I'm so excited for this new one.
I'm disappointed he's not doing The Devil In White City adaptation though. Since H H Holmes is my favorite Serial Killer and supposedly Leonardo Dicapro was gonna to play him. It's now a mini series with Scorsese producing. I'm hoping that turns out good

I sadly haven't seen The Irishman yet. All the stuff I have going on right now ... I had to cancel my movie tickets, too. I'm really ready to get back to movie watching but i can't. I'll see it later this year tho, I'm sure.
I hadn't heard about The Devil in White City... I'll look it up.

But yes, look how much humanity advanced thanks to a tiny, tiny subset of physicists, mathematicians, chemists, biologists, engineers, and computer scientists since the Enlightenment began. The world has been transformed by Newton, Einstein, Darwin, Maxwell, Turing, et al. And culture advanced from a small subset of authors, artists, philosophers, and other creatives.
Keeping them for centuries instead of a few decades would be a tremendous resource to humanity.

Don't bother they will find WOKE in anything that has whites as the villains. Saying this as someone who's Anti-Woke myself. But I find the "Woke" complaints weird and kind of funny since this film is coming from Scorsese who doesn't let his personal politics effect the film

I'd meant to post about this video the other day. Genuinely sad to see people talk about Scorsese films, particularly one like Wolf Of Wall Street, as "eat your vegetables" type films. It seems like the range of films that a lot of people are willing to watch is getting narrower and narrower.

I didnt like it as much. I think the FBI shows up way too late in the movie. Maybe if it was 2 hour long movie and the last half was the FBI investigation, it wouldve interesting.
I think focusing on DiCaprio and Deniro is probably the wrong choice here. It might have worked for Casino and Goodfellas because those guys were interesting but these guys are buffoons.
Movie is also very slow paced. It's like the first slow hour of Irishman, only unlike Irish, the last 2.5 hours are just as slow as the first hour.

He does it to himself, most people aren't interested to watch a 3,5 hour movie. Instead of blaming everybody else, its basially scorsese that's the issue here. the golden rule has always been 90-120 minutes movies is the sweet spot, go far over it and people will naturally ignore it more and more.
Scorsese on the movie lenght question:
That series i can bing watch at home, I get every 30 minutes a time warp back into the last episode on what happened to fill me in if i didn't pay enough attention, wife can watch a episode or two with you or whenever she pops in she's filled in easy etc etc. On top of that most of those series aren't connected towards eachother but self contained smaller story's.
Result is i can pauze, watch it whenever, rewind it and stop watching without missing much. And all that while i do work on the side, so its more a backdrop.
With a movie at a cinema that aint working, its a complete different market something he doesn't seem to understand.
Then about attention span, everybody's attentionspan is going down from young to old because a movie simple isn't what it was 20 years ago. We all have far more things in our life going on, and we need to be up do date about everything. So kids in general have a less attentionspan, while older people which probably have a bigger attentionspan, but have probably more things to do.
For example, if u are single and go to the cinema at 20, and u want to watch a 3,5 hour movie, I can probably do that far easier then if u are 35 years old, u have a kid, a wife and need to do 10 things at home. So the limited time u do have, u probably don't wan to drag another person ( wife with you ) that is maybe not interested in watching longer movies or movies at all. Which lowers the factor again.
And this is also why super hero movies that are longer then 2 hours are still visited or other movies that already proved themselves. Those movies are far more interested towards a younger audience, then a mid aged woman drama about some oil from hundreds of years ago only a select few care for most likely. And the older audience, well as i said aren't going to watch it either.
What he should have done, is make a 2 part movie. 90-120 minutes each. But i doubt even he even had faith in people paying twice for a movie like this. then the next best option, just make it a 90 to 120 minutes movie and cut stuff.
So about that video of that guy talking the way he talks, well that's just the reality of what most people think really. He watched 1 hour of said movie and kinda was done with it. And that's another problem, a 1 hour and 30 minutes movie u can still struggle through if its not that good, a 3,5 hour movie aint happening.
Hell i just watched big fat greek wedding 3 on the background, its a decent movie nothing special, but after 90 minutes i wanted it to end and it ended there, if the movie was 3,5 hours i would have not even started watching it, way to long. but if i did do it, it would be a really bad experience at the end.
This movie is made for the pure scorsese die hard fans, and nobody else.

I wonder if this movie is worth watching if you have no knowledge about the subject or even a real interest in it. Especially considering reactions I see that the movie is slow, has no tension and is overall kind of boring.
The Irishman was an absolute slog of a movie because without prior knowledge about Jimmy Hoffa and the very specific series of events in US history the whole movie falls on its ass. At least, it did for me.

I went last night and loved it. I read the book and thought Marty did a fantastic job translating. I had no issue with the length of the movie. My buddy went with me with no understanding and loved it as well. I expect a lot of nominations.

DeNiro was great and was a very big part of the movie. He had some lines that got big responses from the audience.
White people do that all on their own, my guy.
Watched this movie Saturday night. I just don't know how you can do this type of thing to someone you claim to love. Overall this film was amazing, It was over 3 hours long, and while I checked my watch from time to time, i never felt like it had been dragging.

I think the biggest issue with humanity as a collective is we'll want to keep the wrong people around. We'll keep the businessman and the politicians, but not the people that actually put in the work. We'd probably elevate someone like Musk, while denying someone like Einstein. Humans are easily swayed by words but not works.

Great movie, there are some scenes that feel a little stretched but, I didn't have any issue being engrossed for 3 1/2 hrs.. I had a couple moments after the film of having to remember I'm not in that reality anymore.
Hard to watch at certain points, I had no idea what this movie was, went in blind with friends that recommend it and I didn't know anything about the osage, quite a story..

Very good. Transports you into the period completely, slowly unravels the darkness within.
It’s tough for me to love character studies of deeply flawed people who are without many redeeming qualities.
But the events and the decisions made throughout make you think about human nature. The conclusions drawn are pretty grim in this case.

I thought this film was too long. An hour could have been cut out, the story dragged. (Maybe because I was unwell)

Leo doing the ‘lude face from wolf of Wall Street. The whole time
The actress playing his wife just looks depressed.
I think the director and editor over indulged on everything
How many times do we need to have a shot of the ranch on fire?!? I counted four separate times.
All the edits where the music suddenly stops, or music is left playing loud?
Yeah there is a great meaty story in there. But man..it drags
Gladiator , avatar , wolf of Wall Street. Seven samurai. Oppenheimer, magnolia, godfather one and two. Lord of the rings, Titanic All long movies but didn’t feel as long as this.
Oh and Brendan Fraser fans he is in this move towards the end for all of five minutes. I dunno maybe I will watch this again. But I just few there is too much fluff

This is one of the few duds of Scorsese career. Its not that its slow but its so banal.
At times its almost comedic because its absurdly blunt while De Niro plays his character a tad outlandish with some really funny expressions. And then there's a constant guitar riff.
This could have been a terrific scary mystery story.

thats basically what it was originally with Dicaprio cast to play the detectives. But they wanted to show the bad guys and well, that pretty much sealed the deal. these bad guys are not likeable or funny or charismatic like the goodfellas so the movie just kinda bores you to death.
