Projecting The 12 Live Service Games At PlayStation

Sony are top tier and dominant when it comes to their single player blockbuster titles. Now imagine if they're able to bring that same level of quality and storytelling to their live service titles. We could be in for some truly memorable experiences. Some of these titles will no doubt launch on PC and mobile as well given the direction they're going in, so the potential market is huge. Hell, Sony Group already has a taste of what sort of money they can pull in with mobile gaming via Fate/Grand Order which has pulled in 5.4 billion dollars in 6 years as of July 2021. No doubt they wanna try and replicate that level of success under SIE.

I think everyone is agreement with what you said.

But you'll get some hardcore ecosystem warriors who don't want that to happen because they hate when their games get played by other gamers on other platforms.

Because they suck at it. Their MP-centric output during PS3 was mediocre at best. And now it's gonna be infested with mtx-galore. No thanks. Stick to your strengths and what you do best.
That’s not true.
They made Warhawk, which is the best online game ever made.

Problem with their PS3 era was they shotgunned so many shooters it spread the online base thin. MS just focused on Halo and Gears, Activision was COD, EA was BF. The drips and drabs were cut off fast like MoH, Crysis and any other MP games they made.

If Sony was going to go MP, they should had focused a lot more effort into maybe 1-2 franchises and stick with it. PS3 era they had Resistance, KZ, MAG, SOCOM, Warhawk, Haze exclusivity from UBI. Then they tried to latch PS3 onto those big battle games like Planetside and Dust 514. By the looks of it they tried more shooter franchises than all the other key companies combined.

It scared off Sony so much all they did for PS4 is KZ Shadowfall at launch. They they ditched MP shooter franchises since then (a decade).

They are trying the same thing again with all their GAAS games coming out. Not all are shooters. They still got GT and baseball. But GAAS games usually revolve around sports or shooters. Since Sony doesn't makes other sports games aside from baseball, it'll likely trend to shooters again unless they try something different like deck building games, mobile, gem matching games, Diablo kind of game etc....

So basically you think you know what the outcome of their live service endeavor will be (you don't, none of us do), and are saying they shouldn't even try without seeing what they're actually doing.

Yes. They should cease this folly at once. GaaS is pure garbage and will always be, no matter what developer is behind it. It's rotten to the core.

So how about waiting to see what they're actually working on before dismissing this strategy?

No.

No.

Welp, if they're able to deliver some experiences on par with Destiny and Destiny 2 then I'll be sold. I've got thousands of hours logged in both those games.

It would be nifty if they give us a MP Horizon game with different classes where we can go on a wide variety of missions and hunt massive machines. There's certainly a lot of potential there. We know Guerrilla have a second team working on a MP title, it's just a question of what exactly that title is.

Sony live services games? No interest. (such as extended single player tent pole games to GaaS).

Bungie live service games?....you have my curiosity.

Per Sony, when they said they had 25 games in the works 12 were live service. By default they are making at least 13 non live service games.
While this is technically correct, it's worth pointing out that probably more than half of those 13 other games are PSVR2 related, and thusly it probably rings true that we will see less "traditional" single player focused offerings, which to me personally, sucks.

Because they've stopped the single player games?

As for some of the 12 GaaS games
Gran Turismo 7
MLB The Show
Destruction All-Stars (failed)
TLOU Online
Twisted Metal
Destiny 2
Bungie's next game
Haven's game

Sony does not consider GT live service, nor do games already out (including Destiny) count. It's literally in the OP.
