I really like the concept for this game. Continuing right from where KZ3 left off would have been stupid and no one really wanted to play as Sev or Rico any more. Jumping 30 years ahead and having both factions on different parts of Vekta will allow for it to be the beginning of a new conflict with new characters and lots of new weapons and tech. A really great idea for a pseudo reboot that'll get them out of the corner they wrote themselves into.

It's also great to see the return of alt fire.

As long as there is an audience for this kind of game great put it out, make millions. But i think its important also to realize that for some, this kind of thing is completely unimpressive. To me it still looks horribly fake in the same exact ways these games always do. They have learned nothing. The lighting is a bit creamier and there seems to be more going on at once but what is going on is just as lifeless as ever. I dont see where the "game" is in this. Id be bored out of my mind playing something like this. Its like a scripted tour where you can sort of choose who to shoot and where to duck but there is no "game". Like i said, if many are excited for this then im glad. But this isnt even gaming to me and i dont know how you guys can sit through something like this. Hollywood movies blow this away. I dont see how its igniting imaginations any further than movies already have, and as a "game" its weaker than even old 8 bit games. Those who are enthusiastic are justified, but dont be so quick to mock those who are unimpressed. It really does look like the same old fps with a slightly shinier coat of paint.

Thank god they make games for more than just adult males.
Perhaps you've tried Killzone 3 and got a bad taste in your mouth?

I absolutely understand and agree with your point of view that shooters do tend to get this way, but not all of them. KZ1 and KZ2 are great "games" that offer a degree of freedom on how to tackle a situation and in general are more open for experimentation, but KZ3 did start to go a bit into overly scripted shooter style.

Anyways don't know much about this game right now so it's not really fair to already classify it a "Press X to Awesome" game.

The "last gen gameplay" comments are utterly baffling. The industry, almost universally, chose presentation over gameplay last generation. It makes perfect sense that scale and presentation is evolving yet actual gameplay will remain roughly the same.

I was really skeptical with where this series would head after that terrible ending, but the premise of Shadow Fall actually makes sense (no retcon needed) and is really intriguing.

What was the resolution for the games shown??? Did we get any idea if they were running 1080 or lower or higher?

It's like...the best damn looking looking game I've ever seen!
The cityscape looks gorgeous, Guerrilla has phenomenal art direction.

The series has gone from being pure shit to decent SP and fun MP, so I fully welcome this game with the expectation that it continues to improve.
 
Demo was boring, but this is Killzone. I know it'll play well and the MP will be great. It looked absolutely stunning though. Are there still people denying that Guerilla's artists are some of the best in the business?

It was roughly 12am in the UK when they showed this last night. I was tried and hungry and was starting to get bored...

My jaw literally hung for about 5 mins when this presentation started.
It really did remind me of the first time that they showed off KZ2 and I was completely amazed at what I was seeing....

For me the effect wore off very quickly though and now I'm worried that I'm getting old and flashy graphics alone just don't cut it for me anymore.

The gameplay just looked boring to play. I don't know what I was really expecting but it looked like I was watching a very poorly scripted and shot movie... The whole thing was very strange and I quickly lost interest.

One of the things that stood out to me was how static the whole environment looked.
Maybe I need to watch the footage again but when I saw the KZ2 footage for the first time, two things really stood out to me:

One was the destruction in the environment. I know it was just aesthetic, but rubble was flung everywhere following explosions, walls were chipping under fire. It just made the whole thing feel 'alive'.

The second thing was the over the top death animations. The way the enemies would violently flail around while you pumped them full of bullets.

Both these things seem to have been absent from this PS4 footage and it really made the whole thing seem soulless to me. Maybe I need to re-watch it and see if I missed anything.

In all seriousness no one except devs and Sony know what resolution that was running at. Even "HD" streams were far too low res to tell the difference between 720 and 1080.

Well I can't confirm it but sure looks like a railgun. A railgun that transforms into an assault rifle or a sniper rifle on demand =D

Post-processing AA exhibits certain very distinct artifacts. Even on a relatively low quality 720p stream these are noticable, along with the kind of alpha jaggies you'd expect from material that isn't downscaled or supersampled, but rendered at or slightly above native resolution.
 
Killzone Shadow Fall will be 30 FPS at 1080p resolution according to an interview after the presentation. German gaming site 4players.de reports:

Im Rahmen einer kleinen Entwicklerrunde nach der Pressekonferenz kamen Herman Hulst von Guerilla Games auf das Thema Bildrate zu sprechen. Werden 60 FPS bei einer FullHD-Auflösung auf der PS4 der neue Standard?

Nein, nicht unbedingt, denn den Entwicklern ist es immer noch frei gestellt, wie sie die verfügbaren Ressourcen nutzen wollen. Im Falle von Killzone: Shadow Fall haben sich die Niederländer z.B. auf 30 Bilder pro Sekunde bei einer Auflösung von 1080p eingeschossen.

Auch 3D wurde thematisiert, zählte Killzone 3 doch zu einer der aufwändigsten Produktionen, bei der die räumlichen Effekte sehr gut zur Geltung kamen. "Wir mögen immer noch 3D", so Hulst, der sich aber zu keiner konkreten Bestätigung für eine 3D-Unterstützung hinreißen lassen wollte.

Summary:

- Developers can choose which resources they want to use
- GG chose to have 30FPS at 1080p
- They still like 3D, wont confirm if Killzone Shadow Fall will support it

This is a year away, not to mention the gameplay that was shown was probably from a build at least a month old if not way more (that's how these things usually go).

1080/30 is good.
But 1080/60 is great.

I hope it's just the stream thats been capped to 30fps.

What did you use to get the reso? everyone ive talked to have said so far that the stream is far to compressed to get any indication of resolution.
 
30fps ugh. Another gen where they gonna put graphics on the first place. So again with the high latency input delay controls. Yea I think ill pass.
At least it looks good, amiright people?
