It's now being reported by The Verge so the leaks are legit.

They have a lot of stuff developed to deploy x86 binaries on ARM. Apple's Rosetta 2 is very performant aswell, so it can certainly be done.

No matter how good it is, there is always going to be a performance loss, and that’s bad for gaming especially when you consider that the hardware is already relatively weak.

Their ARM efforts are very poor so far, especially compared to Apple… now, if Apple said this I’d be more excited, but hopefully they stick to AMD.

Dedicated ML silicon looks good and obviously better ray tracing will be great. I wonder what "Extensibility model for faster iteration and innovation" means?

Where did you get this from exactly?

Goes without saying but literally anybody could conjure up slides like this with PowerPoint alone.

No more credible than those photos of livestream details taken at potato resolution from a weird angle. No spelling mistakes doesn't automatically give it credibility (but helps of course :D)

Purple forum. It should go up on gaming news outlets any minute now.

Edit: Already up on vgzcharts: https://www.vgchartz.com/article/458499/next-generation-xbox-early-details-have-leaked/

No way they'll go ARM, losing backwards compatibility in the process.
Translation layer should resolve that with minor over-head. ARM isn't an insane proposition given Microsoft's prior works.

I'm not seeing the source for this information, though?

There's no way they will release a revised XSX in 2024 and then have no new hardware for 4 years until the start of next-gen. That is simply too large a gap.

I would bet on a "Pro" console between Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 to hold over until the true successor in 2028.

Microsoft sees it. It’s why they’re pushing so hard towards gamepass. Sony buckled afterwards and Nintendo has been on the verge of slowly changing too. PC gamers don’t even care anymore since Steam is everything to them.

I don’t think we’re ready for the full cloud experience(like Stadia) but a future without discs is quickly approaching.

Without discs and having games not work without internet are two very different things.

I can see an argument for the former getting closer, but not the latter.

AAA games are already releasing that have no physical version available. Look at Alan Wake 2. I expect most new titles to forgo physical options altogether within the next 5 years.

Chances are Alan Wake 2 won't sell very well just like the first game. So it may not be a perfect test for the industry to see if they can get away with no retail versions in bigger releases.

In my opinion the publishers will try to make the physical editions more 'limited' (like only xxxxx copies worldwide). They will be able to charge more money for them, keep the illusion of being the good guys and keep pushing for digital-only future.

I recently played the first game and really enjoyed it but yeah I have no need to play Alan Wake 2 right away. I'll just wait for a sale. The first game was good but suffered from lots of issues

Microsoft engineers were able to get PowerPC architecture (Xbox 360) games to run at improved frame-rates and native resolutions on x86 architecture (Xbox One - current).

If anyone can switch to ARM and continue the backwards compatibility it would be them.
Those games are recompiled to run at x86.

Can someone explain in cavemen terms what ARM is and is it cool or uncool?
It different kind of brain or think space for computer box. Apple computer box recently now Arm brain, no more intel. It very successful.

Computer box need stories to be written in different words for Arm brain to understand quickly but it still understand stories written for other brains with help but it take longer which mean slower flashing on light box.
