion but don't censor my games the way the Devs wanted their vision in the game.
3- Naughty Dog pushing agenda in their games. Normally I do not like any of the sides. to me being in the middle is and always is the right thing to do. but they are pushing too extreme to one side its making me sick. and while I normally don't care, Sony is being silent on this is making me angry about it too.
4- by default its weaker system. God knows how much it will be weaker in terms of actual games is yet to be seen.
5- Sony stands against the upgrades to games you already own. You want me to buy an 80$ game to get updated graphics for a game I already own? how is that fair or even common sense when both Xbox and especially PC friggin free?
6- No game pass option. while this is a gray area for me and usually I do buy the games I want, There are many games I actually want to try and play but I can't justify paying 100$ Canadian to play them. this is where the game pass makes sense to me. Those games I will play now and then but I do not care to buy them.

There is also the fact Sony is also at one point are starting to release their games on PC. sure not all of them and not the same year or day one. but I feel like they are coming. I did not add this as a point because nothing is confirmed.

All these points makes me wonder if I really should grab a PS5 for the 2 or 3 exclusive games they release per year ( 4 if we are lucky )

I still think the PS5 is a must. but Fuck Sony needs to act right and fast.

Older games are often 5-15€ on sale, I can get 10 - 30 games / year with the price of game pass. And own them.

It's not so epic.

With GP you pay for it + ALL games that you want to play but they dont come into the pass or left already.

Power difference is tiny, talent of devs matter more and PS5 devs dont have to care about slow ass PCs or series s

Nobody forces you to pay 80$ on launch, bad argument. Just wait until it os cheaper

Just get some streaming thingy to stream PC to living room tv and get PS5 = you get all from both sides

I feel MS is on the up right now. Bethesda is a huge deal. How many Sony fans will buy a Series S/X to play Elder Scrolls 6 or the next Doom if they're not released on PS5?

And if both came to Game Pass on release date, how many will subscribe to the service? Elder Scrolls will be a huge offline game with online potentials and Doom is a big multiplayer game so lots of variations to suit everyone.

Went PS4 - One X. Wanted to go back to PS5 because there are a bunch of games I want to play and I don’t want to use my base PS4...but I just don’t like what Sony are selling compared to MS. I’ll get one later...maybe.

The power gap is far less than PS4 vs Xbone was at the start of this gen, and WAY less than than the difference between PS4 pro and Xbox one x. A lot of you guys are going to be really disappointed when there are negligible differences between third party games on ps5 and series x, aside from ps5 loading everything faster.

I know your feeling. It’s going to be my first Xbox ever. I started on PlayStation with the PlayStation 2. With PlayStation 1 I couldn’t do anything as I had a beautiful PC were I was spending all my time.

the Xbox has the GamePass, and that’s the game changer for me. PlayStation 5 has the first party games, but I can wait for them to be even on platinum and spent a third of what it cost at time of the release.

OP, here's what I'm doing. I'm awesome so you do it too.

Wait till early 2021 to decide. Let the pre orders and scalper craziness subside and allow MS and Sony to paint a clearer picture of their 2021 lineup for you.

I'm leaning PS5 but don't feel a strong urge to buy one based on their launch lineup.

You are wrong.
The power Gap between PS4 and OG XB1 is 500 Giga Flops.
The Power Gap between XSX and PS5 is 1.8 Tera Flops if PS5 sustains its clocks which we already know it won't so it's more than likely a 2+ Tera Flop difference. That is all without taking into consideration the myriad of RDNA2 Architectural improvements over GCN.

Go with your heart and gut! I am getting everything and have literally no time to play anything lol 🤣🙄😱😩 with 2 babies under 2...it's getting easier/better, however, they're starting to sleep through the night...idk why I am sharing this but I do miss my all nighters and carefree gaming sessions but I wouldn't trade this for anything...random splewing over

If the PS5 is a must then all your reasons are invalid. I agree though, it's a must which is why I'm Day 1ing it. Xbox still has yet to give me a MUST type of reason. When it does, I'll buy one.

Do it.

If I didn't own hundreds of games on the PS ecosystem and have a long history with it, I'd switch over, too. But instead I'll probably just get an xbox down the line and a PS5 near launch. I have a One and I hardly use it even with an active GP ultimate sub, I've had one since it launched and it's good until the end of next year. Playstation exclusives are still the shit though, where as Xbox only has Halo in terms of my something I actually enjoy, even though 4 and 5 were garbage.

You have GamePass option sans first party day one in form of PS Now. It's cheaper too, otherwise, I kind of agree with a lot of stuff. Maybe power, we don't know how that's going to work so far. Like system comparison, you know.
True it's all about how much you value first party on each if you're into the services. Now if I were to get Xbox I would just buy used games on the few first party games I want and leave it at that but most people who want xbox seem to get it for the service at this point

Not quite sure where you come up with this stuff and state it as fact but it's unfortunate that people will read it and actually believe it. I think you'll be very, very surprised at the third party performance discrepancy, especially mid-gen. First party is a no brainer, PlayStation Exclusives will be unmatched visually.

I understand your decision, but I still haven’t seen how the XSX is more powerful than the PS5. It will probably be a microscopic power difference visually I feel like the One X and the PS4 Pro.

I think both console’s designs are fine, but aesthetics are different to everyone.

Unfortunately, most Western developers now seem to be pushing an agenda or “woke”. I don’t know if Microsoft is any better with games like Tell Me Why.

Gamepass is a nice feature, but I’m assuming that Sony will find some type of way to improve PSNow to try to make it more comparable to Gamepass.

Sony’s censorship policy is crazy because it’s inconsistent. Western games can have full frontal nudity, but a cartoon female in a sexy costume can be problematic. Question I wonder is, what’s Microsoft’s policy on censorship? I think they censored games before as well, but I’m not sure.

I agree with every point you listed, though the power difference is not large enough to matter.
The naughty dog issue is something that is only going to bite them in the ass if Sony do not intervene.

The look of the design is understandable, though overall not important, do you game or just look at it?

Microsoft have a very compelling package this time around and it's no wonder you are considering this, I might snag an S after a price cut in the future.

eedit: nvm about the S, just remembered it's digital only.

1. You are right, it is huge and ugly
2. Getting heavy weeb vibe here
3. Are they though?
4. With what we know, this is right
5. I don't get how this matters to you given that you had the money to preorder 4 consoles at launch. Why not just buy the next gen version. They already said you can play PS4 games on ps5. I was under the impression ps5 would just run ps4 games in ps4pro boost mode anyway.
6. PSNow? They definitely haven't committed to day 1 releases on it, but they have like 800 titles for $10/month where as game pass has 200 for $15/month.

Results say..... Buy an Xbox. Can't really go wrong on this unless you convince yourself you made the wrong decision.

Always get both. The only decision is on timing, and it makes more sense (to me) to get Series X first if you can only afford one.

Sony’s five worthwhile exclusives over the course of the generation will be spread out over about seven years.

Xbox series S and game pass for 180$ a year is such a great value. Especially considering you get stuff like Halo infinite on launch day.

however...

PS4 dropped so many bangers like bloodborne, horizon zero dawn, god of war, and more that PS5s library is near impossible to topple. Only natural To assume all the sequels will be nothing but quality on PS5.

if microsoft dropped some bombs of their own, they could win this gen, but it looks like they are only doing halo, gears, forza, aka sticking to their guns.

I’m getting both. I’m gonna get the XSX when this whole launch hype dies down. Probably beginning of the year and I’ll get the PS5 holiday 21. Nothing really rushing me. TBH that Sony first party thread showed I’m not really excited for the near future of their FPgames. There’s not much there for me. But damn I won’t miss ragnarok

"It looks like they are only doing Halo, Gears, Forza, aka sticking to their guns". Excuse you but what? Even before the Bethesda purchase, this narrative did!n't make sense. However, after the Bethesda purchase? It would be insane to suggest that.

There is only one reason I'd ever get an Xbox. If somehow they managed to buy Naughty Dog, and the only way to play The Last of Us III or Uncharted 5 was on their machine. I do agree about PS5 being ugly as fuck though. At least it looks like we'll be able to switch those stupid white skins to black eventually (worst case there are always 3rd party decals).

Right... you forgot about the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X there is what 2tf? 4.2 vs 6 i think. If you view it with % there is less difference with next gen but we will see when next gen begins but now I think between the Pro and X is around there 2TF.

I'm right with you. Thinking about cancelling my PS5 pre-order as I was going to get both. I just hate the direction Jim Ryan is taking Playstation in. Now, there's no doubt about it that the studio's come out with some really nice games and exclusives at that. However, I think Xbox has a solid future no matter how much FUD we see or hear. It's going to be good.

It's a bit stupid but I legit sold my PS4 over all the intrusive BLM advertisements when I just wanted to game.

PlayStation had BLM ads WTF?!?!?

To the OP - you should buy the system you want to buy. It is as simple as that.

However, on your point 'weaker system'. Just wait and see...MS has overplayed their hand on that 'most powerful' message.

Truthfully man? I dont think you're going to miss those PS exclusives as much as you think, especially with Sony eyeing PC as a way of diversifying their market base.

I had everything 6th gen, ps3 and Wii for 7th gen, and then everything again 8th gen with the addition of a PC and whatever you wanna count Switch/Wii U as. I sold the PS4, Wii u, and Switch, and kept my Xbox one - even bought a 360 for fun. I now regret not sticking with them since their inception. Ps3 was kinda whack.

I miss Nintendo more than I miss Sony ultimately. I'm just waiting for Switch emulation to be fully caught up and I'll get to play those also.

Pc and Xbox go together very well and it's fun to have everything wrapped up in a neat ecosystem. A lot of titles which didnt make it to Xbox One hit PC day one, and more Sony games are coming than PS fans want to admit for some reason.

Plus, you get to play with a perfect controller. you cant beat that

I have PC and Xbox and I have too much to play

And yes, the PS5 is ugly as sin. We all need to start being honest about that. It’s like that dogfaced baby proud parents show you and you put on your shit eating grin and say it looks like an angel (turd). That’s an issue too, since I don’t want junky designs clashing with my decor.

I totally agree, but I love the way you described. You really make me laugh because it's so true.

I went with both because each company gave me a reason to buy their console. I dislike the censorship happening with Japanese games lately, like Persona 5 Royal was ridiculous, but Sony first party and exclusives always have a solid line up all gen. I was never a fan of most Microsoft first party + exclusives but Microsoft seem to be pretty damn serious these days about making sure that Xbox is the place to be for gaming and have earned a purchase day 1 from me as I am looking forward to game-pass, older games being enhanced to take advantage of the newer faster hardware and of course the recent purchase of ZeniMax/Bethesda has my full attention.

Going green never felt better, but going blue will always be a solid choice.

If you're going to ignore a generation in which we've had classic after classic on PS4 and absolute dross on Xbox One , do you. Game pass is only as good as the games on it.

Yeah, with 23 studios some with multiple dev teams working on entirely seperate games, Xbox will only have halo, gears, forza. So may people in this thread desperately shilling to sell PS5s.

To all the people switching to Xbox, welcome to the NEW home for the best games.

Like, who are you trying to convince?

So you would choose a system with no first party titles in the first year? Yeah okay...

I hope yall getting paid well.

Do whatever you want OP, its your money and your entertainment. There is no wrong answer!

Can't say I agree with your rationale though. You got a PC so what in the way of exclusives is going Xbox going to get you? The plain fact is that PS is going to have more stuff that you won't be able to get on another platform, same deal with Nintendo.

Cost of upgrade is on the developer/publisher. If its a significant amount of work, then they'll probably charge for it! Because people tend to expect to be paid for their labor. Counting on it is unwise.

As to the GamePass thing. Sure its a good deal, can't say anything against it apart from that its dead money. You stop paying, and it goes away. So it kinda depends on what sort of player you are, its value is entirely down to how many games you play in a month. For me, If its a game I like I'll usually put at least a couple of weeks into it. So for me having the choice, really isn't that big of a draw. Especially knowing that I'd likely end up wasting time trying stuff that I'd otherwise pass on.

I never agreed with the sentiment that MS has no first party games. Frist off, it is a blatant lie. Second, their first party games are actually games. You can play Halo for thousands of hours and there is depth to the mechanics. Same for Forza, same for Gears. Sea of Thieves, thousands of hours of gameplay. State of Decay - complex zombie game that is almost a simulator in its detail. Sony has nothing really comparable to these games, it is all flash over substance there with the exception of Demon's Souls/Bloodborne.
Sorry, but i don't believe your voost. Warhawk was undeniably the best multiplayer game. And uncharted 2 before they fucked it up was better than gears in overall tps gameplay. Now excuse me while i serve you

1. I wanna pick out the hypocrisy of points 2/3. What you are saying is that you only want certain devs who may have visions that align with yours to have the freedom to release games without censorship? You can have it both ways.

When it comes to the general topic however...
I wouldn’t fault anybody for that decision really at this point. I’m not really super excited for either console right now.

There really isn’t a lot of worthwhile games this fall that can’t be played on current consoles on both sides of the fence. Have Microsoft announced their launch lineup yet?

I’m much more of a PlayStation guy overall, and I own a pc that while not very powerful (3600/580 8gb)can still hold its own especially in the Xbox exclusives department. But I also can’t deny that the Xbox brand has a lot of value.
