They were not able to have satisfying results with home console market so instead of going to do something else, they are changing our industry and taking it down with them as they transfer to doing something else.
They lost and are changing the industry in a way to maximise profit. Services and gaas. It’s bad in a long term for games.

And of course that would say they look to the future and that classic gone console is going away because they lost in the present.
And all I want is classic home consoles with physical media and normal games. That’s it. Just continue the industry as it was created and why we love it. Like Nintendo with some faults even.

I mean it’s a game console and games business. They could both probably make more money doing real estate or selling cars if they are not happy with revenue. Changing whole industry because they can squeeze more money is just scummy

I don't think you need a trojan horse. Let's just use PlayStation as the hypothetical. As long as the subscription and any potential game sales, DLC sales, MTX sales, etc. are transacted through PSN (so Sony gets their 30% cut) and any online components utilize Sony's infrastructure, I don't see Sony saying no as it is no different than EA Play or GTA+.

They absolutely would reject that because Playstation wants it customers to not feel some type of way about buying games. Especially a game like CoD that generates the revenue it does. It's the reason they rejected Microsoft offer of putting CoD in PS plus day and date if Sony offer enough money. All those other subscriptions available on the Playstation platforms offer there back catalogue because Playstation is cognisant of effects of subscription have on the value of the product.

Pretty sure this is about having enough IPs and studios to isolate Gamepass into a platform bubble on it’s own to push out everywhere, not physical and digital Xbox games on other consoles.

They’ll likely start doing Gamepass exclusives too since Gamepass is essentially their platform and they know exclusives is how you drive people to your platform.

I could be wrong but I don’t think I am.

Don’t know if Call of Duty could be used as a Trojan horse to get Gamepass onto other platforms. It’ll be something that is deemed to be significant in the market like that anyway. Won’t be Hi-Fi Rush.

Microsoft is potentially bring more of its games to other platforms because it needs immediate ROI after all these investments it made and your talking about making it games exclusively to Gamepass. There by destroying the value of the assets whilst pissing away Billions in revenue, SMDH.

Microsoft doesn't have the leverage you think it does, Nintendo aren't dependent on Activision one bit so wouldn't be losing anything monetarily and PlayStation whilst definitely feeling the loss of the 30% cut would be in a much better position than the company who loses 70% whilst cost of the game remains the same and the majority of the people in it's ecosystem access it via a subscription at no additional cost. The math ain't mathing.

I look forward to PlayStation gamers subsiding the games I get to play through my GP sub. I get to play games on the cheap, you get to purchase games at full price, everybody's happy.

Good luck with your GaaS push when MS is looking to beat you to your own market with their own wildly successful GaaS titles. I guess you'll just have to be happy with the 30%.
Bingo that's literally what it is. Gamepass was a play to attract people who weren't in ecosystem who built backlog in another ecosystem. They wanted to reduce the friction between switching consoles. By offering people there entire catalogue, which as a whole didn't sell much for a low monthly fee.

In hopes they would capture a significant share of there competition audience, who would make up the lost revenue from there lack of 1st party sales from subs, mtx and third party games bought.

". . .deliver them to folks across all platforms, right, which is Xbox and consoles. . ." I reckon that pretty much removes some doubt about the future. What are the odds Hellblade 2 gets announced for PS5 as well? I sure would like to play it with the advanced haptics of the Dualsense.
They are done with console. They want their games everywhere like all phones, pc, devices and CLOUD.
and stupid Sony will follow them without fucking realizing that there is no money there if they don’t have Microsoft money.
Just be like Nintendo. Confident and content in a classic model people want.

He said xbox consoles! That's me happy.

I say go for it. Make even more bank, that's what a business is there to do. Just give me my option to buy an xbox and keep pushing that hardware.

If they truly aren't bothered about console sales. Make me a 799 xbox that has 3d cache and a beastly gpu. Allow those that want a beefy xbox console to get it. Stop competing with Sony and what those console buyers think is the right budget, push a higher end option for thise willing to pay and sell 10 million of them.

Meanwhile, the statement:
"We think that now, we have the ability to really do what we've always set out to do, which is to build great games and deliver them to folks on all platforms."

Khaby GIF
Nice of him to admit they don't currently make great games.

If this really is the announcement of third party then they will still fail at gaming if they think other console owners are going to buy the stuff they've shoveled out for gamepass recently.

Microsoft isn't the company pushing gaas games. The industry is. Even Sony are...or were....these companies will make what works. If people don't buy gaas games, Microsoft or Sony won't make them.

Simple. There's nothing to worry about, if the buyers don't want gaas games. If the people do, then that's a different problem you need to get your head around

The console war is finally over. We should celebrate by playing video games

Its far from over. Watch as MS teams up with someone who wants into the console business.........(hint it has a apple logo).......and they just happen to make thier own ARM based chip......hmmm.......
Or ms could release it's own hybrid handheld still, at a very competitive price. Maybe they take the Nintendo route, one system, who cares if it's powerfull.

Very vague wording in that clip. I think that they will continue the Xbox console line, but go the Nintendo route in terms of hardware. Cut back on the bleeding edge specs that are sold at a loss, but keep the console line as set spec boxes for cheap, to sell to casual audiences who want to get into the ecosystem, much like the surface tablets/laptops.

They might even try to create a Steam Deck competitor or team up with Asus ROG/Lenovo Legion so that their portable windows experience can try to measure up better to other portable consoles. They will most likely try to finally merge the Xbox/Windows into one easy to use adaptable OS to accomplish this.

MS is a software company first and foremost, and I think they just want people using their software regardless of what does or doesn't work. The circle has been closing in on them when it comes to intuitive portable experiences like iOS and android, and they can't rely solely on AI to bail them out.

I feel 100 percent confident they are sticking in the hardware space. It just makes sense for them. Especially since the apple and epic news. You need your own marketplace and platform for the US.

Satya doing what he does best. The ftc are still on microsofts back about Activision and Microsoft want it to close and fuck off.

Start acting like you are third party, sit there and answer all the gamers questions in this vague way a month from now....ftc get shut down by a judge who sees this stuff and thinks MS are going full third party.

Start looking to release your games on any platform that will have gamepass or xbox accounts....if Sony shut it down, send the messaging down to the shills that Microsoft wanted to out gears collection on playstation but big bad Sony said no. Social media catch on, fireworks

It's typical Microsoft approach we have seen for years. They are clever with this stuff, to get what they want. They will push to get their os, or their xbox platform wherever it can go. They want MAUs. Sony are free to say no, but they will absolutely be negotiating to try and get the best deal for them. We will see how badly they want it.

If games launch on playstation with no xbox sign In, we can see how desperate they were to make money of software sales alone.

This would be like some alternate earth where Superman and Lex Luthor become best friends and rule earth together, making Brainiac the hero.

I agree with this possibility however, and I think it's highly likely MS does this or teams up with Legion Go/ROG Ally.

Regardless they need to fix their portable interfaces so that they are much, much better and less resource heavy than what they currently are now.

We already have a platform for those people...

Good. Maybe they can start porting stuff to PlayStation by the end of the generation.

My guess is they make a single expensive SKU “benchmark” console that doesn’t really compete with PlayStation and can be sold at a small margin.
Yea I could see that as well, they'd probably make a lot of money doing that as well

No chance, Satya is a visionary much like Spencer and when they talk about gaming they're talking about the future of gaming and where its headed. The here and now is a very different landscape and Microsoft are first and foremost building Gamepass on Xbox and PC.

I miss arrogant microsoft
i miss clever xbox, arrogant MS sucked, just buying all studios for consolidation sucks.

i miss them forcing Sonys hand for cross-play, forcing Sony and Nintendo to improve their Online offerings.

Without XBL and XBGG we wouldn't have PS+ or Nintendo Switch Online. Without gamepass (and EA play to be fair) we wouldn't have PS + Premium or Ubisoft +.

That's the Microsoft/Xbox that i miss, the ones who innovated and forced their competitors to get with the times.

Until he say PlayStation or Nintendo. Not holding my breath for it
Tim Stuart, the CFO, who was sitting beside Satya in this interview, has already name-dropped the two consoles in a previous interview:

"It's a bit of a change of strategy. Not announcing anything broadly here, but our mission is to bring our first-party experiences and our subscription services to every screen that can play games," Stuart said. "That means smart TVs, that means mobile devices, that means what we would have thought of as competitors in the past like PlayStation and Nintendo."

Interesting he says "Xbox and consoles". This seems to indicate their strategy, as was suggested in the leaks.

Ps plus existed prior to Games for Gold being a thing, in fact it was a direct response to PS plus. However I get your premises of what your saying.

- paying for dlc
- RROD

I find it hilarious that people are preaching Microsoft's exit from hardware business.

I mean. I'm sure Good Guy Sony® will make sure that their next console will be priced "competitively" (when there is no competition left) and I'm sure they won't have any reason to raise prices of PlayStation Plus again and prices of their first party games.

Jesus. People are just delusional.

But whatever. It would be funny when people will wait for Xbox first-party games on other platform in same way they are waiting for Microsoft's exit from console hardware business. "Any time now" since 2014 :messenger_tears_of_joy::messenger_tears_of_joy:

Sorry Xbros, but this is your fault.

You should have asked more of MS years ago instead of always saying yes to Halo & Gears endless turds
You should have been ultra vocal when it was announced that all games would come to PC day 1, thus killing Xbox exclusives and the attractivity of the platform
You definitely should not have stop buying games by subscribing to the ridiculous Gamepass, thus making 3rd parties go away

Now it's too late.
To be fair, xbox was always marketed as the dude bro mountain dew console :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Don't worry.

If Xbox games will be released on PlayStation they will directly compete with Sony 1st party and their mediocrity will become even more obvious.

Yup. They are so mediocre that people are port-begging for them :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:
There will always be people port-begging on any platform.

It's mostly the idea of Xbox games being available on Playstation/Nintendo. If people really wanted Xbox exclusives, Xbox would be successful. But they're irrelevant.

And like I said, if such a scenario, Xbox games mediocrity will become painfully obvious.
