I wish there was a way to auto-ignore any thread that has the words "Sony" or "Gamepass" in the title.
Do you poor sods really have nothing better to do with your time?
Surely for the sony enema.Want a tissue?
Imo Xbone lost the forums wars and that spillover to the gaming public.
Like also recent example of XBL Gold back pedaling...we have the power to make gaming a better place.
If all publishers REALLY wanted to reap the profits just put new games on pre-order for $10 cheaper than physical. All profits would go to the publisher and many people would be more inclined to buy digital. As of now there is no good reason to buy a NEW game digital. What kills me is the digital price, you have NO ownership (no disc)
it costs NOTHING to produce (again no disc)
and it can be duplicated ad-nauseum so no printing cost (Nada Disc)
No money for adverts, books, labels etc (bla bla disc)
Lastly, unlike a disc a digital code can't be sold, so there's no real 3rd party market thus no MAJOR loss in sales (must mention disc)
SO WHY THE HELL IS DIGITAL SO #$!^#&*^%^$@%$#!@#$%$ EXPENSIVE?!?
Oh yeah, like how forumers stopped microtransactions in their tracks, or how they got Call of Duty to have dedicated servers, or how they stopped paid online play.
We are an afterthought of an afterthought of an afterthought.
Is this your first console gen? Abrupt about-faces in beliefs are commonplace these days, especially on an enthusiast forum, which is hardly the place to find reasoned and objective arguments. 99% of the internet is wholly reactive, and does not lend itself to proper discourse. No one wants to take the time to understand or explore a scenario, they only want to be correct and validated. So naturally the sentiments become very one-sided and tribal until another news-bit arrives and sways the mob to a different path.Posters aren’t enemies. The almost instant attitude shift that has occurred in the literal last two weeks isn’t an organic or natural one. I was here one day and the threads were all fairly standard and more about games with some light console warring, the next it was all Sony is doomed. It wasn’t gradual and it didn’t coincide with any particular piece of news. Look at the comical amounts of baseless, too good to be true rumors being posted near daily giving us all reason to be super excited for Xbox. Funny coincidence that they have no big games aside from halo to sell their console. “But buy an Xbox, you might get Mario, wink” “oh what’s that? I hear Xbox may have another major unannounced game this year.”
Anyone that doesn’t at least try to understand the scope of astroturfing and the general control a 2 trillion dollar company can take of any website or forum they decide to is ignorant on purpose. Especially in the context of a company that has been caught doing it again and again.
MS under Phil is changing. i can't comment on others.
Mtx is something inevitable for today's business model
So even long term Sony hardcore fans who've been on this site for years are really sleeper units? You even have some PS fans in this forum losing their shit (if they are even PS fans).
You’re absolutely correct. I focused on € pricing because that’s close to me but £, CAD, AUD are also, if not even more egregious. Just saying Americans are last ones who should be complaining.Lol
“The price hike is fine if you live in the US”
Thats alright then! Its £70 in the uk. Convert that to USD and you’ll see why people are rightly pissed off
Nah, I completely forgot about it because don’t see an issue. Not a PC gamer btw. It just seems like very sound and logical idea, why would you leave money at the table? PC gaming is huge and you introduce your franchises to so many people who don’t play on consoles. No harm done.I don't know if the thread is parody, but if it isn't: notice how he didn't write a paragraph to justify PlayStation exclusives coming to PC.
Sony bringing games to PC is the one thing that doesn't fit his narrative, and even he can't bring himself to defend or admit it is also a good idea for the company. But based on the additional millions of dollars in revenue Sony have been making from it, it too, was objectively a good idea.
Good to know. But why is the thread labelled 'cringe' if it's not parody; why do you keep making similar threads defending Sony? I can't tell if you're being serious, or are just pretending to imitate Shane Bettenhausen and the whole Sony Defense Force thing.Nah, I completely forgot about it because don’t see an issue. Not a PC gamer btw. It just seems like very sound and logical idea, why would you leave money at the table? PC gaming is huge and you introduce your franchises to so many people who don’t play on consoles. No harm done.
This is true. The reason Microsoft is betting big on Gamepass is because of their consistent failure to develop exclusive games for going on a decade and a half at this point. They've made their bed and now they have to sleep in it.2. What is Sony’s answer to Gamepass? There doesn’t need to be one. Their game development is costly, yes but they also sell a lot and are providing record profits for gaming division. Something is clearly working. PS Plus and Now are just enough.
The collapse of the home console market in Japan is a serious problem for Sony. Games that are developed by third-party Japanese developers can become major successes in the west, and those games sell better on PlayStation than on Xbox. If Japan's domestic console market is flagging, it means that Japanese third parties will defect to Nintendo or to mobile development (which doesn't have legs in the west) and that means less profit for Sony. As to what Sony can do about this, I'm not sure. The obvious solution, a portable PS4 with HDMI out, may be technologically impossible.3. Getting rid of Japan Studio. Japan is lost cause, they moved on from home console gaming for one reason or another. It’s all handheld and it’s all Nintendo. This isn’t Sony’s fault. Don’t tell me they created such a Japanese-centric games before because they didn’t, they only had third-party monopoly back at the time. It doesn’t get more Japanese than Ghost of Tsushima and it still didn’t sell as much as it should there (as your typical Monster Hunter or Dragon Quest) considering it’s their fucking history.
This sort of approach isn't how Sony built up its world-class stable of first-party studios, and in fact has more in common with Microsoft's long track record of studio mismanagement. Imagine if Sony had pulled the plug on Naughty Dog or Sucker Punch because Uncharted 1 or Infamous didn't meet expectations. If you want to make hits you have to tolerate some measure of failure. One mega-hit five or ten years from now will more than make up for a couple experimental flops.4. Jimbo refused Kojima. Yes, because his game they invested so much in was a commercial (and to an extent critical) flop. If we can draw one conclusion from Sony’s MO is that they don’t tolerate failure. They gave him everything he wanted including help from other major studio, something he didn’t have at Konami during his last project there and he produced them that!? Let Microsoft fund his craziness from now on, good riddance.
Nintendo doesn't only make Zelda and Mario, of course, and Zelda and Mario are extremely distinct from each other in the first place. In addition to Zelda and Mario, Nintendo has a flagship JRPG series (Pokemon), a flagship house-decorating game for girls (Animal Crossing), a flagship racing game, a flagship fighting game, a couple mid-tier JRPG series (Xeno and Fire Emblem), and so on.5. Sony only creates narrative-focused action-adventures that all look and play samey. Well, that’s objectively not true because they funded many experimental projects but key is that they found their niche and are excelling at it. It’s become their brand and what community expects from them. It works. People that don’t wish Sony good are trying to tell them to do something else, create new IP, experiment with indie ideas etc. Meaning, burn your hard-earned money just to feel good all the way to bankruptcy. Why don’t you tell Nintendo to finally move on from Zelda and Mario after 30 fucking years or Microsoft with their worn out Halo franchise. Na-ah, I’m seeing right through your ill intentions.
Agreed. $70 is a non-issue in the US. Sony's pricing in Europe and certain other markets is a problem, though.6. 70$. This is only egregious in Europe where it’s 80€ but because of the weak dollar right now it’s nothing in US. Your recent standard hike perfectly justifies this price hike. But key here is that Sony’s games drop their price relatively quickly and there are tons of sales and deals throughout the year, it’s really not an issue unless you’re Day 1 zealot. Nintendo, meanwhile, doesn’t know what discount is, sells their old games at full price and people still buy their shit in droves.
Jim Ryan didn't get his job in a vacuum. The people responsible for Sony's revival in the late PS3 generation and the dominance of the PS4 were ousted as part of an internal power struggle. Whatever success Ryan is having is the result of the efforts of people like Layden and Yoshida, and Ryan's own performance simply does not inspire confidence.Conclusion. Jim Ryan led SCEE very successfully for years and that’s why he got this job. Even if some decisions are not immediately popular with tiny but loud internet crew, I’m sure they’re best for the company. Until it shows in financial results I have no reason to doubt them. Dark days of early-mid PS3 lifecycle will never come back again.
This is objectively true. We've got tons of polls here showing that a tiny proportion of Gaf prefers Xbox, yet somehow we're subjected to a constant flood of pro-Xbox nonsense. It's not natural, for sure, and it shouldn't be taken seriously. Ditto Microsoft's stable of paid social media influencers and YouTube personalities, and all the puff pieces they plant in the English-language tech press.Posters aren’t enemies. Infamous 1 sold what, 2 million total? That's less than Bloodborne. Today's Sony would have absolutely mauled Sucker Punch for that sort of "failure."Imru’ al-Qays Uncharted 1 got 88 and first Infamous got 85 on MC. Uncharted was massive success right off the bat, Infamous not as much but enough to fund a (very good) sequel and later Second Son. It certainly wasn’t high-budget bizarro game like Death Stranding that didn’t pass critical or commercial threshold for success. Remember, Sony will give you a pass if you manage to achieve at least one of the two, doesn’t have to be both.
EDIT: another example is Days Gone. Poor initial reviews and, it seems, not enough of sales to justify continuing with the IP. Not saying 3-4M is bad but 3-4M now is not the same as 3-4M in 2008.
Yet in the "for those that have both" thread, the Xbox won the poll despite a bunch of PS5 only owners voting for it.This is objectively true. That doesn't mean that elements of Sony's behavior aren't actually concerning though.
PlayStation fans have no reason to buy an Xbox; Xbox fans have a reason to buy a PlayStation. Obviously people who buy both consoles are going to favor Xbox.Yet in the "for those that have both" thread, the Xbox won the poll despite a bunch of PS5 only owners voting for it.
OK then.PlayStation fans have no reason to buy an Xbox; Xbox fans have a reason to buy a PlayStation. Obviously people who buy both consoles are going to favor Xbox.
How does this keep getting peddled? This is true. The reason Microsoft is betting big on Gamepass is because of their consistent failure to develop exclusive games for going on a decade and a half at this point. They've made their bed and now they have to sleep in it.
LOL dude this is sad.How does this keep getting peddled?
What are Forza Horizon 3 and 4? What is Forza Motorsport 7? What are the Ori games? What is Halo 5? What is the Halo MCC? Shit, Forza Horizon 2 was 7 years ago and is another one. These are all massive critical successes in both MC scores and playerbase. Sea of Thieves is a thriving community with over 4m sold on Steam and countless more on Xbox.
I get some people don't like some consoles but good god you don't need to exagerrate one of the consoles faults. This is just as bad as the walking simulator meme for PS titles. All you're doing is showing everybody you are completely ignorant.
1000% But at least their loyal fans(especially xboxone owners) benefit from it. The real coup is someone who didn’t have an xbox and can now sign up for gp and play what they want with one of the many deals available. They invested nothing and get the same benefits as any long term customer. If xbox is a service now that’s what they can expect. But yeah, you don’t give away games that history has shown people are willing to pay a premium for unless you’re making up for something. This is true. The reason Microsoft is betting big on Gamepass is because of their consistent failure to develop exclusive games for going on a decade and a half at this point. They've made their bed and now they have to sleep in it.
They wouldn’t because game got good to great reviews. I already told you that. It’s not devs problem if Sony’s marketing doesn’t do a good job. Devs only need to make sure game is as good as possible with allotted budget. That’s why they got another bite at the with I2 (and SS). But series wasn’t going anywhere and smartly they decided to shut it down.Infamous 1 sold what, 2 million total? That's less than Bloodborne. Today's Sony would have absolutely mauled Sucker Punch for that sort of "failure."
Infamous is at an 85 Metacritic and Death Stranding is at an 82. The console market is LESS competitive now than it was back when the 360 was outselling the PS3. You are totally wrong on every count. They wouldn’t because game got good to great reviews. I already told you that. It’s not devs problem if Sony’s marketing doesn’t do a good job. Are they little bit more impatient now? Sure, but who wouldn’t be in today’s ever-changing and highly competitive market.
I think not only sales or reviews but the whole game concept was insulting for Sony executives. They threw millions upon millions of dollars on FedEx courier simulator.
Its probably from that Gold Dealer.
Sony is their own enemy. Did Nintendo secretly tell Sony to close their Ps3 store?
Yeah, I agree, your console warring is pretty sad.LOL dude this is sad.
So even long term Sony hardcore fans who've been on this site for years are really sleeper units?
Yeah, of course. Makes perfect sense.
Yep, that sucked balls. PS Store we are losing 5 consoles, Wii Store we lost even more, all with really good emulation and 240p output .Nintendo is shutting down the Wii Shop in 2019
