I was going to get the SN850, but even with the heat sink those babies run really hot. Decided to get a 2TB Aorus 7000s, much better heatsink and runs quite a bit cooler.
Mine no heatsink in PC never goes over 40c. Typically it's around 35c. Obviously not totally comparable but I heard it ran hot but I can't seem to make mine.

I think that will be up to the manufactures, and Sony did list the specifications to follow.

An official list/stamp of approval will most likely come from Sony, not the manufactures. Just like third party peripherals, this should be no different.

The SN850 has 1.000.000 IOPS and the Aorus 7000 650.000 which might also explain the cheaper price.
yeah I was looking at Aorus initially because of the price but then WD dropped the prices on their store again + I got a 15% discount code from having left it in my cart for a couple of days so I ended up getting a SN850 for ~$20 less than the Aorus

Any download link available for the beta? Does someone need to be enrolled to try it out?
I already have a 2TB Aorus, but didn't receive the email somehow.

Don't forget to share your experience with us. I mean the beta not your trip to Disney world.

:messenger_winking_tongue:
LOL! Well, the thing doesn't say I can't share... soooo.... I'll be installing a WD SN850 with heatsink. I'll provide whatever detail I can. Will get to it a bit later or tomorrow.

Hilarious! I thought that sign up for beta was over, but I gave it a shot anyway a couple days ago and got accepted just now. 🤷🏻 Here we go!!!!

Wow! Feels great to have more storage. For those that have an Nmve ssd ready. Instal the update first before you put in the SSD. The system won’t load if you put the SSD in first.

Random thought, but I wonder if the way to go here is to go for the one with better thermals and power drain instead of just advertised peak performance.

Pick one that fits within Sony's spec, but look at reviews for power usage and thermals/throttling. Though granted PC based reviews may not accurately reflect PS5 numbers.

Or just buy what Cerny is buying and call it a day.

I’d do the research if I didn’t buy ahead of time when prices were low in April on the SN850. Went that was because initially WD had claimed they were the first NVME that would work with the PS5. Fluke Cerny went that way.

I got the Cerny edition SSD and notice no loud fans or over heating so far. Played about an hour of God of War. So far so good.

Well I installed the beta but I’m still going to wait on adding a drive until I need one. Since I don’t play CoD I still have about 500GB on the internal drive. All my PS4 games are on an external 2TB SSD. Nice to see the impressions from you all though.

God you guys are so pointlessly defensive.
I know what you mean. The "bu bu bu somebody told us" guys are the lowest rung on the shitposting ladder. They're literally the "buried in literal shit" level of shitposting. It's so annoying. They're right under the "I never had that problem with my console so your problem is because you don't take care of your things" guys who are "only have one upturned pinky finger sticking out of literal shit" shitposters.

Did some thorough testing with about 10 ps5 games and it's seamless as if played from internal system os ssd. no added noise or bugs so far after a few hours, click the link for a few images

Cerny is proud of you, have some Knack.

The WD 2TB with heat sink had a promotion for $120 off so I ordered one the other day, not sure if they are still going at that price but it cost me about $479.00 total and it arrived today.
