Final Fantasy VII Remake is a multi-part series

This is how I read it, but I'm worried we're wrong.
I thought it's similar to what Verendus implied as well.

Could FFVII REMAKE be part of a big project as opposed to a remake of a single game? Think Crisis Core, Dirge, Advent Children etc... Maybe they just mean that FFVII will be one game. There will be more spinoffs and whatnot that tell other parts of the overall story that will come out as well. Maybe I'm just being too hopeful.

If it's legit episodic with just vignettes of different parts of the game.....lol.

this is exactly what SE has been waiting for...

They finally have their cash cow front and center and you bet your goddamn butts that they will milk it for every cent possible.

Breaking up a giant, story-driven, world-spanning RPG in to segments separated by who knows how long seems like an absolutely horrible idea.

How long will each part be is the real question. And how often will parts be released? Even if you say it's to get the parts out quicker which is true, people are going to rip through each part and then they'll be pissed off they have to wait to play more. The negative feedback after someone tears through an episode is going to be through the roof. If you're getting one part every 4-6 months, that's going to be awful. I guess we have to wait and see what they announce for it but I won't get my hopes up too much. This will be weird, especially in such a long game.

I agree. Just need some microtransactions and DLC to go along with that 4x20 tag and we will have a full game on our hands.

I really doubt they're doing this to squeeze money out of consumers. They probably want this out next year to compliment Final Fantasy XV's release date in the later quarters.

Before you guys go crazy, it's so they can release parts of it quicker.

That's what I figured. Still seems like an odd choice for a remake, though.

At this point, every numbered FF might as well be episodic as well. Hell, every long ass JRPG that is a valuable franchise should be episodic.

what a time to be alive.

After seeing how detailed everything was, this doesn't surprise me at all. Did people really expect a complete recreation of FF7 in its entirity with that fidelity? The number of man hours required for that many assets would be astronomical.

I guess that explains how they plan to cover the whole story. They'll use episode breaks to cut out parts of the world that would be too large and too time consuming/expensive to create.

So basically this is FFVII Avalanche Chronicles.

So are you saying that this won't have any impact in the game design? i.e. will there be any cut content and the will the episodes focus on the important story bits only?

I knew it. I knew that episode 1 would end after the terrorists leave/escape Midgar!

And I'm fine with it.

Exactly, the game wouldn't be released until 2018 if that was the case. Now I look forward to playing the first episode in 12 months.

So that's why we have footage now. 1 episode every 2 years.

Oh shit, HD towns strikes again.

The dream was nice SE, even with it being action rpg but this is the wake up to reality moment.

Weirdly I very recently revisited FF7 and was quite staggered at the work they'd put in and only posted this moments ago in the other thread.

Just reloaded the other thread before posting the image, didn't notice this one when I made the post. But yeah, interesting move.

On the one hand, quicker content presumably.

On the other, "Not like this."

I do like all the "The dream is dead" and other such posts.

I honestly don't see the problem with it. It's going to come out. If people want to play "The whole thing" they can wait for all of the episodes to release. This is a way for people to play and enjoy the game much earlier and continue to drum up buzz. Then again, most (not all) people in these threads have been very negative toward any changes in general so it's not surprising.

I have to be honest, this is actually how I interpreted it at first.

I'm just taking this as the remake being complete, and then some spin-off FF7 games (like we've seen already). No need to freak out. Yet. ;)

Come on

There isn't a single person in the world who looked at that trailer and said "oh, I wish this was made in episodic format". Seriously, Square.

Maybe Square looked at it that way after the decade+ debacle that was Versus XIII. I don't know if it'll work out, but I can completely see why they would want to go that route.

Being episodic by itself is not really a problem, you could just wait untill everything is done to start playing it. What worries me more is this: 'each with their own unique experience'.
This pretty much implies different types of gameplay per episode.. and it'll probably span out on Ps5 etc. Oh well. Why not... They should have been more clear from the beginning though..

The game is just too ambitious as a remake.

Especially with the high end assets SE seems to insist on.

This makes a lot of sense.

It really kills the feel of a proper remake , though.
