At this point all the damage xbox fans are getting its done bye themselves, doent expect anything its better that way

It's about keeping the hope alive... anything positive to create buzz and mindshare even if it doesn't turn out true. Any press is a good press mantra. Catching that news cycle.

Desperate times require desperate measures.

Did people really believe the company which introduced Pay to Play online and F2P's, betas and demos behind a paywall would drop online play, when their push right now is services? Even Phil said a few hours before that, it was not happening, they have no plans to let go of Gold and people still thought this was a permanent solution for MS? MS is already losing money on first party software, they are losing money on gamepass with the $1+2 subs, there is no way MS frees up GOLD......If they did that, it would be a quicker means to put XBOX under than any I've seen. They are not making enough revenue on gamepass, nor first party and now by their own hand free up gold.....It seems some of XBOX's biggest fans want them to go under more than anybody else........There is no way freeing up gold is MS's best solution to improve fortunes for XBOX......They know what they have to do and it's not that, it's the elephant in the room...

😢

If anything it’s the usual anti-Xbox crowd hyping stuff up without any evidence just so they can troll Xbox fans and make them look bad as per usual.

I mean, there’s a reason you’ve been warned for trolling Xbox thy reads and surprise surprise, here you are to get your little dig in.

Also, this doesn’t explain why people were able to play games free outside of this list and those who are getting Gamepass for free too without subscribing.

Who said anything about "playing games free outside the list"?
People in here were talking about playing the multiplayer of games they own for free.
And the listed games are playable over the weekend even if you don't own them.

Look, there was always a chance. MS have invented new ways to keep gamers paying with gamepass, together with the advent of Games as a Service - yet another revenue stream. So you may want to break down the barrier of entry; the equation could have tilted towards more out the other end, especially if you can get more coming into your eco system.

It certainly peaked my interest, I cannot lie.

Monthly? I payed like $300 for Windows 10 pro, that isn't monthly, that is forever.
That much, I bough copy for 10 bucks and it works. If that's a retail, new non-upgrade then fine, but why tho? Pretty much since XP, MS have in our country OEM version to "legalize" your copy for like 60 bucks. A then through that, you could upgrade to Wind Vista, Win 7, 8 and finally 10. Well I am not sure if XP > Vista worked, I was in the school with MSDNA program, so not sure about that one.

I bought the licence that is linked to my Microsoft account so I can reinstall it on any PC whenever I want.

As I’ve said before, no way they are doing this. They will roll it into GamePass and probably drop basic GamePass to the same prices as Gold. $10 a month, $25 for three, $60 for a year. And then they have the much more expensive GPU that includes Xbox, PC, and xCloud access.

Would love to be proven wrong on this but I just don’t see a company giving up on so much easy revenue. There’s a reason Sony followed suit and even Nintendo.

Just dipping their toes in the water. They're probably experimenting to see what it does to the numbers. This is a huge change for the company and industry and it will come eventually. Expect the final decision to be made soon and news revealed this month.

I mean... they did the same thing two years ago. This isn't the first "Big gaming weekend" and MS still hasn't changed anything.
Maybe change will come one day. But not this month.

They are going to raise the price of Gamepass rather than drop it. No way they drop the price. They just need enough Live users to switch to Gamepass so that they can move the Live sub into Gamepass. MTX makes up a larger percentage of revenue/profit than subs sometimes so f2p games may not need live soon either.

This is a company that removed the one year sub so people pay more for their Xbox live subs . You want them to go free ?
The yearly sub seems isn’t enough for MS and wanted more money.
Yeah I don’t see Xbox live being free

Not gonna lie. Not having to pay to play online makes the Xbox a much more appealing purchase than the modem wrapped by a school binder.

Man, this place is pretty delusional at times. As if a company is going to give away billions in revenue for goodwill. The way some of you guys think...... imagine living that life smh 😅😅🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️.

Depends. What brings in more revenue? Gold subscribers, or, should everyone be able to play online, season passes, microtransactions and DLC?

Do Sony's and MS's cut on games that have online components smaller than games without?

I mean if I'm a publisher whose games are essentially what makes Sony's PS Plus viable, I would demand that they get a smaller cut from my game. I suppose Sony and MS get 30% cut on each game? Is it true even for games with online components?

I think it's only fair if the console owner's cut is smaller for games with online.

I went to bed expecting to see something along these lines today. LOL

They should've just announced this when making the statement about Gold, now a positive thing (free online weekend) will have a negative connotation attached for some (because of their own misguided expectations). But 99% were never following these rumors to begin with, so I guess it doesn't really matter. They need to clean house in the social media department, you've got to see these things coming and nudge the conversation in the right directions as needed.

Well it didn't help that we had so many threads on the subject. It was normal that some were treating this as a confirmation.

This feels like such a tease :pie_roffles:

That said if they do this long-term it might actually make more sense than getting rid of XBL Gold altogether. Just remove the Gold requirement for FTP games, and offer select games on rotation for free online play without needing a subscription.

Sounds like a method that'd make more business sense, too.

It’s already debunked, see on Era.

And Era's a credible source because.....?

Look I don't think they're getting rid of Gold, either. But it's not because "Era said so". Not in the least.

Yeah it's a free weekend on a Wednesday evening....

:messenger_tears_of_joy:
What are prorated refunds...
What are you going to sue them over?

"I just spent money on this service, and post purchase they made said service 100% free"

lol

Where did this guy go? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Except live was always a paid service , while Sony started free ... that’s the difference.

Yeah, they did introduce the LIVE service as a PAID service did they not? So, again, what is the difference? Microsoft also introduced putting F2P games behind a paywall. Sony doesn't do that (at-least not right now anyway.)
