A bit more on the overall plot and direction and some screenshots:

Looks a bit meh technically. CryEngine is a strange choice for a sci-fi closed quarters FPRPG, the setting doesn't allow to demonstrate any of CE's strengths. Something like UE4 would've been a better fit for this game probably.

I have to admit I'm a bit surprised that so many here are seemingly attached to the Prey IP. I thought the original game was alright but nothing special. I don't recall it ever being brought up much on the forum and it didn't seem like it had *that* many fans on here.

I understand the concept footage for Prey 2 looked very compelling. I agree, but it seems most are dismissing this quickly simply because it's not that game. I mean, that was 5-6 years ago. I thought most would just let it go by now.

I think if the trailer was better, people would have more stuff to talk about besides prey 2.

There isnt much to talk about the trailer itself, to be honest. When a half forgotten demo from 6 years ago is more vivid in peoples memories than a bland, pretty forgetable trailer , you know you fucked up.

Well I think it's a number of reasons. The first is that this version of Prey is just using the IP name without being attached to the prior game so it comes off as a cash grab. From everything I've seen or read, there's no solid creative reason they're using the Prey name. The second reason is that this footage compared to the Prey 2 concept footage looks uninspired. Prey 2 was at least trying to do something interesting with the bounty hunter scifi angle while here it looks like a Dishonored/Bioshock game. Three, I think the art direction was better in the concept footage for Prey 2 as it had that sort of Blade Runner feel going for it while the art direction here is again typical. Four, people hold a lot of bad will against Zenimax due to how Zenimax fucked over the actual originators of the IP.

This entire project comes across as an uninspired cashgrab after Zenimax tried a play and it failed.

Pretty much. Nothing I have seen thus far is selling me. Once we get better views of it then things will change.

The Prey IP is in a weird place. Because Bethesda owns the original and this. If say Bethesda didn't own both, but just the physical title. There wouldn't be much talk.
In a sense DmC or Ghostbusters new movie is probably the most comparable thing to this. A vast change that no one was expecting. Regardless of its quality. When you do that, you are gonna have a hurdle . Not everyone is just gonna accept losing what they liked.

This looks bleh. Some wild mix of adrift, Tacoma, Dead Space and System/BioShock. Too derivative.

It's just not grabbing me at all and I personally wasn't grabbed at all by Dishonored either. The mimic mechanics is just the "turning into a rat" mechanic on steroids.

I'm not attached to the IP, I'm just wondering why even call this game Prey as it's obviously not a Prey game. Prey was somewhat of a legendary title and it had some things which made it into a "Prey game". This Prey lacks them all it seems and is much closer to System Shock than Prey. So it just feels strange to see Prey name on that one.

My problem is that pretty much every other post in any topic about this new Prey game is just whining about Prey 2 when in reality Prey 2 could have been absolutely god awful or it could have been really good, but the thing is we don't know. It's not like we are discussing a game that we've seen, played, and knew was going to be absolutely worth it, were discussing 'what ifs' and 'what could have beens' on a subject that is several years old. It's been talked about again and again and at this point I'm just re-reading the same complaints as I did years ago and I personally am just tired of the conversation being about something we don't even have a completed version to actually compare anything too. I'm not saying Bethesda didn't do some horrible and shitty things but I am saying not every discussion about this game has to be derailed by discussion of Prey 2. This doesn't happen with every Star Wars game because 1313 got canceled, it shouldn't happen here.

I want to talk about THIS Prey game, what do you like or not like about what were seeing about it (besides that its not fucking Prey 2!)? Does the idea that despite the name that its very like Bioshock or System Shock interest you? That kind of thing.

Edit: 4 of the 7 posts between your post and this one were bringing up Prey 2 or how this doesn't look like Prey/Prey2. While its possible some people just aren't informed of what happened sevearl of those posts specifically mention how they wish it was Prey 2 instead, thats what I'm talking about and tired of hearing again and again.

Not sure it will sell you on it but half of our design team here shipped the source of your avatar.

Oh, I'm sold, as on any System Shock game or any game from Arkane really at this point. It's just a strange choice of name that bothers me a bit.

This was the definite winner of the Quakecon showcase, with each subsequent gameplay reveal making the crowd go nuts. The guns looked solid to use and included your standard fare such as a silenced pistol and a shotgun, while there was weirder weaponry such as the GLOO Gun, which could not only freeze enemies in place, but could be used to seal open pipes and shoot goo onto walls to climb to higher areas. Another cool gadget was this grenade that had the ability to "recycle" things in the environment; thrown in a cluttered storage area, it subsequently turned crates and toolboxes into synthetic elements that could be used. The powers showcased looked cool too, such as the mentioned Mimic ability and the kinetic push ability (both reveals made the audience go nuts). The enemies seen included both aliens and robots, and looked interesting as well. The alien enemies were crazy hard to fight, being able mimic items such as trash cans and books, propelling themselves across the room and able to take a lot of punishment. One hulking alien enemy was chasing the player during the demo and was able to morph from a big brawny looking hulk to this thinner, longer lizard form. The upgrade system resembled a tree system that also allowed for upgraded strength that allowed the player to grab giant boxes and lob them across the room like it weightless. There were zero g sections that were navigated with a jetpack, and the devs said that the whole station was being treated as one open world that could be navigated this way. The art looked more like a cleaner but menacing retro sci fi style, and the entire demo was oozing the best parts of System Shock and Bioshock. Hearing the game being stressed as a first person immersive rpg from the devs was very reassuring, and overall this was definitely my favorite part of the show.

From an aesthetic standpoint I think the scenery looks neat but the monsters and people look like crap :/

Didn't really see any gameplay in this but I'll keep an open mind.

Looks amazing and I have complete faith in Arkane after the masterpiece that Dishonored was, and Dishonored 2 will hopefully be.

Weird that they're using the Cryengine though. Why not Void? Or even idtech. Judging by the characters faces I thought it was the Void engine. They all looked very Dishonored-like in style.

The original Prey was ok, it was never anything special. The Prey 2 reveal looked cool but only had one hook, catch aliens because you're a bounty hunter. It was canned well before we even got to see it being played.

I'm glad they're taking the name and making something decent with it. You're being hunted so you are the prey. It makes perfect sense.

Looking forward to seeing more but with only an ambiguous 2017 date I'm not sure it's worth getting too hyped up for it at this point.

Oh, and fuck headcrabs that can do this:

What was shown could've been a vertical slice, but we were showed it being played. There's gameplay demo footage over on YouTube

You know you got a problem on your hands when basically Everytime you talk about the game you have to say "not related to old Prey.....even though we own that to".

Also I want to add I get both sides of what's going on. It does suck that people want to talk about this specific game. But due to the name it's always gonna carry that baggage until release basically. Where a lot will depend on the quality of the game. If it blows the original game titled Prey out of the water, that'll help. If it doesn't however that's not gonna be a good time. While not the same company, I'm surprised Bethesda did this after the whole XCOM debacle back in the day. Considering the YouTube comments and other forums, there's apparently a lot of people who still vividly remember old Prey. Even if they try to bury it.

Meh, I don't really like the direction they're taking it. I always loved the visceral and surreal feel of Prey 1, and this looks a little plain. Some of the space sci fi stuff is interesting, and I hope that's what the majority of the game will be set in, but I will be sad to see portals and the spirit motifs going away.

The more I see and read about this game, the more excited I get. And the studio that brought us Dishonored? I'm so in. As for the original Prey? It was an okay game, but I don't really care all that much that the sequel got canned, to be honest. Not saying others don't have a right to, but I'm more interested in this than I ever was in Prey 2.

Looked really good to me and it's being made by an amazing studio and written by an amazing writer. Can't get hyped yet though, it's too far off for that. Hope development goes well!

I will say this though, If they change their mind on anything I hope they make the main character Native American again. I thought that was a really cool part of Prey and it made me really think. To me that was a cornerstone of what made Prey special.

This is one of those games where it can be whatever it needs to be as long as it has a great story. It doesn't really stand out visually and I can feel the combat feeling out of place but whatever sells I guess. I never had a connection to the series to begin with anyway other than thinking that Prey 2 trailer looked dope.

Can we all at least agree to not blame Arkane for this situation?

This seems like it'll be up my alley. Very excited for Dishonored 2 as well.

Ask me about the moon landing or the temperature at which jet fuel burns. You may be surprised at what you learn.

The blame lies squarely on Bethesda.

Arkane developing has actually piqued my interest.

I hope this game turns out well but I still just can't help wishing we got the cancelled Prey 2 from Human Head studios.

This game looks ok but it doesn't have the sense of uniqueness or "Grab" that prey 2 had, where you see it and go "that looks amazing" or "Never seen a game like this!"

This version just looks a lot like Dead Space/System Shock and other similar games set on a space craft.

All gameplay impressions sound so far sound awesome.

If only more people would pay attention to it.

Surprised at the tepid reactions, everything we've seen/heard so far looks great. And the writing is bound to be top notch.

It's too bright. None of the reveal trailer's atmosphere was in this imo.

I'll wait for real gameplay I guess but I'm not feeling it.

I was kind of in thinking this will scratch the Systen Shock / Dead Space itch but then the trailer just fell apart into action scenes which pulled me out of it a bit.

Cautiously optimistic after this trailer. I was super optimistic with the original CG reveal. Hope it works out.

The trailer didn't do a very good job at showing off the game parts of the game. Outside of that though it sounds like it could be a fantastic game. This video does a way better job at selling the game to me, but I get that what he talks about in it isn't easy to show off in a two minute trailer. Hopefully more extended gameplay previews will show up at some point.

I really don't like to see very generic and uninspired weapons in this game which doesn't fit the sci-fi setting at all. Generic shotgun, pistol and a knife on a freaking space station? Really? Come on! You can do better than that.

I mean, just look at Dead Space series, there is not a single generic weapon available in these games, instead all of them was very unique and even had 2 modes and different ways to kill enemies (not to mention that all of them fit the main character's profession).

But here.... I don't know, the game looks cool in terms of setting and art, but gameplay wise looks generic as hell (at least in terms of FPS mechanics) plus enemies also looks uninspired and uninteresting. I mean, *sigh* what's so cool about black and smoky things and more importantly - will it be fun to kill them with such generic weapons? Somehow I don't think so.

So far the first impression in terms of gameplay is not so good, and to be honest I much prefer Alien: Isolation type of gameplay with 90% exploration and 10% everything else than very boring shooter like BioShock Infinite and FPS mechanics was never a best part of System Shock or BioShock series.
