GOG News and Updates 2011

Blood single-player scared the shit out of me when I was young. Weird, because I'm pretty sure it's not really scary.

I mostly played multiplayer with friends. Like every weekdays, mostly one on one (LAN setting)) on two or three maps. Bodies, Twin Fortress and another one. Really great memories.

No it doesn't. RCT1 has a sandbox mode once you complete the individual campaigns though.

Blood, Blood 2, Outcast and Desperados for me on this sale, good deals.

Also, you can play it windowed w/ D3DWindower (that's what I was going to suggest later if you were still having trouble). Some people find the look of it fullscreen to be a bit too pixelated. Glad you got it working though! Don't be afraid to use a FAQ if need be, some puzzles are just awful :)
Sorry to bring that up again, but Longest Journey doesn't work anymore.
Can you tell me how to use that, please?

To add TLJ to D3DWindower, click the plus icon, then select the main exe (game.exe in this case) from TLJ directory.

Then select the shortcut in the main window so it's highlighted (you can rename it from the generic "game" to TLJ or whatever if you edit it in the .ini), and click the second to last icon, (tooltip "settings").

In the DLL field, browse to wherever D3DWindower is installed to and select D3dHook.dll

That's pretty much it (if you input a resolution of anything other than original 640x480, the framerate is halved).

I get some kind of error w/ the game from the vanilla install (even using D3DWindower), so like I mentioned in that old post you quoted, I had to use these files to fix the error I was getting (in addition to removing the files mentioned in the post). You probably don't even need D3DWindower if you have the same problem as me, swapping those files alone should do the trick. Otherwise, you might find something useful in the GOG forums.

Ok, thanks, I'll try that.

Edit:Where do I find D3DWindower in the first time?

So I'm playing Giants Citzen Kabuto.

I'm at the part
that is right after I fought and killed the Kabuto offspring
.

Now while this game is humorous and a bit unique (at least in presentation). Its a bit dull with unbalanced difficulty. Is there any reason to continue? How long is this game?

That's a pretty good sale. I'm thinking about buying all the Alone in the Dark games , Desperados, Outcast and Rollercoaster Tycoon 1+2. Do these games hold up well? Also is there any point in getting both of the RCT games?

Dunno about the others but RCT1+2 holds up extremely well. I got both personally for nostalgia sake though if u only want one its RCT2.

Also speaking of which I beat the 1st scenario forest frontiers in RCT1 again, damn im about to be addicted to RCT all over again and it also doesnt help that I picked up RCT3 for $7.50 off d2d gah.

Desperadoes definitely does, I double dipped even though I had a retail copy lying around some where, I also got AitD1+2+3;

Me too, it gave me nightmares actually; I used to play it on my dad PC at his office, I was like 8 or 9, I still remember how I felt back then, really horrible

people should also get MoM if they can afford reading its long ass manual.

Yeah, but look at that first review! Five stars! "Goodgame"

BTWTWTW, isn't another Broken Sword game in the works? A 2D one?

It looks like Charles Cecil said Revolution Software is working on a few new 2D games, but nothing specific. Broken Sword 5 is heavily rumored/expected to be among the new releases, but according to posts on revolution's forums, Revolution said on facebook (which I can't find) that the Pocket Gamer interview announcing BS5 which the wiki article is based on is not true.

Broken Sword 4: The Angel of Death today, the final chapter. For 2007, the graphics are pretty disappointing too (I'm assuming the game follows the previous behavior of every entry past the first being a step worse).
BS4 was nowhere near as good as BS1 and 2 from what I can recall - I don't think I ever even finished it. Hopefully if they do consider going back to the franchise it is more akin to the original

Playing with the other characters could be a reason.

Its pretty long, i guess you are at 1/3 more or less.

Broken Sword 1-2-3 50% off

I have that Mastertronic bundle with Broken Sword 1+2 but lacked some videos and used scummvm.

Are gog.com versions better? How is that Broken Sword 2: Remastered edition?

with gog you can play either the original or the remastered. I've only beaten the remastered and played a part of the original, but i thought it was ok. Some people are purists though.

I thought the move to 3d w/ BS3 was unfortunate, because it made the game much longer due to artificial reasons.

Do you know if the classic versions use ScummVM and/or include the missing videos from my version?

I am thinking of skipping 3 and buy only the 2Ds

Oh sweet, BS4 lives! I thought it was destined for obscurity forever because it doesn't work too well on "modern" computers (anything over a single core and it doesn't work), which I always thought was really silly for a game made in 2007. I assume this little issue has been fixed for the GOG release? They list support for 32/64 bit Windows 7, and I can't imagine anyone running a 64-bit Windows 7 install on a single core these days...

So, when does Freespace 2 start getting good guys? So far all I do is escort smaller or bigger fleets with or without lots of wingmen from point A to point B and oh so very unexpectedly get ambushed by waves of enemy fleets with smaller or bigger or giant ships which are damage sponges... It's not very fun... Tachyon at least lets me buy weapons and upgrades and choose from a few different missions, and go through gates to other sectors etc. It's purely mission based too but it feels more involved...

I guess it at least looks okay (with FSO)... Still, very disappointed so far since it was supposed to be an epic classic...

By the way, the Thrust left/right/up/down keys don't seem to function at all yet, do only later ships have strafing or am I doing something wrong?

The Slide key doesn't do anything either, I thought it would allow me to maintain velocity while aiming in any direction like in Tachyon but it doesn't.

Nice Broken Sword sale! I was waiting for that. Sucks that you didn't actually "own" the Broken Sword they gave away. I forgot to download it so I'll have to buy them all now.
what, it didn't get added to account?

You actually do, I still have the free Broken Sword from them on my account. You should contact their support and they'll add it back for you.

Mine is still there. I think others had problems with this. You need to tell GOG.

They didn't waste much time in getting the sequel out, heh. LBA & LBA2 are great additions to GOG.

Uninstalled Giants Citizen Kabuto. What a shit game.

It was an amazing game for the time though, spent many days playing it back at release. Didn't take itself too seriously and the in-game cutscenes were nicely done.

Better than the first - but both games are superb.
Unless the first 2-3 hours of LBP1 aren't representative of the game, I completely disagree. It's almost unplayable now. I can't get by the lousy, early-3D controls, the terrible animation and THE WORST SAVE SYSTEM I'VE EVER SEEN.

All of that stuff would be forgivable except the game actually has a huge focus on combat or avoiding enemies so you're fighting the controls the whole time. It's also very easy to get stuck in an infinite hit stun animation. And to top it all off, you take damage from running into walls.

Blood is kind of unnerving for sure, combination of music and the awesome sounds the game has..oh I want to replay it now! Never beat the expansions, one of them is bugged though as the second level in the expansion loads the second level from the first episode and I doubt that's intentional.

Edit:

So yeah, Blood. Purchased it a few months ago and didn't know a whole lot about it, just that it had a cult following and Monolith was behind the thing. Completely missed it back in the day. So, no nostalgia glasses here, and you know what? It's one of the absolute best shooters I've ever played. It's a straight up man's game, with one manly arsenal of weapons - probably the best of any FPS, actually.

I completely agree save the best FPS part (That goes to Unreal 1). Incredible game that I missed back in the day and it's so much better than your Doom's and your Duke Nukem's

$3 to have your balls rocked off is one hell of a deal.

Anyone buying Blood should check out the forums and get the mods, particularily one special version of DosBox, otherwise the music won't loop.
How is AITD: The New Nightmare? I remember enjoying the demo. As one who mostly enjoyed the Blair Witch trilogy using the same engine, will I enjoy this?

hehe. the early game has a focus on being careful and exploring. also pretty much completely avoiding combat, at least until you get the ball upgraded. there are hearts everywhere, so running into stuff really isn't a big deal. also remember the ball is thrown differently depending on which mode you are in. but it really isn't super useful until it's upgraded a bit. some enemies don't take damage btw, I can't remember if any of the ones in the beginning don't, if they bleed the stars they take damage and can be killed. it's almost never a good idea to fight without the ball.

I can't ever remember having too much of a problem with the save system in lba, although I do remember dying a lot. feeling my way through it. no real thoughts on it yet on the current gog playthrough, so ya-- I'm not ignoring that part of your post I just don't have anything to say on it. :) definitely don't have any problems with the fixed camera tank controls though.

Weekend Promo: Ubisoft action pack up to 60% discount.

This weekend we're offering a pack of Ubisoft action games. Until Monday, October 24 at 11:59 p.m. EDT, we're offering an up to 60% discount on 5 great titles from Ubisoft: the beautifully designed masterpiece Beyond Good & Evil, the quick moving, wall-running and time manipulating Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, and the crazy, colorful and demanding Rayman trilogy. The promo works in a way the more you buy the bigger discount you get, so we're starting at 40% off, and every promo game you add to the order increases your discount by 5%, up until you get 60% off on all 5 games. If you already own some games from the promo they will count towards your final discount! Time is running out, so don't think about it for too long.

Hi Joseph are you based in the GOG office?
I would like to know how i can get 3 windows of Blood 1 'networked' together on my one pc.

2 Legit 2 Quit YO!

LBA 2! Awwwwwright! Though LBA 2 being priced at $6 does indeed show that LBA1 was over-priced. Shall wait for both to be available on sale then go relive my early gaming years again.

Go run into a wall irl and see if you come away without pain.

I mean, I get how if you're used to more arcadey, full-throttle games it can be frustrating, but wall-damage serves a very serious point: to slow you the fuck down. If you're constantly experiencing wall damage, you're running too much and it's no wonder you're finding the game frustrating/always being sent back to a very early save checkpoint.

Slowly, slowly, slowly.

At least until towards the end when you
get the sword
and become an unstoppable killing machine.

As for Rayman

How was the PC port of 2? I played it on Dreamcast back in the day and loved it - is it better?

And how good was 3? As both a port and a game, seeing as I never played it.

Hope the fellows at the topic could give some impressions or advice with the Ubisoft pack.
1-Do they behave under Windows 7?
2-Are they 360 wireless pad friendly?
3-If 2- is a not, how do they control with KB/Mouse?

Don't like tier price set up GoG, why do you keep torturing me?

These are important questions to everybody. The pack seems ok for 15.15 but i most confess the 2 games that interest me there are Rayman 2 and 3.

Clean sweep for me today, bought all five.

Was only going to buy the Rayman trilogy but a coworker wanted Sands of Time and BG&E. GOG doesn't allow gifting /part/ of an order so there's no way for me to gift just those two for him and have him Paypal me the money, but since I have no interest in the two games (own both elsewhere) I'll just send him the DRM-free installers and on the honour system not use them myself. GOG makes this kind of thing super easy :)

The same thing can be accomplished by stunning your character WITHOUT damaging him. And hey, they wouldn't even have to do anything since the stun effect is already in!

Really, if you're so hot for screwing over a player for bumping into a wall while navigating with terribly animated tank controls, you should make sure that your camera/viewpoint gives you enough warning to avoid said wall. ..which LBA1 doesn't handle well at all.

Reading up on LBA2, it looks like the developers agreed. No wall damage!
