When you pick up Black Ops: Cold War after playing Modern Warfare 2019 it becomes painfully obvious how outdated the Call of Duty graphics engine (based on the ID Tech 3 engine) has really become and how great of a of a job Infinity Ward did at revitalizing the engine last year.
But regardless of that, with new (FREE) engines such as Unreal Engine 5 coming out that can handle photo realism on a much greater scale than CoD's engine there really is no excuse.
Why do you think the CoD devs haven't embraced a full blown change? It seems like it would certainly be possible with their typical three year development cycle.
