FF16 is another game that should have been 30fps only. No one used the half working 60fps mode as it crippled the image quality.

This seems like it would have been another case of that, given even the 30fps mode doesn't seem to look super sharp going by the preview footage.

Devs need to fully embrace 120hz 40fps.

That console generation have been a disappointment since the beginning... The promise of 60fps... When you see how bad FFXVI looks on PS5 in each modes, when you see how it is hard to adapt to the frame rate of Starfield...

I'm looking forward to this game but not at 30fps. Makes me want to switch back to PC.

That is shit.

Dont give FROM anymore ideas, those guys need to pull their finger out and get a locked 60fps for anything going forward.

I hope this is caused by massive physics\interaction with the world\npcs\pawns and not by ineptitude.

Yeah of course.
No matter really. This really feels like Dead Rising animations which felt right at 30fps.
Heavy gameplay, heavy animations. Sure, whatever.

30fps is rarely if ever something to make me skip the game. I am not a fake gamer that is too proud because he discovered 60fps lol. I game for almost 30 years. Game is what matters.

That said - there is a pc version and rengine is great on pc. so I don't see a problem. I might even end up with pc version
That is kinda bullshit.

You can play monster hunter world and rdr2 at 240 frames and they still feel way more heavy than dogma 1 (and probably dogma 2 aswell).

Frame counter is not related to how heavy animations look\feel.

30fps didn’t become common until the 360/PS3 gen. Before than 60fps was more common.
That's not true for the more demanding games on the old consoles or the ones trying to offer a more open world style of games. Trying playing SOC on the PS2 and the so-called king of 60 FPS could barely handle 20 FPS for that game . The Dreamcast had to drop the frames to handle Shenmue and the Game Cube not only had to drop to 30 for RE4 but also add a bordered display even on an NTSC system

All In the good old days before we had social media and DF saying any game is unplayable below 30 FPS no drama queens just going on whats trending

After Monster Hunter World and Exoprimal both having performance modes, this potential news is not only concerning but also raises a question based on how their other games have handled things.

The only thing I can think of that's buckling the performance is the inclusion of multiple physics systems interacting with each other. Throwing a barrel into dynamite which explodes a rock wall, causing a waterfall that blows over trees, grass, enemies, and building structures, is no small feat for a game that's also running at up to 4k on current gen graphics(for Capcom).

There's a good reason why games like The Finals, Teardown, Red Faction Guerilla, or Bad Company a few and far between and I think the devs behind this game are finding out why.

Dude it's basically the same thing you do in the rathalos nest in mhw, fixed precanned destruction in specific places it's not the nextgen feature you think it is, you can destroy some trees, plants, big rocks and metal\wood\rock structures and use physics based traps in both horizon games and those games are considered bottom feed in term of world interactions here on gaf (and the sequel run at 60 fps while looking 2x times better) :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

It's not like you can blow up any trees or rock you see, hell i saw giant enemies swinging weapons that pass through trees like they are not there, the game doesn't have "total destruction" or nowhere near that (from what they showed)

I think that the world simulation with the npcs and pawns and enemies ecosystem could be the culprit (or other physics systems they haven't showed yet) but sure as hell not some precanned destruction when we had mercenaries 2 and red faction on a damn ps2 and ps3.

Low fps has always been a issue to those in the know.
It's more of a talked about issue because modern gamers are more in the know these days.

It was bound to happen, eventually. These consoles CPUs are weak now.

Sure, but they are several times more powerful than the previous gen Jaguars, and this game doesn't look several times more complex than the original (which was on PS360) to my eyes.

Even in the Snes and Mega Drive era, the consoles had drop the frames to handle demanding games.
Can you imagine if we had DF in the 16-bit days? Star Fox and Road Rash would be labelled unfit for release and totally unplayable and Geoff Crammand's F1 GP2 a total mess on the PC as even on a Pentium it was below 30 FPS

Man, the people constantly whining about 30fps because the visuals "aren't good enough" are obnoxious. The game is mostly likely CPU-bound.

Please, tell me of another console game running at 60fps that has:
  • Interactive physics simulation for most objects in the world, even water/fluids which is notoriously expensive
  • Destructible environments and terrain, such as blowing up a wall of rock to divert the course of a river
  • Advanced AI for enemies and pawns for dealing with many dynamic situations, coordination, and exploiting the environment
  • Ability to climb all monsters and most terrain
  • Gigantic towering enemies that are embedded in the open world instead of a separate scene
  • Roaming NPCs that react to environment
  • Day and night cycle routines for NPCs
  • Roaming enemies in the open world (i.e. no static placement)
  • Knowledge system and representation so that pawns gain experience fighting specific monsters and completing quests
  • Insane magic spells that would exploit the previously mentioned physics and destructible environments
  • Real-time, animation-based combat with very precise collision testing (intersection of polygons) and all the hit-box porn that comes with it
I swear, people look at a game and only judge performance off of the visuals. They completely disregard the plethora of other things that could put strain on hardware resources.
Stop being reasonable. This thread is for going full retard.

Thanks for some common sense. Some gamers focus on just getting the same games at higher framerate and higher resolution and then complaining about games feeling samey is ridiculous.

I’m not talking about this. I’m talking about devs and publishers adding an option across the board (performance mode), advertising it, then removing said option in the very same generation. That is a valid reason of criticism, cynicism, and whining.

I don’t believe there’s any single publisher that promised you 60fps across the entire generation, let alone ‘advertised’ it.
Console specs are fixed, dated at 2020 era hardware and gamers expect increasing visual quality as the gen goes by. Something has to give.

Great list, though heavily padded. I’m not sure what the ability to climb all monsters has to do with framerate 😀

The 30fps talk is overblown. Most people don’t care. A large number of the GOTY games over the past decade have been at 30fps. And we’ve survived.

Interesting perspectives here. Not buying a game because it isn't 60fps? On that basis, I'd assume that this is the vast majority's first console generation, because 30fps was the standard and 60fps was basically for fighting games, some FPS and most track racers.

Looking at the specs on Steam, 4K30 requires a 2080 and 3600X, whereas 1080p30 requires a 1070. I'd be surprised if consoles weren't hitting 60fps at 1080p. If you're after a performance mode, 1080p will look a touch soft but should be fine and I don't see why they should leave out performance if they can reach it. If you don't like the sounds of 1080p, your expectations are obviously wild.

Also, this is a rumor, it hasn't been announced that the game is 30fps so take a breath and wait for proof.

Yeah people that play mainly on consoles complaining about 30fps...like, that's the norm since the PS3 era. I'm more shocked this gen has had so many titles with both modes...

I played the first game on PS3. When I bought it again for PS4 expecting 60 fps, I was surprised to see it at 30 fps. Now, a new game with similar graphics on PS5 is at 30 fps too? Is there no 1080p 60 fps performance mode at all? If these consoles can't deliver 60 fps with these graphics, I wonder how they'll manage to run GTA 6 at 30 fps. I think there's an issue with the developers.

30 fps is not cool, but it's strange to see so many console-only gamers all of a sudden take this "only 30fps, no buy"-approach.
PC players are used to higher framerates since forever, but for PC players this is a non-issue anyway.

I see lots of "no 30fps no buy" and the even funnier "no OLED? No buy (for nintendos new console)
Maybe it's time for some of these folks to get a solid gaming PC? They're expecting all the bells and whistles in a low speced and cheap console, which of course will be a continuing let down for quite some time.
You can't always have the best of both worlds without having access to both worlds.

Rockstar have one of the best engine on the market. And yes you are right. Besides seeing how terrible the image quality was on their last RE engine game on PS5, I don't have any hope here. We'll probably have FSR2 at 30fps destroying everything it can, as usual. And the usual channels will praise the game as if everyone had a monster PC like what happened with Alan Wake 2.

As things progress, I think its reasonable for people to expect more. When I started gaming I was on a black and white CRT. Would you tell me to stay playing on that? I've got a huge library on my PS5 and XSX consoles and all of them have either 60fps or 40fps+ modes. I'm even more picky in that I generally avoid games without HDR too. The consoles seem very capable of delivering 60fps and even greater. I'm doing fine without a PC. Theres room for lots of different shapes and sizes on multiple platforms. Its up to the customer what they want from a product. imo its no bad thing to be pushing for more.

I switched to pc during ps3 gen because most games were running like shit. I only bought PS4 for few exclusives. Ps5 on the other hand has good amount of games with good performance (so far).

Fake gamer. So you play game for its fps of for its game?!

I'm sorry but slide show with high input lag is not for me, there are some decent 30fps games with low input lag and motion blur but most of them are really painful. I'm forced to play PS4 version of P5R right now and while resolution is decent this 30fps is killing me, I'm not paying them money to patch game to ps5 standards so maybe I will endure... Or maybe I will just switch to P3R this Friday and play 4k120fps on pc 🙂

Not sure why people expected a 60fps mode when all of the preview footage so far has been in 30fps. Hate to say it but there just doesn’t seem to be any technical wizard devs in Japan these days. RE 7 & 8 looked and ran great on consoles but the environments were all very constrained.

The real problem is not a 30fps game ( It is a problem ) the real problem is: is this locked at 30fps aways ? And frame pacing must be rock solid , now If frame rate inst locked and frame pacing is anything close to Bloodborne i m out.
