Graphical Fidelity I Expect This Gen

The thing with light systems is that even movie directors think that realism is not always the best way to lit a scene, so yeah you can simulate light acting like reality (or a close approximation) with path-tracing and ray tracing and nascar racing but sometimes unrealistic lights just look better.

Maybe the dude that edited the pics thought that this looked better and more flashy than a more natural look.
That's the thing is real life lighting is barely useable for a movie unless you're shooting in specific times of day in specific locations - otherwise you are going to be using a lot of different lights placed in a scene to get a good looking shot.

I also think that the game looks downgraded but this is just the difference between different tod/weather. It can apply to any other open world game with dynamic tod/weather system.

The best example is FH6, you have soo much variation in tod/ weather and on top of that you have the seasons which changes everything in the world.
Here is a good example how much lighting can change the look of the world in different tod/weather.

This is a bullshit comparison. The lighting, weather and scenes don't even match. And those's Forza shots are extremely poorly taken.

Probably dynamic bird shit knowing rockstar...

Cant wait to see slimy get mad for the huge amount of "useless" details this game is gonna have 🥲
lol id rather get next gen skin shaders than dynamic bird poop shaders. you just know the skin shading was downgraded because the gpu budget went into rendering some retarded poop physics no one will ever notice.

C CGNoire you are correct as well. In addition to SSS that I pointed out, there is slight DoF blur on their skin too. Their skin is actually not in perfect focus. Something in the foreground is always much sharper and in the sweet spot.

This might actually be my favorite shot in all of the material. I don't even care that it's a bullshot. Getting all this rendered in a game engine warms my heart. The translucency/inner reflections and refractions in the glass that actually seem to take real info from the background. The DoF bokeh shapes for each individual light in the background, with a dense cityscape. BELIEVABLE lighting on Lucia that is inline with her surrounding. So much variation in light response between the left and right side of her dress. The hair density, shadowing and specular highlights. *chef's kiss*

The only thing not looking perfect are the olives. Probably not in the BVH to get that extra GI bounce.

This game will absolutely sing with a next gen PT patch/PC release, but if this is photo mode on base PS5, it's still an incredible achievement.

No trailer is tempting me to go through these pics more closely :messenger_loudly_crying:

I'm still afraid that they won't implement PT on the PC port.
I'm really hoping Nvidia is pestering Rockstar to do it but DLSS implementation in RDR2 was so shoddy that I can't help but expect the worst.

Without it, a next gen patch will be pointless. There's quite literally nothing left to upgrade, lighting wise at least, other than PT. Both AMD and Nvidia should be knocking their doors 24/7. Lol

Indeed.

Excluding maybe the dress and the way nails connect to the flesh (and dithered RT), every element below looks like real life or advanced offline rendering to me.

Good catch on the nails floating ever so slightly. Missed that. Definitely the kinda thing PT will fix.

The dithering/noise is likely a product of base console upscaling. Hard to say for sure, but PSSR might fix all that

Yeah this is definitley my favorite shot as well. Feel exactly the same about those awesome refractions through the glass. Its a great cinematic shot.

I used to create wine glass shots just like that on 3ds max 4 back in the day. Cant say even with the long ass render times mine ever looked this good.

Come on. Rockstar stop cock teasing us and drop the goddamm gameplay trailer already you cowards.

I thought GTA 6 trailer would be today?
It's just hopium.

They could drop or announce a trailer at any time really, there's still trailer 3, media previews and 2 gameplay trailers left if they keep it similar to V and RDR2 so it's likely that we'll be getting something new every month until release but we can't know exact dates for sure.

Oh ffs, it was just peoples on hopium? 🤦‍♂️

You got Capcom instead. Thoughts on new and improved DD2?

Somewhere in my many youtube tabs that I'll go through in the next hours

Yes, 29 minutes long.

So I just watched

I don't know if you recall that DD2 was disappointing to me in the end?

I would say the DLC looks like good material. Snow area is not making any favors to the graphics though but graphics are the least thing I worry in dragon dogma. The QOL features are very good.

I didn't see the long list of patch changes, but will there be more enemy diversity in the field of the OG game too?
What made me drop the game was the story ultimately. I'm not sure there's any plans to change that for the OG even with Dark arisen DLC.

If DLC is a must play and redeems the story, I might jump back in. But I've felt that DD2 fell so short of the original.

What they did improved?

Challenge? Enemy variety and reactivity?

They have a truckload to things to fix in the og game, are the changes just for the dlc?
I do recall and I hope the DLC is good enough to bring people like yourself back in.

Enemy diversity...a little. They have some new dungeons and dragons (no pun intended). I'm not sure if they will put any DLC enemies in the main game.

The new director said they plan on continued content updates and patches, which means that this probably won't be the only expansion. To be fair the game did sell millions so I'm hoping they keep at it.

The biggest thing about it to me were the QoL stuff and them addressing complaints, plus a small roadmap. The gameplay looked buttery smooth on that direct, so I'm hoping they did a ton of optimization and engine improvements.

Here's the patch notes:

In bold, that's the most encouraging bit I would say, it felt like they had abandoned it for a while to be honest with the lackluster support post launch. I think for sure eventually after a lot of added content I'll inevitably revisit. For now I'll wait for the DLC reviews and cross my fingers something special is coming.

I mean I did get to like 95% of the game so it's not like I never liked my time with it, but when I got to the whole the ending will unfold by doing a quest that felt was... side content almost in quality, I kind of stopped playing and never got my Dragon Dogma 1 hitch really scratched I guess. Story was its weakest point.

I have to say I'm very impressed by GTA5s ray tracing. Sure the reflections on cards and windows are great, but the game rtgi does a great job grounding every corner, every wall and even certain foliage. Yes the game's assets are still from the ps3 era so it feels dated in some ways, but they have so many different settings for ray tracing that do stuff like multi bounce lighting, higher res reflections and shadows and more detail in the bvh.

I wish the traffic density and npc counts were higher and the draw distance was better, but I'm pretty sure they just ported over the gta6 ray tracing to gta5. Its that good. I think i might do a full playthrough.

Just makes me angry to see ghosts and ds2 skip multi bounce rtgi and ao. They have better assets than gta5 and would've looked so much better.

GTA 6 Pro details are apparently displayed on Amazon Brazil website, it says:

"Enjoy improved performance, more stable frame rates (FPS) and even sharper resolutions on the most powerful console on the market."

If we assume that that's real, then we shouldn't expect any additional RT features for Pro. I knew Rockstar are very strict when it comes to preserving visual identity, even in visual quality settings (unless a next-gen or PC version that warrant more visual fidelity), or maybe they're CPU bottlenecked so they couldn't add more RT for Pro…who knows?

What's also weird is it didn't mention nor indicate any possible "performance mode" wording for both Base & Pro. Makes me happy, there's a silver lining to everything in life. 😭

Sorry for the double post but there's even more detail here. I got it from a post on Twitter compiled it all:

▫️Switch between Jason & Lucia in the open world and complete missions as a duo.
▫️NPCs with their own daily routines.
▫️Dynamic random events across the world.
▫️Interactive establishments for deeper immersion.

▫️In-game social media featuring viral videos, influencers, and world events on your phone.
▫️AI-powered living world with organic random encounters.
▫️Discover secret side missions through social media.
▫️Your phone streams viral videos in real time.
▫️Unique abilities for each protagonist that impact gameplay and missions.
▫️Dynamic weather, storms, and time-of-day changes that affect physics and gameplay.
▫️Rockstar's biggest, densest, and most ambitious map ever.
▫️PS5 Pro features enhanced performance, more stable FPS, and sharper image quality.

This is the most impressive photo in my opinion, the way the light is bouncing across the whole scene specifically her legs almost makes it look like a cg render. I am so looking forward to seeing the fidelity ps5 pro mode

How many chances the game look like this?

It has those AI errors since there's no guiding principles that can help it get to a certain level of scene stability & conviction, or the stability & permanence of video games that we play. It is completely generating pixels on the fly!

But it has a very close resemblance to the trailer 2 beginning scene. I will say Neural Rendering will be a big part of video-game rendering pretty soon, it just needs gaming industry-wide adoption & application and that takes a lot of time. But I think Sony's PS6 "Future of Gaming" showcase/reveal might show a game built with that in mind…

If the game really does only benefit of a bit better resolution and anti-aliasing on the Pro and doesn't have a 40 or 60fps mode so many people on GAF are going to have a meltdown.
Prepare yourselves for one of the biggest shitshows in recent times in here :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I dont understand why Rockstar hasn't released yet a fucking trailer man
*slaps him in the face*
calm down man !

but really I think they don't want to give much more of the story away so the third trailer has to be a gameplay deep dive and that'll be all before the release
and everything has gone smoothly for them so far, so they don't want to introduce anything that might hinder the pre-orders
they wouldn't have released so many screenshots if they'd wanted to release a trailer as well

but I am still waiting for and looking forward to it

More stable framerate sound more like locked 30 fps than a 60 fps mode...maybe there is still hope...

I think they would fucking announce a 60 fps mode during marketing to boost sells right?

Why would you keep your 60 frames mode a mistery when you just started preorders?

This shit smell sus...

Maybe a locked 40 fps instead of a fluctuating 60 ?
Which would mean they could not manage to work out a stable 60 fps on base consoles for the game which sounds very good for us graphic whores

Them even trying a 60 fps mode is bad news...

But sure, everything is possible.

That doesn't sound like 60 fps is in. 40 fps maybe
That's my take 2 (pun intended).
At best the consoles will get a 40 FPS VRR mode.
Going by "more stable framerate", that would mean the base PS5 drops below 30 FPS more often than not.
Wouldn't even be surprised when you think about how much ai tech they are pushing in this game.
Also remember GTA V on PS3? FPS was bad and the game had quite some downgrades.

The 40/60fps mode as far as we know is cope from the fans anyway, it's not like Rockstar has a history of having that in their games. Apart from V on PS5 but that's a PS3 game...
All I'm saying is it's better to not expect those modes to exist and be pleasantly surprised than expecting the game to have them and then be utterly disappointed when it turns out it's a 30fps experience with dips just like every other Rockstar game.
