I'm going to kick myself for not getting the mystery gift once I found out what it is, I'm sure, but I just went with the plain old Blu-ray set.

I know this is a pipe dream, but they should do The Secret Life of Jeffrey Dahmer. It was made for television and was produced at around the same time before his criminal trial. It was very sensationalistic, and very badly acted. One particular moment that cracked me up was when Dahmer dopes one of his victims in his apartment and stuffs him in his infamous blue vat while he's still unconscious. Anyone who ever followed that case knows that the vat in question was used to chemically dissolve his victims for easy disposal.

Does anyone think there will be shorts in this go around? Would instructional shorts from the 1940's seem outdated for this new version of MST3K?

I don't think Instructional or Educational videos will ever stop being their go to for shorts (Joel and Jonah did pretty well during the RiffTrax reunion show on theirs), but I hope they also offer up something like Commando Cody from time to time. It would allow for running gags

I always thought Thunderbirds would make for some great riffing material. Another dark horse candidate for riffing could be the Richard Simmons Deal a Meal infomercials. Informercials, mind you, not the actual tapes or his sweatin to the oldies. Just take his 15 minute pitches, as well as his occasional interview with clients, and just run with it. Or they could go with Robert Tilton videos from the 1980's and 90's.

I'd like to see more serials, too. I binged on Rifftrax's Batman earlier this year and I really don't regret it.

I'm somewhat amazed they managed to do fifteen opening sequences with different gags each time!

Anybody going to SDCC to see the new crew?

If I can get a ticket for the signing, that's fine, but I actually just want to go by the Shout Booth on Saturday and get a photo with the Tom and Crow puppets more.

Skipping the panel, though. Don't have time, I'm sure they'll be showing some stuff.

Do you think they may have a full blown Crow animatronic with articulated legs for some of the long shots? I always thought he looked like a polio victim whenever they'd to long shots that included his legs. They were always wirey and just.....dangled there.

And what about Gypsy's body? I don't think the show ever showed Gypsy having an actual torso.

I was wondering if they'd ever entertain the idea of doing some of the shit that turns up on Trinity Broadcast Network. Alot of unintentionally hilarious stuff airs on that network.

This.

Although, I'm not confident it wouldn't be a train wreck based on our last stream.
While we are on the topic, can I just say how much I usually hate Q&A panels?

It's always the most awkward experience, even when it is "professionals" doing the questions in the audience.

The worst thing about Q&A panels is that people keep asking the same questions that the panelists have answered a hundred times. It would be nice just once if someone would ask an original question.

There have only been a few I've enjoyed in my life. The only real on was an impromptu one with Bruce Campbell, who had the charisma to prop up or put down every odd question properly.

Based on the tone of the update, I'm guessing they'll announce what network/service will be airing the show.

For some reason, I hope it's Comedy Central for the laughs.

I've seen some Facebook advertisements by Hulu today for the old stuff, so my money is on this show being a Hulu exclusive (except for backers, naturally).

Yeah, that was for the signing.

The Conival session was Periscoped by a fan. Just finished watching that one. https://www.periscope.tv/rocket_soup/1BdGYVkPqLyJX

I'd prefer Netflix but would be fine with Hulu.
Netflix is best for the show, but ultimately it's all good because my tier gets me downloads and eventually Blu-Rays.

Along with the Netflix announcement at Comic-Con in San Diego on Saturday night came news that “Community” star Joel McHale and creator Dan Harmon had joined the “MST3K” writing staff. Former writers and cast members Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy, who played the puppet ‘bots Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo, are returning. And Mary Jo Pehl will also reprise her role as mad scientist Pearl Forrester.

OMG.

That would explain why the new bot voices have pretty much vanished from mention the last few months...

edit: Hollywood Reporter is saying two things...

Comedians Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn are set as the two voices of the show's robotic sidekicks

Mary Jo Pehl (Pearl Forrester), Bill Corbett (Crow T. Robot) and Kevin Murphy from the original cast will reprise their roles in the new series.

It's official: Mystery Science Theater 3000 is being revived — at Netflix.

The streaming giant has landed the revival that started with following a successful Kickstarter campaign, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The news will be officially announced Saturday at Comic-Con during a panel for the revival.

Netflix will debut the series in what it said is the "not too distant future," with MST3K available in the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the U.K.

Hodgson will be involved in writing and all facets of production of the revival. New episodes will feature a new host, Mads (aka "mad scientist") and new movies to riff. DIY queen Felicia Day will take on the role of mad scientist Kinga Forrester, daughter of one of the show's original villains, Dr. Clayton Forrester (Trace Beaulieu). Patton Oswalt will portray Son of TV's Frank; comedians Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn are set as the two voices of the show's robotic sidekicks; and Nerdist podcast co-host Jonah Ray is the lead host. Community's Joel McHale and showrunner Dan Harmon are also attached as writers. Mary Jo Pehl (Pearl Forrester), Bill Corbett (Crow T. Robot) and Kevin Murphy from the original cast will reprise their roles in the new series. Elliott Kalan, the Emmy-winning former head writer of The Daily Show, will serve as the head writer on MST3K. The series is exec produced by Hodgson, Richard Foos, Bob Emmer, Garson Foos, Jonathan Stern, Harold Buchholz, Elliott Kalan as well as Satellite of Love, Alternaversal Productions and Abominable Pictures.

They must be coming back as Bobo and Observer because the two new Bot voices are at the SDCC panel. Least I think that's them.

This panel looks so tiny.

But yeah, this is the best outcome imaginable, right? Outside of Trace and Mike making some sort of return we got everything we could've wanted.

Trace and Frank are longshots, but if Kevin and Bill are returning, I have to imagine Mike will show up now and then.

makes good threads.
They were just confirmed at the panel to be coming back as Bobo and Brain Guy to bridge into the new season. Mary Jo Pehl will help write the show. Though I hope Murphy and Corbet voice the bots at the beginning and transition into the new voices somehow.

Anything else interesting announced at the panel? I tried to watch it, but gave up after the woman took five minutes to ask whether there would be any musical numbers or not.

Really cool to hear Mary Jo is coming back. Kevin and Bill being on-board is great, though I wish they'd just be the bots.

Wonder if they offered Mike to come on-board and he declined...

Any chance that a Turkey Day Special Marathon featuring all the offbeat characters is possible? I always found the segments to be entertaining. Jack Perkins hitting on Mr. B Natural had me in stitches back in the day.

I'm just wondering if Pehl, Murphy, and Corbett's presence will be a one shot to help transition the new characters. They still have Rifftrax to fall back on, or perhaps they might be closing shop. Does anyone have the full scoop? Also, have they announced any of the films they plan on tackling this season? I'm really interested if they'll be riffing on more recognizable films this time around. I wonder if Netflix might have mandated that they aim for films that are more ubiquitous in the minds of their viewers. Manos Hands of Fate is a classic episode, but would it fly in the revival? I just don't know, but it's worth pondering.

Joel offered everyone spots which turned into an uncomfortable Twitter exchange between the previous cast and fans (mostly Frank) basically implying they were ousted for being too old.

They've responded (MST3k official) on their facebook page that these are guest star roles, so assume it might just be handing off the reigns type of guest appearance or perhaps a few appearances at best.
