[VG TECH] Mortal Shell PS5 Dynamic 1800p Resolution Update Frame Rate Test

Member

Mortal Shell on PS5 using version 1.000.005 uses a dynamic resolution with the highest native resolution found being 3200x1800 and the lowest native resolution found being approximately 2304x1296. Temporal upsampling is used to reconstruct a 3200x1800 resolution when rendering natively below this resolution.

The lowest resolution found on PS5 was during the scene at 6:50 and the PS5 drops its resolution more in this scene than the Xbox Series X does. In the scene where the Xbox Series X dropped to its lowest resolution found which was approximately 2560x1440 the PS5 also dropped its resolution to approximately 2560x1440.

PS5 doesn't not like how they did the fire effects.

Take out those dropped frames, it's locked to 60 I guess.

Good job over in the end.

Great job. The res lower bound a little bit lower than the x but it dropping less frame and more stable on the ps5. Good trade off.

As discussed previously, nice update (and on par with previous 1440p framerate results, and XsX ones with slightly more stable frame rate but slightly lower bound res)

How does the ps5 version compare to a RX 5700 XT in this game? Couple of videos on YouTube show that at least on ultra 1440p it can't hold 60fps, but interested to see how the ps5 compares to this.

That part is a bit weird... the places Series X drops to mininum the PS5 has the same resolution.

But there is one place that PS5 dropped to 1296p... 6:50 on the video.

Wasn't fixed 1440p at 60fps locked in the first patch? Lol the fuck happening of different with the DRS in this scene? Some engine are really bizzarre.

That is why it is weird... it basically get low as 1440p in the same scenes in both consoles.
But that one I posted is the only place it drops to 1296p on PS5 and it is not dropping to 1440p on Series X.

He s aid that.

"The lowest resolution found on PS5 was during the scene at 6:50 and the PS5 drops its resolution more in this scene than the Xbox Series X does. Basically the resolution of both are very similar and that 6:50 is the exception.

Indeed, it's just one scene, the versions are now near identical with PS5 having ever so slightly better frame rate without any screan tearing contrary to the XSX version.
Xbox version is not VSynced if you look at the frametimes that makes it tear.

This image shows framrate more stable on PS5 plus some tear on Series X and a lot S.

Series are not VSynced that made the frame time all out of the place.

Edit - I believe I mistook what you said... sorry.

You are sure, that last patch (few days ago) for XSX/XSS dont add VSync??.

Booth version is IDENTICAL. Only fanboys see difference between 1440p -1296p and avarage framrate 59.96 vs 59.89.

There is any test with the new patch? Because the table shows it is not VSynced.

They did fix the texture streaming issues too?

100% yes.

"The texture streaming issues that the Xbox Series S previously had have been improved."

Thanks for the link.
They just tested the S version and it is not VSynced plus there are texture streaming issues yet but it is indeed a improvement in that regard.

I believe it should be the same for Series X... no VSync and improved texture streaming issues.

The tearing is very decreased too... 3000 frames in previous patch to 60 in this new one... that is another evidence it is not using VSync.

PS. About VSync look at the minimum and maximum frametimes... VSync doesn’t allow 13 or 25... it is either 16.66 or 33.33 because VSync will delay the render for these times... that result in tear.

You got it all mixed up, tearing only appears when vsync is disabled (you can have partial vsync where the fps is capped at 60 and when it drops below the data is sent to the screen ASAP, which results in smoother movement but a teared frame, which is not necessarily easy to spot depending where it's located on the screen).

Nope, on that other thread there was a very scientific survey that demonstrated that the vast majority of people have 4k OLED screens capable of VRR.

Which is nice, because people were never this fast to adopt a new display technology.

Sorry I was this misguided, I'm sure Riky and few other people ensured survey results were representative for the overall market

How that works if most displays being produced are not HDMI 2.1?
Even OLED production is way lower compared with others techs LCD LED.

In 2020 it was shipped around 4 million OLED TVs (not all of these were HDMI 2.1) where sold where 2.04 million come from LG.

Most people who are buying a ps5 and a series x are the first to jump on the latest and greatest tvs. We are the enthusiasts after all. Give me vrr Sony!

I'm enthusiastic and play on a PLASMA Full HD and I still didn't see any reason to migrate to 4k... I'm waiting the definitive HDMI 2.1 TV but it is not on the market yet... maybe next year.

There are a lot of people who went out and git hdmi 2.1 tvs last year, currently. The lg cx is great and big option for many.

It was probably the best option but still have several issues with HDMI 2.1 including VRR that were not possible to be fixed without new hardware.

I will let that test phase for the specialists... when they put a 4k TV without the issues I will probably buy one... even the new Sony OLEDs are still not there.

Those long posts don't cover that red neck boy
You know, in practice (As in, people playing the game regularly) are never going to see such small deficits on average on all consoles.

Series S's GPU is getting tested here. 1280 cores can only do so much and to attempt 60 makes it more of a hassle for that machine than all the other current-gen hardware

Looks like the game is now how they promised.

Great performance with up to 1800p resolution... there is not texture loading issues on PS5 version too.
We were promised 4K60! :p

Joking aside, its early days. The fact that we now routinously see 60 FPS games appear for most titles is such a relevation to the console gamer. Though, it remains interesting that the One X often hits higher resolutions.
WOW, if PS5 tore like the Series consoles, it's minimum framerate would probably be 58-59fps.......
Its kind of disappointing that this is thelastword of thelastword.

So has the texture streaming issue been fixed on the series X?

Good to know if they managed to overcome that bottleneck of the 10gb split memory! Haha /s
