Final Fantasy VII Remake is a multi-part series

Hahahahahaha of course it is. Because why wouldn't it be.

I guess that explains how they were able to show gameplay so quickly. I fully expected the game to go dark for a long time after the initial announcement.

Why is everyone freaking out? What does it matter if it's split into parts? It just means we will get to play some earlier.

You can still wait for the full thing if you want.

I agree. I'm sure they want to have the first release ready for the 20 year anniversary. If the price to content ratio is too high I will wait till the price goes down.

I don't know, I can see positives to this given how long it takes Square to put out anything.

Looks like worrying about the butchering of the original combat was pointless, this game is going to be gutted in ways I couldn't even imagine.

Well hopefully when PS4 gets part 2, then PC will have part 1. That said I'll get it on both either way, unless they release on both at the same time.

I actually laughed out loud for like 20+ seconds when I saw this pop up on Twitter.

The footage they showed yesterday actually had me fairly interested, I fucking knew it was somehow too good to be true.

Talk about a buzzkill of a reveal. Don't even know how this will end up working without being ridiculous through a 10 part episode with a $100 season pass sort of thing.

I really hope Square-Enix do not attempt to charge $60 per episode. They may just try it though, seeing as how much pent up demand for a FF7 Remake there is.

Oh boy, this is going to be one hell of a thread.

Guessing this is to a) circumvent having to spend resources working on some of the more lavish (and thereby expensive & time consuming) environments and b) get it out to people quicker.

Makes sense, financially. It did seem a little weird that Square would be pouring money into FFXV, KHIII and a full scale remake of FFVII all at the same time.

Puts a bit of a damper on things.

Considering most people know the story and what happens doing this episodic ruins the suspense and tension an episodic game can create.

If I play it, I might actually finish it as an episodic game; have enough space between episodes and avoid the burnout/real life interruptions, doesn't seem too bad

Never played the original myself, so most of the story would be fresh to me too sooooo I'll keep an open mind, all dependant on price though.

I swear all these companies, and I mean ALL these companies go out of their way to piss of their customers. It's astonishing to watch.

No thanks. I already know what happens in the end. The whole crux of episodic content is to satisfy narrative curiosity/intrigue for me. Having to wait months (or years) to scratch a gameplay itch ain't gonna work for me, I'm just going to end up playing the hell out of the first episode and be done with the whole thing outright.

If they did it where you could pre-purchase the entire thing for the $60 or whatever, I'd be alright with that.

But knowing SE, they'd probably make each episode a really high amount since they know they could get away with it.

Its pretty obvious this is the reason, considering they must be trying to avoid another Versus/XV situation. Obviously people will quickly jump into the "fuck Square and its greedy decisions!" boat.
Or, you know, they could just develop and release a game in a timely fashion but why hold them to pesky standards?

Come on

There isn't a single person in the world who looked at that trailer and said "oh, I wish this was made in episodic format". Seriously, Square.
