I will be really pissed off if they already drop support for the OG iPad. The thing is damn expensive, I would expect support for longer.

Love the image 9to5mac used "Scumbag Tim". Pretty hyped for the show tomorrow, anyone doing a bingo or something for this?

Ahh, man. I better go tell my Sister in Law to stop using hers. She loves that thing, so I'll probably have to slap it out of her hands.

Easy for you to say, when you don't have to use it every day. I can't even browse threads with pictures without fearing to crash the browser.

And people laughed it off when they were told 256mb ram was going to be a problem. One of the worst cases of planned obsolescence I've seen recently.

Some of Nokia's recently released Windows Phone 7 models don't have the RAM requirements to run Angry Birds or Skype, and apparently none of the Windows Phone 7 models on the market right now will be getting Windows Phone 8.

Expect no optical drive, no ethernet, and a thinner design.

Expect not to know for certain until tomorrow. Apple doesn't always do what people think they will.

2 years/2 software updates has been the standard for iOS devices. Sell that thing for $250 and get a refurb iPad 2 for $320 from Apple.

It's not like it stops working if you don't get a new OS. Someone bought an iPad 1 in 2010 for new features introduced in 2012?

I'm not really sure if the latter was planned obsolescence or just plain stupidity from the divisions of windows working on WP7 and W8. Skype on WP7 as a whole is a clusterfuck anyway, made worse by the low end phone you mentioned that will appeal to Asians that very likely use Skype

Why did this even need to be brought up here :p

iPad 1 could still get iOS 6, it just may not be optimized for it just yet. Developer builds at this early stage of the game could easily still be getting tuned for the older hardware.

After the new Macbooks are announced, what's the quickest and easiest way to get one?

Is there typically a huge rush on them like new versions of the iPhone, or is it typically easier to find one of these since they're pricier items?

Apple's own online store is usually the quickest way, though they usually aren't exactly hard to come by either way.

She does use it every day, and I've never heard a complaint from her. I was over there today and she was using it to shop for prints.

Obviously her browsing needs are different/lighter than yours and mine, but it is proving usable for her, and I'd imagine plenty of other people.

Do it. I've got 16GB in my Mid-2010, and I installed a SSD a month ago. It's life changing.
Yeah I may just do that. I sold my brothers iMac on Craigslist this past week and it was a real hassle. I was going to sell mine as well eventually down the road but I may just do as you suggest and upgrade it instead of replacing it with a new model.

Just wary about the SSD install which seems like a hassle. Will have to read up more on it.

I can't prove it, but I suspect iPad 1 users are okay with their hardware as long as they've never used an iPhone 4S or a newer iPad.

...hate me...

I currently own a new iPad but one of the reasons I upgraded was because the iPad 1 was giving me hell for a long time. Had (and still have) an iPhone 4, which was a dream in comparison.

I can't stand using safari on my iPhone 4 now that I had the new iPad. I always thought pages rendered slowly because of the 3G. I rendered the same site on my iPhone 4 and iPad on wifi. The difference was pretty pronounced.

It's actually pretty easy. I'm not even that technical and I managed it with no sweat. The hardest part was taking out the logic board - none of the guides I followed mentioned that there's a plastic sensor unit (think it's the IR sensor) just above/behind the Apple logo on the front of the iMac. You have to take out the little black plastic piece or the logic board won't budge.

I followed this guide here (with a Corsair Force GT drive), but PM me if you have any questions now or later: http://ssd.youds.com/

What would be cheaper. Apple education discount (through my little sis) but with sales tax or MacMall or Amazon with lower price and no sales tax?

If no one knows I will be able to figure it out soon enough.

Maybe you should ask her then? Not that I expect any other response from you, other than "she's super happy with it".

When I asked my sister-in-law if she was happy with her iPad, she said she was. Then I asked her about app crashes and she was like "ohhh, yeah. That happens. Quite annoying, but I thought it was normal".

There you have it. People are happy and not complaining about their OG iPad!

I have $3000 CDN saved up for this. I am switching from PC to Macbook Air (or Pro if it's light) + Thunderbolt Display. I hope prices stay the same.
