not everything is going to be perfect. They also introduced:
- paying for online play
- paying for dlc
- RROD
a real blessing
Sony will still be forced to make affordable consoles because of consumer and publisher pressure otherwise they can't build install bases for new gens.I find it hilarious that people are preaching Microsoft's exit from hardware business.
I mean. I'm sure Good Guy Sony® will make sure that their next console will be priced "competitively" (when there is no competition left) and I'm sure they won't have any reason to raise prices of PlayStation Plus again and prices of their first party games.
Jesus. People are just delusional.
But whatever. It would be funny when people will wait for Xbox first-party games on other platform in same way they are waiting for Microsoft's exit from console hardware business. "Any time now" since 2014
"The year is 2032 and I'm sure this will be year when Indiana Jones will finally come to PS5"
Let me put it this way:Yes. That's why most played and best selling games on PlayStation are FIFA, Fortnite and Call of Duty. Because "people wants exclusives"
Starfield and Redfall. It's never just one thing, but it may have been the straw that broke the camels back.
Because:Let me put it this way:
Since those games are on both Playstation and Xbox, why is Xbox dying?
1. And why was Playstation the preferred platform?Because:
1. PlayStation was always preferred platform. Even when they shot themselves in the foot(PS3 era), they still managed to outsell Xbox. And they have worse console with worse software lineup, worse online a worse features.
2. Because Xbox shot themselves in the foot in Xbox One era with more expensive and weaker console
3. Because huge reason to buy a console is "where my friends are" and if your Call of Duty and FIFA friends are on PlayStation, there is little reason to buy an Xbox.
Jim Ryan once said they believe in generations, yet we know how that turned out. Execs talk without knowing what they’re talking about.
News at 11.
‘We want to do our very best work in gaming, it’s a core business for us’
Was the quote.
Yup. Saw that this gen.Sony will still be forced to make affordable consoles because of consumer and publisher pressure otherwise they can't build install bases for new gens.
They will still need to be careful about prices because of increased competition from Xbox games on their platform and from Xcloud on any TV that runs Android (+ whatever deals xbox makes with other manufacturers, or if Xbox becomes an HDMI stick, for example).
Stop spreading FUD.
Fair enough.Ehhh. Not all people. Less boxes under my tv, the better.
1. Because by the time Xbox came to market, PlayStation was already at their second generation. Duh? By the time Xbox came to the market PS2 was already estabilished1. And why was Playstation the preferred platform?
2. That's Xbox in a nutshell
3. We have cross-platform as a standard now, so this isn't relevant anymore.
Quality exclusives are ultimately what gives the edge and that's exactly where Xbox is severly lacking.
This would only be more obvious if Xbox starts releasing their games on PlayStation and for the first time they would be directly competing with Sony's 1st party.
1. Sony was competing with Nintendo. There was PC as well.1. Because by the time Xbox came to market, PlayStation was already at their second generation. Duh? By the time Xbox came to the market PS2 was already estabilished
3. Now. But this was not the case at the start of PS4 generation when people built their digital libraries. And it was primary reason why Sony fought hard against cross-play implementation.
Xbox raised prices too, you seem to forget that. You also seem to ignore that the prices are higher because diminishing returns force the need for better hardware for smaller visual jumps.Yup. Saw that this gen.
Sony raised prices of consoles and players be like "let's buy more"
Sony raises prices of subscription and players be like "let's buy record amount of PS5"
Look. We know what happened last time when Sony felt untouchable in console space. It was called 599USD console in year of our lord 2007. Anybody who thinks Sony will have any reason to price their console competitive when they will be only company making consoles for newest FIFA, Call of Duty and for their first-party games is just delusional at this point. If you think that Sony would try to sell PS6 at a loss (which is done every gen for competitive reasons) with cornered market, you are just plain dumb.
Minecraft and Call of DutyBringing some of their games to all platforms

Yup. They are so mediocre that people are port-begging for them
Yes. That's why most played and best selling games on PlayStation are FIFA, Fortnite and Call of Duty. Because "people wants exclusives"
And try to explain to me again what incentive would Sony have to lose money on sales on console when they would control all the supply? (ie. gaming consoles that play big AAA games)Xbox raised prices too, you seem to forget that. You also seem to ignore that the prices are higher because diminishing returns force the need for better hardware for smaller visual jumps.
Sony sold the ps3 at 599 with a massive loss per unit, you need to be extremely ignorant to think they were happy about it.
With a bigger potential market, because of lack of Xbox, Sony can make even better deals for bulk components buying, and can still sell initially at a loss because they get their money back faster from games sales.
Aside from Nintendo, every console is sold initially at a loss.
That's not always the case lack of parts and issues over inflation and curriences can affect the price. I remember when the XBox 360 had a price rise in Europe because of' 'inflation' which everyone forgets even XBotsXbox raised prices too, you seem to forget that. You also seem to ignore that the prices are higher because diminishing returns force the need for better hardware for smaller visual jumps.
Don't worry mate. My Series X and PS5 are pretty comfortable along side each other. Because when I want to play games, I will buy a console and I don't need to port-beg hard enough that X company would bring some games to my preferred piece of plastic
I could have sworn Microsoft raised the price of Gamepass 3 months prior to Playstation increase in Sub prices. So much for competition.Yup. Saw that this gen.

It really depends I read that SONY was making massive losses for each and every PS1 sold on its launch In Japan and that was before SONY America announced the price of $299 which pissed off SONY Japan and meant even higher losses and led to SONY Japan getting rid of American staffAnd try to explain to me again what incentive would Sony have to lose money on sales on console when they would control all the supply? (ie. gaming consoles that play big AAA games)
Are you really that dumb to think that they would do that? Wouldn't it be better for Sony to earn huge margins from selling hardware and also from selling a software?
Yes. PS3 was 599$. Because they needed to be somewhat competitive with X360. There is no way they would be loosing 250$ per unit on the market where X360 would not exist.
Good thing then that soon you'll have to buy one less console, so you can spend more money on all those games.Don't worry mate. My Series X and PS5 are pretty comfortable along side each other. Because when I want to play games, I will buy a console and I don't need to port-beg hard enough that X company would bring some games to my preferred piece of plastic
Don't worry.
If Xbox games will be released on PlayStation they will directly compete with Sony 1st party and their mediocrity will become even more obvious.
Nah. Game Pass is still best service on the market. So if Microsoft will exit console hardware business I will just move to PC where Game Pass exists today. It would be similar investment then two consoles per genGood thing then that soon you'll have to buy one less console, so you can spend more money on all those games.
Because nobody will buy a 800-1000$ console that shows small upgrades over the previous one because of diminishing returns. And try to explain to me again what incentive would Sony have to lose money on sales on console when they would control all the supply? Then it's a win-win and would show the benefits of losing Xbox as a platform-holder.What happens if their games end up selling as well as Sony first party IP on Sony hardware? that would sure be interesting to see.
Then Sega, Nintendo, Atari etc should beating the breaks of Playstation no?1.

And that's exactly why Xbox as a console has become irrelevant.Nah. Game Pass is still best service on the market. So if Microsoft will exit console hardware business I will just move to PC where Game Pass exists today. It would be similar investment then two consoles per gen
So wait.Because nobody will buy a 800-1000$ console that shows small upgrades over the previous one because of diminishing returns.
Just look at current gen. It started announcing consoles capable of 8k and we're already back at 1080p just to barely maintain 60fp, and we're only at the middle of the gen.
And that's exactly why Xbox as a console has become irrelevant.
If it stops existing, nothing will be lost for the industry.
The Avengers continue to assemble.Satya's the man. He's invited to my next birthday party
So wait.
You are claiming that nobody would buy 800$ console on the market where there is not a possibility of accessing AAA games from big publishers any other way?
Bold prediction, since PS5 consoles were selling at even higher prices during months after PS5 release.
But okay.
Bro if Sony ups the price too much they risk getting cannibalized by PC.So wait.
You are claiming that nobody would buy 800$ console on the market where there is not a possibility of accessing AAA games from big publishers any other way?
Maybe, but I'm just stating a fact. You're living in a wet dream if you think MS will give it up. Its turning in billions in revenue. It stagnated due to content. Microsoft failed at making the console appealing enough.
MS is all in on gamepass. I know this news is making a lot of you sony guys think Microsoft is just going to crawl to sony and please to have their games on the platform with no benefit to MS but it's not reality. IF games come to playstation, MS is going to push to make it as absolutely appealing as possible for their Xbox division. That means either gamepass on wherever the games go, or at least an Xbox sign in so they can start luring customers, email contacts etc. That MAU data is what sings to shareholders.
I would like to think they will continue to make hardware, separate themselves from this console wars shit and just sell hardware like any other manufacturer does.
Why do companies like Asus make a ROG Ally to only sell a few million? if they produce the system correctly they can make money on it and a sales number doesnt matter.
30% store margins etc is still very important to MS, and GAMEPASS is everything to them.
and I repeat, MS and Satya are doing their best to make sure this FTC case goes away for ABK and what better way to do it than say competition is great, the games will come everywhere so whats everyones problem.
At that time the price of everything (even through to luxury goods such as high end watches and jewelry) was going up because global supply chain and logistics had grind to a halt. There was also the added fact that people were stuck at home with a bunch of excess cash and had nothing better to do with it.
What the hell are these disingenuous bullshit arguments?
So you really think that Sony would be willingly selling PlayStation consoles at a loss on market when Xbox is not making consoles?Bro if Sony ups the price too much they risk getting cannibalized by PC.
Sony console hegemony would translate in different ways, and it would not be without competition.
It's basic marketing.So wait.
You are claiming that nobody would buy 800$ console on the market where there is not a possibility of accessing AAA games from big publishers any other way?
Bold prediction, since PS5 consoles were selling at even higher prices during months after PS5 release.
But okay.
You would make a poor businessman, the money isn’t in hardware, it’s software which is why they always subsidise costs on it, it has nothing to do with competition but getting people through the gate to spend real money. So you really think that Sony would be willingly selling PlayStation consoles at a loss on market when Xbox is not making consoles?
I really admire your optimism. Or stupidity.

”The math ain’t mathing” for lots of things when the real goal is set further out in the future. The math ain't mathing.
He wasn't okay to begin with.Someone check if Tim Dog is okay.
Yeah this is more like it tbh, atm MS is using the same vague language they always do that leaves a huge amount of interpretation.I mean, they just made an aquisition that they will be putting on Sony and Nintendo ... of course they're publishing for all platforms. They'll have strategic first-party exclusives (by exclusive I mean Xbox and PC) and then games (e.g. COD, or older titles) they can publish multi-plat console. Unless I've missed sometyhing?
