Amazon Is Sending Mails Telling Consumers They Won't Receive Their PS5 At Promised Date Due High Demand

I believe most of us will receive it Day 1. Amazon is hedging their bets.

If I don't, no big deal. I have years of backlog across PC/Switch/PS4/XB1X. There isn't even a launch game I'm excited about. I won't be paying $70 for Miles Morales. That'll be $30 within 6 months when Spider-Man 2 is released.
I have 380+ games spread between epic, steam, ea that i bought at one point in time are sitting in my libraries so if amazon was to cancel it would be perfectly fine. Plus I also bought 2 from walmart 😋😋😋😋. I skipped this generation up until like 6, months ago and only got into it because I got a ps4 for free. I only bought the ps5's because I made some extra cash on stocks and I figured why not. I was planning on giving my bro 1 and my nephew.

I placed an order through Sony just after this Amazon email. I will cancel my Amazon order close to release if Sony appears ok.

What time is it?
Dont understand how a site like amazon cant add a quantity to their database and only allow as many preorders as allocation. Sounds crazy right.

The pre-order links leaked before the store pages for the products even went up.

That Benji dude on twitter that works for Target also said it is looking like he may not get his console from Target...

Mine's expected to arrive Nov 26th, but knowing Amazon Brazil's efficiency, I'm pretty sure I'll get it on the 19th.

Maybe the rumor of sony having to cut chips was true and their allotment of consoles is significantly smaller than it should be

I'm hoping this is just pre-caution. Surely they should have had a system in place? Is it going to be like the RTX 3080 where there's no limit to how many you can purchase and they can all bought up by bots?

I think when you've got mass quantities being sold in the matter of seconds, that's when its an issue. Because at 16:01:01 you have 5000 and at 16:01:05 you just let 15000 preorders in, your system gets bogged down. Especially on an internet platform instead of in-person.

That rumor also stated that they would release 11 million consoles by March 2021. Which means they should have plenty of stock for this year. Which leads to this being a problem caused by extremely high demand.

But then again Sony released that Sony so who really knows what's true?

It sucks I hope it's not a large delay. I need to finish up ff7 remake, start ghost of sushi, demon souls and get back to monster Hunter.

And we still get threads every generation asking why Sony aren't promoting their new generation console as much as the poster would like. I give the same answer every generation. Think like a business, not like a gamer.

I stood in line for an N64. I think of myself as a hard liner but for some reason I just don't give a fuck about getting these machines at launch.

They'll be so much more readily available when they start getting some actual good games out.

Well, that 11m is by March 2021.

I'd think the launch date will be above the PS4 launch which was just under 1.2m. So conservatively I'd say 2m at launch. The reason being is that Sony/MS like last launch start stockpiling units for the holiday period. It's not a good look for Christmas season to come around and you've been sending all stock immediately to retailers and letting it sell out. For example, GameStop and BestBuy had 1m units each sent to them two weeks before Christmas. That level of stockpile at launch production levels means you're talking 30-45 days worth of stockpiling instead of releasing to retailers.

So I'd guess 2-2.5m at launch night, 0.5-1m in the following two weeks and then no units until two weeks before Christmas. Before the final rush of units go out weekly starting Jan 1. Also, tax season in the US is a real financial window that manufacturers aim for in terms of increased stock for in-demand products so that "by March 2021" date will see a stockpile being released near mid-Feb.

Seems like they sold more consoles than they had available. I wonder who gets the short straw in these cases?

I am one of the unlucky one who has yet to get one. I would gladly take a pre-order from anywhere even if it was late.

Really doesn't sound like this situation is being caused by poor yields. It's most likely due to the demand more than anything.

Can you still walk into Walmart on the 22nd and place an in-store pre-order for the PS5? If so, I might do that. I have an Amazon pre-order for the physical PS5, but I too received the fateful e-mail.

Don’t really understand why you say that? It’s much more likely that Amazon had an allocation that was subsequently reduced for some reason, than they forgot how to do retail and significantly oversold beyond what they were told they were getting...

Of course we don’t actually know anything, but I know which seems more likely to me?

Sony did say they didn't make changes to the production. So why would the allocation have been changed?

What I have heard is there might be problems with shipping though.

I mean, I’m not in manufacturing, but if they are losing 50% as rumoured (or more) due to bad yields and having to throw them away I imagine that wouldn’t make liars out of them if they said they didn’t change the order number?

So even if the yields are bad they are still getting the same number of units.

So why would that change the allocation?

Physical stores.... go there, get to know the people who work behind the counter. Nothing beats it.
I had my PS5 guaranteed since July 2019, not a joke. I know a lot of stores have gone online only for this stuff but I still feel the old way is best and stopped scalping on such a large scale with bots etc.

Anyway, hopefully Sony step up and get production above current targets.

People are suffering from a real crisis here, and you'd rather make jokes.

Didn't say poor yields. It's simply stock of finished consoles. Even now, they are working very hard to have 2-2.5m (in my guess) ready by launch. This is a massive undertaking regularly. Covid only further complicates supply chain.

Not worried at all, this is why you have to pre-order from multiple places.

My guess is maybe sony give amazon the heads up that they might not get as many shipments as they thought

At the end of the day, If i get the console anytime in 2020 I will be a happy man. Amazon does not charge you until the console ships so thats the great thing about ordering from amazon. I would be pissed if this happened with Target or best buy because they charge you right away for pre-orders.

Amazon always do this. You'd have to be a clown to pre-order a PS5 with them and expect them to deliver it day one. They rarely deliver games on time. They're unreliable. If you want a reliable service for consoles, use a company whose bread and butter is actually video games i.e. gamestop, GAME, Shopto, thegamecollection, etc.

I've never had a bad experience with getting consoles or games on launch day with amazon.

I’ve never preordered a console before. I did get a Wii day 1, that morning I looked at my wife and said “Let’s go to Circuit City and see if we can grab one...”. We got in a shortish line that continued to grow and eventually a CC employee came out with vouchers and we got the second to last one. Was quite fun tbh. I did purchase a GC, GB SP, DS and 3DS near launch and a PS4 around 6 months in and the PS4 Pro launch weekend but never felt compelled to preorder.

This time is different due to CP77, as a console gamer I’d like to play it in the best possible fashion on my first console of choice this gen and went through the rigmarole to make that happen. Luckily I was successful at BB even if Amazon was my preferred first choice, perhaps that was a good thing? As I don’t feel any of the launch games are must plays day 1 (esp at $70) I won’t be too gutted if there is an issue.

What a clusterfuck this has been, I’m torn on who to blame: Trump or Obama 🤔

Side note: I wanted to buy a TOOL poster for my wife as she loved the design. The artist gave notice that he would be releasing “limited quantities” on a specific date. As this was the most desirable poster from their last tour (different artists and designs each show)resale values were absolutely ridiculous, $60 posters obtained at the show were going for upwards of $500 and the even more limited signed posters ($300 at show) were going for $1200-1500 in the resale market. I said fuck it and gave it a whirl. The website was slammed and within seconds all inventory was gone at $375/750 for unsigned/signed. I managed to get one in the cart but it was erroring out, I decide to try to keep pushing it through. After about 30 mins I was able to pay and received the confirmation email. Poster arrived about 3 weeks later. Since BB was acting VERY similar I kept at it. 🤞

This isn't true at all. I preorder 20+ games a a year from Amazon and I've only had 2 games not come on release in the last few years.
