At this point is hard to comprehend what Dice is doing with battlefield.
The game has so many problems, from gameplay to technical issues. But they are focusing on creating characters with some sort of personality, on a multiplayer game.
And the worst part is that there are 5 of these characters, so every one on both teams are running identical models. Making it impossible to distinguish friend from foe, unless you look at the color of the dot on top of character.
Ubisoft did something similar with Rainbow Six Siege, but they had specialist unique to each side.
And each side could only pick one of each character.
This not only made each side unique, but also made each team to consider how synergies would apply.
But BF 2042, would need at least 64 unique specialists for each side. But that is obviously too much.
It would mean a lot of work to make so many unique specialists.
So they make each specialist available to all. Resulting in a cluster***k of identical soldiers in each side.
Ubisoft was able to make the specialist system work in RSS, and with it, sell micro-transactions.
EA and Dice wanted to copy the idea, but without the understanding of what makes it work in RSS.
