GOG News and Updates 2011

I'm interested in Rayman Forever, but this:

However, various sections of the soundtrack were erased in an effort to save space on the CD.

has me worried. Is the soundtrack still incomplete in the gog version?

Oh shit! GOG has been on a roll with their sales lately. I want all of those games.
I used to have rayman forever but I have no idea where it is. I haven't seen it in almost a decade.
How is the PC version av rayman 2? I had the PS2 version but I sold it a long time ago.
Never played rayman 3. Is it any good?

wtf? My cart is all messed up. I went to add the 3 raymans and then SC2K, but got an error. I try to start fresh by deleting the cart, but now I have no items in the cart, but it still reflects my total as ~$9. Tried deleting cookies and all that fun stuff, but it still does that.

I can't add anything to my cart now.

Edit: nevermind. Figured it out. Apparently gog doesn't like it when you try to add games to your cart when you have a promotional pricing going on. Had to click the remove button about 20 times, and I could finally clear my cart.

They realy should fix that.

I guess it at least looks okay (with FSO)... Still, very disappointed so far since it was supposed to be an epic classic...

That's the wrong Descent!, Go play These and This and not This or This!

*Snooty @ Interplay for putting Freespace in my Robot blasting 6DoF series huff*

"Note : the soundtrack of the PC version of Rayman is different from the console versions ; in the PC soundtrack there are no specific musics for different levels. When you play a level of the Dream Forest on the PC version for example, it'll play the complete Dream Forest file whatever level you are playing."

That's a killer for me, the different sub-tracks for the sections are completely different and playing the wrong one changes the atmosphere completely. Riding the mosquito just isn't the same without this playing.

...and the tings don't even "ting" in the PC version?

The consesus is that the original version of Broken Sword 1+2 is better than the remastered version, right?
I'd say so. The remastered versions also feel a little cheap on PC. They're obviously designed with touch controls in mind.

So I just noticed I won masters of orion 1+2 from that gog facebook giveaway last month if u clicked u were attending their conference. So anyone else win and not realize until recently? The msg was listed under other which doesnt give u any notification.

Bought Rayman 2 from the Ubi sale. I'm running it in 'high' resolution mode, chosen from the options, but it appears to that the aspect ratio is streched. The ini is locked out, are there any fixes I'm not aware of or is this the only way to play it?

You can set the resolution to whatever you want with GXSetup.exe. I have to run the game as Admin for it to take effect though.

Great, thanks. I tried fiddling with the ini file, but it didn't take. The game looks very good considering how old it is.

Really great to see LBA series on GOG.
The games are cheap and we can get an amazing extra content most of them never seen before.

Will be great to see the source code be release to public as well. Hope it will be the next step.

Having only played a bit on Wii before getting on PC, the switch in audio quality between the prologue and the main game, not to mention the visual changes from cutscenes to portraits, leaves me to think it'd be better to go with the original version first, then replay the remastered version later if you care. I also think the original got off to a stronger start, the prologue they added isn't exactly as immediately gripping as
a clown coming out of nowhere and blowing up a cafe.

http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/speed_busters

speed busters! hehe. never thought I would see this game again. cool. can't remember at all how it holds up. I liked it at the time.

and oh I missed arma gold. it's weird thinking back on that game. it's pretty terrible now, but it's really good how completely it was eclipsed by arma 2. I loved arma1 for a long time, at least in multiplayer, but the ai and single player campaign (and the initial release version of the helicopters) were all really really bad terrible and fucked elements of the game. should jump in again and see if anyone is still playing multiplayer in it. at release of course it was pretty much unplayable for anyone due to being unoptimised and kind of built for future hardware. at least it got bohemia back on track after ofp elite.

The Gabriel Knight games are more than worth it for adventure game fans, although you should have already played them by now.

When is GOG going to get the Quest for Glory games? Those were the best. Well the last one kind of sucked.

I'm still recommending Scratches which is very scary (haven't finished it because of that) and has some good puzzlin', but it's also on sale at Steam for a bit less. I might pick up Realms of the Haunting since someone recommended it strongly here.

I can recommend Realms of the Haunting too.

Also, some of the new shoe-horned puzzles are infuriating.

Here's the full list with the usual italic (exclusive) / bold (recommended) format:

Gabriel Knight: Sins Of The Fathers - $2.99
Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast Within - $2.99
Gabriel Knight 3: Blood Of The Sacred, Blood Of The Damned - $2.99
Ghost Master - $2.99
Litil Divil - $2.99
Phantasmagoria - $4.99
Phantasmagoria 2 - $2.99
Realms of the Haunting - $2.99
Sanitarium - $4.99
Scratches: Director's Cut - $4.99
Shadowgrounds - $4.99
Vampire The Masquerade - Redemption - $2.99

Even for $3, Gabriel Knight 3 is still a bit hard on the eyes for me, but why not.

I played Realms of the Haunting for the first time this year when GOG added it and without any nostalgia at all I found it to be one of the best games I'd played this year. It's awesome.

Sweet, I kept checking yesterday hoping they would have one after seeing the steam thread.

Edit: :lol I have everything but Scratches, Litil Divil, and Realms of Haunting.

Is Litil Divil any good? Looks sort of interesting.

Ah, nothing for me this sale either. Is okay as I just picked up Amnesia from the Steam sale. As always, would prefer the DRM-free GoG route (I'm sure they could at least count Penumbra as 'old' at this point, no?) but no big.

How is VTM Redemption?
So-so. It's a lot like NWN that the game was designed to allow online player-made modules or whatnot but my memories of the single player are that it's linear and pretty dull.

What resolution did you play at and were the maps all stuck in that small rectangle box? Is there a way to expand them? I'm over half-way and playing it off and on but I don't remember the maps being so frustrating when I played it years ago.

Yes! Scratches and Realm of The Haunting for me. I've been waiting for those. I already own everything else except Ghost Master, Shadowgrounds and Litl Divil.
Scratches is only 15 cent more on GOG and I'd rather support GOG and have it DRM free.

Never played the Gabriel Knight games before, so I'm leaning towards getting those. I may plonk down for Sanitarium too, if I've got enough cash.

Does anyone have an opinion on VTM: Redemption? I loved Bloodlines, and starting off as a vampire in the medieval era and then going to the present is a hugely appealing prospect to me, but I'm unsure if it's worth it. I've got a big backlog with some damn fine games on it, so at this point anything which isn't exceptional can wait for a later time.

Yeah, the game is worth that price (and the regular one).

I loved the VO and the setting. The gameplay is solid, a good Diablo clone.

The games are terrific. The first one is one of the point and click adventure games ever IMO. I think GK2 is the best FMV adventure. The last one, though maligned for it's weird 3D look and the infamous mustache puzzle, is still very much worth playing.

I haven't played them in years and will be buying them.

Thinking about getting Gabriel Knight 1-3 and V:tM-R. Good idea???
First two games are great but I didn't care for three. I did beat it but I could never really get into it because of the horrible interface. Oh and cat mustache.

I'm definitely getting both Phantasmagoria games. I seem to recall playing about half of the first one when it came out but I don't remember much about it.

I was thinking about the first one but I realized time had clouded my memories when I watched a LP of it. It has not aged well. Never played the second, though, so the less I know, the better!

Is it the FMV that turns you off?

It's too bad all the games that I would want I already have! (I thought about the first Phantasmagoria... and although I enjoyed it when I played it fifteen years ago or however long it was, I don't think I would enjoy it much now.)

But everyone who does not have at least the first Gabriel Knight and Sanitarium should go for them! Awesome games.

Watch Spoony's LP of Phantasmagoria 2. That's all you need of that game. You will not be disappointed.

No, it's pretty much everything. Bad acting, bad puzzles, bad story, bad music, bad graphics, screen-eating UI. I don't have a problem with GK2, love the Tex Murphy games, and would like Rama to be GOG'd, for reference.
