Online Games: DS vs PSP

Because you're having oh-so-much fun with the 30 other people on Twisted Metal: Head-On?

It's like Xbox 360 fanboys bragging that they get Final Fantasy XI first before PS3 gets a remake of Final Fantasy VII.

Better than the 0 people you're playing with on the DS.

Its like my Darkstalkers game and Need for Speed Underground Rivals.. The box and manual say Infrastructure but it was LAN infrastructure ... could be the same for these =[

Damn sony and there misleading "infrastructures" =[

What are you talking about? This is a little different than the marking on the back of a box.

:lol That made absolutely no sense whatsoever!

(unless there is a secret clan of XBOX 360 fanboys currently playing Final Fantasy XI and laughing at me from the shadows...)

Awesome, thanks.

And seriously, where the hell are the FFVII remake/FFXI and RE4/Outbreak comparisons coming from? That has nothing to do with anything.

98 online at the moment and, yes, having quite a bit of fun, thanks :)

I agree - it's stupid that he's never tried a PSP online game. Doesn't know what he's missing.

Jarrod, nothing's confirmed about Burnout Legends or Battlefront 2 being online. NBA 06, however, will be online again like the first one on PSP .

Er, what? I'm not digging through IGN for offhand quotes and I've asked for links from every other poster for both DS and PSP games.

IGN also says nothing about Battlefield 2 having infastructure support except speculation from last April that it'd be online. There's an insider video interview that might clairify if anyone wants to help sort the issue out though.

Ahhh...right right...but you put up Pokemon Diamond on speculation of WiFi not specifically saying anything on playing over the internet/infrastructure versus each other, and from IGN no less but won't put up Star Wars Battlefront 2 and Battlefield Modern Combat on IGN strong speculation? Both games built up around internet play, regardless what you think about monster hunter. Matter of fact I would be interested in links on all your supposed internet play titles and what hard facts you have since you bring it up.

Infected also has an infrastructure mode, they are working on play but for now you can log onto their servers and check on formed teams, your infection rate and see excactly who you have infected and where.

But please don't put these on your precious list, I would rather have a nice chuckle as i'm playing star wars battlefront on my psp over infrastructure come fall.

psp.ign.com confirmed that Infected will not be playable online. Everything is through local wireless.

Read what I wrote again, and how are you still around after what you pulled yesterday?

Developers are saying that Sony is being really, really difficult to work with regarding online. Nobody knows why yet - speculation is that they want their own network to be involved, but the current games can't use it, so that doesn't make much sense. The more informed say that Sony is really nervous about developers having too much access to the PSP right now, for some reason. They don't want extra layers built into software besides game code, even though you'd be in the game environment when you use it. Even industry standard applications like GameSpy's match-up servers, developers can't get Sony to grant them access to connect between those guys' software solutions and PSP hardware.

That's unfortunate. So why are they continuing to let SCE devs release online games in such a climate?

so they're setting up their own centrailized network?, or are they just hesitant to provide support for third parties??

Fair enough, I'll take Pokemon DP off. I think it a Battlefield 2 will probably be online though, while Star Wars and Burnout probably won't going by what we know. Strong speculation is still just speculation though, and it doesn't help that IGN admits they really have no solid indications on Battlefield 2 being online. After Monster Hunter (a game also built around online play), you really can't take anything for granted.

Easy enough for the DS stuff at least...

Can I get a link that online play is being worked on? It'd be nice if you could provide at least one link in this thread...

I think you're in for a surprise then... according to IGN, it's maximum 4 player only on PSP, versus 24 on PS2, 32 on Xbox or 64 on PC. Essentially, the PSP game allows what the other verisons do for split screen multiplayer... add to that the fact that the PSP SKU is mysteriously left out every time online is detailed and I seriously doubt this one's going to be online.

That's strange given that just at GDC SCEA reps were saying that PSP online could be done the same as PS2 online. What changed?

I think you can trade souls or something online with Castlevania. Yay.

No no, there is apparently a different Castlevania in the works with more online aspects, from what I've heard

How are we going to get online with the DS? We're going to have to buy a separate adapter?

I think that tech is built into the hardware, and you'll need to be around a wi-fi adapter at a hotspot or at home.

Just to make sure I'm not hallucinating, but is this the same Bomberman which is already out and which doesn't have online play?

All you'll need is a wireless router.

Not even that, a wi-fi adapter for your PC for those who want to keep their current non wifi router set-ups. I heard Nintendo might release the accessory as well, but it may just be rumors.

These are all "real games". Besides, it's only like 2-3 months until we start getting the next wave of online handheld games. :)

I cant believe that the DS version of winning eleven(pro evo soccer) will support online yet the psp version wont. WTF?

so is it reaonsably confirmed that Nintendo is making it easier for publishers to get online than Sony is?

wait a minute. I REALLY need to take a look at that again.......

you know, for all my shit I give the PSP (and I really despise the system and the money I dropped on it) I do think it kicks ass that handhelds as a whole are FINALLY (well, after 11/14) online. That is just awesome. Now if Sony would actually get more games online (can't tunnel at starbucks).

DCharlie

And even i am moderately surprised
"I don't care..come Sep no crappy GAF lists will peel me away from this game. :p"

actually - if they don't fix it, it'll be _you_ peeling yourself away from the PSP by the medium of throwing it across the room screaming "What the hell is this crock??"

Winning Eleven was on Nintendo's list of WiFi service games to feature inclusion of the service, but so far, there's been nothing made of that list to substantiate that they're all online playable games. Bomberman was on there, but one came and went and another was just announced with no online mode, so who knows how far that list reaches and which of those games will be playable. That whole list was vaporware as far as actually having plans set and technology working, as far as I know. We'll see plenty of support on it, but this list can't be taken as gospel for how strong the service is at this point.

I just saw a listing for a "Sega Casino Games" for the DS, scheduled for release in a few weeks... surprised it isn't online.

Actually, I'd half expect Sega to be the ones cramming online features into all their new DS titles.

I am a bit surprised we aren't seeing more online games by Christmas, though. Mario Kart, Tony Hawk, Top Spin Tennis, and Animal Crossing -- that's it?

(Why was Ultimate Card Games delayed, anyway?)

Gahiggidy

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
By the way, how is Nintendo making money off these online games?

They make money by selling the DS and the wireless dongle, foo.

BTW, I've been reading Lost Magic supports Wi-Fi so that's another for the list. Sorry if it's old :)

its a bit like Monsters Inc. Every now and they they feed Nintendo fans with a little nugget of mostly harmless info. Then, when they've worked themselves into a frenzy, they absorb all that nerd-energy, which they then sell to local businesses.
