I'm pretty sure that these are deals that steam makes with the devs/publishers. So if a publisher thinks it might fit into this, they'll offer it at a discount.
Technically, there's an LGBT tag on Steam. Which means that you can also filter it out.

The only thing that annoys me is every time I see the abbreviation LGBT, it has added like 2 or 3 letters since the last time I saw it. At that pace, it will have to incorporate emojys and what not to make sure no one is offended. Hell if this goes on, I could see "straight" being added as that seems to be a minority in the close future.

We live in a world in witch if Steam make sales for heterosexual games, they would get smashed by criticism, but seeing that it's LGBTQ+, it goes flawlessly good.
As a straight person, I also whant to get promotions on whatever you can call "straight games", because now I feel excluded from steam.
By the way, who is really competent to determinate witch game is straight, and with one is LGBTQQIP2SAA (because yeah, steam is all in for LGBTQ+, but it's not the perfect acronym, so please next time go all in). Tell me you don't already have kids and you're still this naive... Puberty? Oh man, I hate to have to be the one to have to tell you this but you need to be aware that kids as young as 7 or 8 are already avid consumers of porn. The amount of times this type of stuff comes up at my sister in law's (very nice and affluently located/attended) school where she works as a psychologist is borderline ridiculous. Kids are fully in the know much earlier than you seem to realize. As someone who does some part time spanish tutoring I've encountered this myself quite a few times. Welcome to the digital age, friend!
If that's really something you want for your kids you're gonna have to either homeschool them or move to North Korea, I'm affraid.
Does Steam not offer parental controls? I'm always a fan of options, customizable experiences are where it's at. If it lacks parental controls I understand the frustration...
As far as it when it doesn't work though, you're SOL if you want to live in the present, kids learn extremely fast and you can safely bet that mastering the technologies they enjoy using is bound to be a top priority for kids living in a tech-driven economy. Last year my then 10 year old niece managed to completely obliterate the parental controls on her home PC by recruiting the help of the ISP chatline and pretending to be her father. They only noticed it when the bill came a few weeks letter and there were some extra charges. She turned her user account on the PC from an extremely limited browsing experience with a couple of educational games/software and painting stuff installed on it to a fully featured and completely open wonderland of porn websites, makeup videos and f2p games. She had also joined discord and was having several different online relationships with people on (sexual) roleplaying servers and she had accumulated quite the nude collection as well, ranging from young and old men, women, trans. She was even clever enough to use the nudes other people sent her to pass them off as their own as well as storing all the incriminating material on google drive to save them for the future. She was curious and knew it was a matter of time until she was busted so she just went all out. Anything you try to keep your children away from they will naturally gravitate towards when away from your watchful gaze, it's inevitable.
I get what you mean, don't you worry. I absolutely understand that we all have different needs and wants and I'm all for an environment where one can tailor any experience to one's needs... what I don't understand is the knee-jerk calls for outright banning things just because it doesn't align with one's preferences. You want your kids to have a sheltered life, fair enough, like I said you do you... but I myself want something different for my kids and it always weirds me out to see such blanket statements since the way you want things to be would mean my way of doing things would get shoved aside and left with no recourse. I say keeping everything open everywhere and giving people options to close stuff out at their leisure is a much more level headed, fair and impartial course of action. Granted, many services lack such options or at the very least have very lacking options, but banning stuff altogether rather than wait for the tech to adapt is essentially just throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

How is featuring these games in a sale any more pathetic than allowing them on the platform at all? What exactly is it that would change if Valve did advertise the sale in Saudi Arabia or Pakistan? The treatment of homosexuals in those places wouldn't be affected by this at all, so the fact that they're profiting of a marginalized minority wouldn't change.
Can someone actually check if the sale is available in those countries? All I know is that it's available in Russia (which is definitely not a fun place to be if you're gay).

I get anime tiddy x-rated +18 game bundle ads on Indiegala must be because of my purchase history and I don't mind that at all. In my weaker moments I would like to have sale for those games directly on Steam too.
