Microsoft are going to announce The Acquisition of SEGA next Wednesday (Believe!)

Well, they did try in the past, but it didn't go through. So it wasn't a rumor, it was something that could have happened but didn't. So not entirely a rumor. Just something that didn't happen.

ps: Funny to read this article and spot speculation about "Xbox 720". Time flies. damn. lol
I remember that. Things would've been a lot different if Microsoft actually bought Sega back then. Like would Atlus and Sega still be under the same roof. Was this also before the Sega|Sammy merger? I also remember seeing Xbox720 logo mockups. People probably thought Xbox720 was a good name.

I am so fucking happy and relieved. I want SEGA to be free. The only person i trust to be the leader of SEGA is Nagoshi-San.

Nobody thought MS would spend $7.5b on Zenimax, yet so many people are so quick to say this isn't happening with 100% certainty lol. I'm not saying it is happening, but boy oh boy some of you are just setting yourself up to eat a lot more crow.

SEGA remains, SEGA endures.

Mergers & Acquisitions 101 - There is no way to keep secret an acquisition of a publicly traded company until the day of the actual acquisition. The acquisition needs to be approved by the FTC, the BOD of the company being acquired, and the shareholders at large of said company. If MS were to acquire SEGA, everyone would know about it as soon as they even entered preliminary negotiations. The reason the Bethesda acquisition could be kept a secret was because Zenimax was private. They had no legal obligations to disclose any such information until the day of.

So fake leakers out there - next time you want to make up an acquisition rumor, don't pick a publicly traded company.

Not that I believe the rumors or actually know the rules but there's been major acquisitions of major publicly traded companies that are only known about when both parties agree on a deal after the negotiations. As you said though, it takes a lot of time before they are actually acquired after a deal is agree upon and it won't happen in secret.

It rarely happens where no one knows before the actual agreement, and certainly even more rare for an acquisition of this size. On top of that this would be an American company acquiring a Japanese company. Word would have absolutely gotten out well before the official announcement.
