I think the game looks good. Just not as good as HFW. Slightly disappointed though.
Shouldnt we expect this ps5 exclusive to look as good or better than a cross gen game though?

I'm still surprised that people still believe in bullshot teasers from Sony. After Killzone 2, Motorstorm. Uncharted 4 (totally in-engine and running on PS4).I think they (its not just them) do risk 'de-valuing' the terms 'in-engine' and 'captured on ps5' with videos like the first one.
... Dude was clearly joking but John took it seriously
Uncharted 4 looks better. Seriously
Watch this sequence again and tell me that a PS4 cant do the chase sequence from Spider-Man 2
The traversal speed cant be done on PS4, or jumping from Peter to Miles, but in terms of visual presentation?
Compare them
Yeah it's crazy that 3 years in this gen and a cross gen game's still the best looking game.Shouldnt we expect this ps5 exclusive to look as good or better than a cross gen game though?
How exactly would you know that? We haven’t even seen what night time looks like, and it says it’s running on PS5 in the trailer. Sony had no problem pointing out some of the trailers were CG at the showcase. People like freak out as usual over shit like this, I’ll wait until the final product’s out & then we’ll talk.
The bullshit was the original “reveal” trailer.
People think PS5 is some beast of a system using bleeding edge technology.
Euh Ratchet is the best looking game. Ratchet wasn’t open world though.Yeah it's crazy that 3 years in this gen and a cross gen game's still the best looking game.
I'm disappointed but it's really not that bad like people said.
From what they showed in the showcase your guess my end 99% true , this first teaser maybe cgi trailer after all. It's obvious from the gameplay that this game looks nothing like that trailer.
I guess it was a 4k CG cutscene just running on the PS5 they captured it from....
Now do this with The Last of Us remaster on PS4 and The Last of Us Part 2.
Right...
Sorry the truth hurts you.

What is even your argument now? You are now shifting the goalposts.
And for the people trying to bring in tech demos as an argument,
Y'all are smarter than this. Stop it. Get some help.
That was NOT my argument. At all.Its OK to admit that Spider-Man 2 looks incredibly mid and there is no guarantee that it will see a graphical boost prior to launch. There have been far more cases of games getting graphical downgrades from initial gameplay presentations to release than there have been the other way around.
That was NOT my argument. At all.
It's okay to actually follow the conversation with context and nuance as well. And see the disingenuous shifts and the most pathetic of all, dragging in tech demos as some sort of gotcha.
Because then, tech demos can apply to EVERY GAME IN EXISTANCE, so throw them all in the mid trash bin then.
Sorry then, thought I was following the arguments, but I did just wake up and take a 4 hour long exam. Brain is a bit fried. What exactly was your argument so I and others don't make the same mistake?
This was my original argument and it is 100% fact about certain shader effects not being present in early builds of these demo slices, and in final they are fully there. We have the very threads on here to see people constantly repeating the same FUD concern trolling and then going AWOL when final has them. It happened with HZD, happened with the grass in GoT, then happened again with HFW and the expansion.
Every time they say the grass doesn't react to the character or that shader effect is missing, 99% of the time it's there in the final builds. We have been through this before from Horizon to Uncharted, to Ghost of Tsushima and back to Horizon again recently. Hell, we went hought it with Spider-Man puddlegate when all they did was move the puddles around.
Now you're on some gas. But I remember your username.

if its only about having slightly better gameplay and ps4 graphics what's the value of buying a ps5 or have next gen consoles?Where is the gameplay is king energy. Looked good to me. Not at least interested in spiderman, but it looked fun and to say the graphics is underwhelming is just strange.

That's pretty revisionist. What a fucking strawman. Imagine spending all that money on a next gen console to get PS4 level graphics. Why not just stay on PS4? People here aren't complaining about some stupid textures or water.
This is a watch dogs moment. They hyped us with the next gen looking in engine teaser, then show potato graphics. Do you not see the problem?
I think that the part in which Miles goes into the garage to go look for the Lizzard doesn’t look that much different from the teaser from last year. As for the rest of the gameplay, I see a lot of ray tracing reflections and reactive elements on the map (vegetation - including short grass - reacting to the wind) and a lot of fluidity in the animations. I see a clear step up comparing to the first game. If they solve the LOD issues I’ll be more than happy.

And to say TLoU2's animations were "the same as most AAA games last gen" is an outright lie. Look, there can be criticism, but certain user's post histories go above and beyond that and these threads are like flies to honey when they come out of the dormant alt account woodwork, and as far as that disingenuous clown, I should have known better than to engage with, has a ripe history of that.
For crying out loud, some people are using TECH DEMOS to try and win an argument. TECH DEMOS!
If that's the case, we can spam every single game EVER MADE with the disingenuous tech demo arguments.
This goes beyond constructive criticisms and into lunacy territory.
There is no evidence that the showcase was downgraded from the in engine teaser? Miles has nothing to do with this as that game was more regarded as cross gen dlc. That's pretty revisionist.
I remember a lot of people already complaining about the lack of visual leap from Miles Morales when the 2021 reveal from Spider-Man 2 came out.
Also, let's put this into perspective: This is not a Watch Dogs downgrade. There really is no evidence of a downgrade at all.
That's not me making excuses, because if anything, I thought there would be a slight visual upgrade from what we saw in the 2021 trailer, and/or a big upgrade to gameplay. I'm more concerned about the latter at this stage.
I feel the opposite. The gameplay is what looked poor to me. Graphically there wasn't a huge jump, but it's not release-ready, and I never expected one thanks to diminishing returns (and stream quality). Those visuals wouldn't detract from the game at all for me.Where is the gameplay is king energy. Looked good to me. Not at least interested in spiderman, but it looked fun and to say the graphics is underwhelming is just strange.
Expectations, but people don't even know what they are. Some base it off tech demos, and you would think they would learn by now every single gen and every single year, NOT to do that. But here we are.Can someone clarify what the actual beef is? Is it that the graphics didn't live up to expectations? Or is it that people think it genuinely looks rough?
I was certainly not blown away but could tell it looks distinctly better than the last games. Wasnt expecting controversy tbf
Yes.There is no evidence that the showcase was downgraded from the in engine teaser?
What I'm saying is that the initial trailer did not blow anyone away visually, especially compared to Miles Morales.Miles has nothing to do with this as that game was more regarded as cross gen dlc.
I think the game looks good. Just not as good as HFW. Slightly disappointed though.

Well I'll have to disagree heavily since the game reveal had issues with ambient occlusion, character polygonal detail, lighting accuracy, soft shadowing, texture maps etc that just weren't there in the teaser. It legit looks like the PS4 game in most scenes. The teaser, while not as great as the Matrix demo, still looked a notch above last gen.Yes.
Indepedent of the black suit (clearly unfinished, and not seen in that first teaser), there's no real disparity that I can name between the what we got now and what we got in 2021 other than the time of day and hence different lighting conditions. The only point of comparison there is when Miles and Peter meet up indoors, and even the symbiote suit looks good there.
Enemy NPCs look on par, particle effects look on par, particularly for Miles' electricity, and environmental detail too.
What I'm saying is that the initial trailer did not blow anyone away visually, especially compared to Miles Morales.
they both have their strengths and weaknesses- Spiderman's combat and open world traversal is more exciting and dynamic but Batman's puzzle solving, stealth elements, metroidvania elements, story etc are all superior. I perfer Batman after having played Spiderman but both are good.Spiderman's gameplay is just downgraded Batman
What does this mean?Am I crazy does anyone else notice that official PS5 screenshots tend to look better than actual screens from the games proper?
They look sharper, and the shadows are softer and more varied across the image.
I suspect official screenshots released by PlayStation are touched up to some degree.
I think Batman's combat is way snappier and challenging than sm. It's enemy vareity is also more meaningful, but two can maybe close that gap.they both have their strengths and weaknesses- Spiderman's combat and open world traversal is more exciting and dynamic but Batman's puzzle solving, stealth elements, metroidvania elements, story etc are all superior. As in, the same exact in-game moments taken with the PS5's screenshot button. What does this mean?
Nah, it's no different than if you go into any screenshot thread on here and some people are able to capture those moments better than others. Is all.As in, the same exact in-game moments taken with the PS5's screenshot button.
The official press release screenshots always look better.
looks worse than infamous 2nd sonI'm still wondering if you guys even watched it in 4k.
what.......its because people like you take screens off of the youtube video not directly from the feed like they doAm I crazy does anyone else notice that official PS5 screenshots tend to look better than actual screens from the games proper?

enough with anti blur narrative. Blur is absolutely not a problem. If anything it makes it look better.Dunno man, when you can actually have a screenshot without the blur from the movement it all looks pretty good.
Water surface seems to have RT reflections which could justify the very low textures on far away objects since those RT effects are costly.
How do ppl see those screenshots, even in motion, and say it looks like the ps4 game? It does not. Whatever your expectations were, that statement is clearly untrue.Dunno man, when you can actually have a screenshot without the blur from the movement it all looks pretty good.

Maybe you're right and it's just photo modes, but their official screenshots always look noticeably better than anything I can produce, even with the built-in photo modes.Nah, it's no different than if you go into any screenshot thread in here and online, and some people are able to capture those moments better than others. Is all.
I think it doesn't look generation better than 2nd son. not at allNo it doesn't.
Get a rainy moment or go to a neon sign district and it will look far better. Complete with RT and not SSR.
I'm still wondering if you guys even watched it in 4k.
