The funny thing is that a lot of the people dunking on Druckmann are the same people who moan about 'Hollyweird' and the mainstream media who run these award shows. I would've thought it would be like a badge of honor that Druckmann wasn't fitting in with the crowd.

As a side tangent - they hate Hollywood and award shows, but if their favorite film was to win 10 Oscars, suddenly it's relevant again. Kind of reminds me of people who shit on places like Harvard university, but then will quote "Harvard professor" whenever they need to add some weight to an argument. Credentialism is alive and well.

I used to be invited to some Hollywood red carpet premieres even though I didn’t create any shows. Can guarantee that a lot fewer people knew about me than Druckmann. But it’s still fun to do events outside of your normal circles. He worked on the TLOU HBO series, which swept the Golden Globes, so obviously he deserved to be there.

Druckmann isn’t attention whoring and trying to desperately ingratiate himself, as far as I’ve seen. He put in the work and is being recognized for it.

Dude look at what you just said, “yeah he’s a name in niche gaming circles but nobody outside knows who this guy is” and then the viral video is him standing there lookin like a chump while nobody takes a single picture. He even cringes himself and repositions so a crowd of nobody can get a better picture. It’s an embarrassing clip. You can still like him and his work but that 20 second slice was bad. It’s not that complicated to me.

haters be hatin, it's actually kind of embarrassing on the hater part. What's even the joke? Man is not in TWSIFT circles that commands a big hollywood crowd? TLOU HBO, while I personally think the type of praise its getting is undeserved, is still sweeping all the awards and prob better than competition

I’m pretty sure without his direction to tighten up the graphics in level 3, we’d be in a different state in gaming.

I mean, The Last of Us Part II has a travesty of storytelling. And this is not just an opinion; it's a fact. (dont @ me 😋 )

All this circus around Neil and the game is just ideological warfare.

I just hope he realizes where he messed up... but I have a sneaky suspicion he is going to double down.

He didn't invent any of this. The greatest Uncharted game is widely believed to be Uncharted 2 and this was when the formula was arguably perfected. TLOU was a joint effort between him and Staley (but mostly Straley). All Druckmann needed to do was the same thing they had already established. Despite this, he managed to alienate a large portion of his fanbase and made TLOU2 into one of the most reviled games in recent history. The fan reception is one of the most divisive we can think of, especially compared to the original.

So, no. Druckmann doesn't deserve any credit for inheriting an all-star team and not even making better games than what they had done in the past. He could have not touched any of those games and we could have had a different director at the helm, and ND would have still produced GOTY material anyway. This isn't thanks to Druckmann at all.

So that’s because you’re not reading in good faith because you’re just incredulous to something you disagree with.

Let me break it down for you Topher, IN the clip that went viral, he is not being photographed and he looks ridiculous and it’s cringey. Fact. Was he photographed at the event OUTSIDE of this viral clip? Yes. Fact.

Ergo people laughing at this tweet are right. And people defending, like yourself, are also right. Simultaneously. It’s really not nuclear physics here Topher.
