Sony signs agreement with MS to keep COD on PS

Nope. It appears that Microsoft is the one who wanted this deal.... as they've given Sony a 10-year deal.

Sony can go on about their day without the COD deal and still do very well. Microsoft couldn't resist missing out on the billions from Sony.
They didn't need Sony to sign this deal to publish CoD on Playstation. It was nothing more than a good faith agreement.

It wasn't just about COD or Activision. It's about what could potentially happen in the future. This deal essentially opens the door to future monopolies and more games going exclusive. The judge made it clear that she thinks it's good for gaming... when it truly isn't. The judge was clearly biased and only saw the deal through Microsoft because they can't compete through hard work.
Oh ok thanks for clearing that up for me :pie_roffles:

The judge was biased as well as how many other regulatory bodies that approved the deal despite monopoly concerns?

How can the whole world keep getting away with it?

What else would you have him do?

They are releasing consistent GOTY contender single player games

Most of which are sequels and up to this point have mostly been cross-gen efforts. Might also drop in number as time goes on, per year.

They’ve got a PC initiative up and running and bought the best PC port house in the business.

That is partially undermining their console efforts particularly with marquee games potentially coming 1-2 years after console release at cheaper price, more options, higher resolutions and framerates, KB&M support, and free online.

Let's not forget, potential marketing bullet points to push the PS5 versions turning out to be false, too (like with Rift Apart)

Their network revenue is phenomenal.

Not necessarily sure how that benefits gamers

They’ve bought more studios.

The main ones of note being Insomniac, Housemarque, Bluepoint, and Bungie. All of which besides Bungie being pre-ABK acquisition. Their gaming studio purchases post-2022 outside of Bungie have been small mobile-centric teams or studios with no known IP.

They’ve doubled the size of most studios

We're still waiting to see what most any of them are up to that isn't a GaaS/live-service MP-heavy title

They’ve invested in deals for 3rd party games

Most of which are either "just" marketing deals, or timed 3P exclusivity deals with indie AA or Square-Enix Final Fantasy titles. Feels like a noticeable step back from the PS4 generation in that respect.

They’ve decided to add extra R&D spend to develop in areas they don’t traditionally move in.

Potentially at the detriment of areas they are traditionally involved in.

They bought one of the most successful GAAS companies out there.

Whose next game will still be multiplatform Day 1 and, depending on what autonomy Bungie have, could even end up Day 1 in Game Pass (at this rate, feels like).

He’s been making all the right moves. There wasn’t much he could do about ABK.

No he hasn't, IMO. He could have been taking the effort spent on blocking this deal, to instead attempt a couple of 3P publisher acquisitions of their own to lock down those partnerships, make investments in other 3P partners and buy shares in a few big AAA and AA 3P publishers over the span of these past 18 months. It seems like potentially nothing in terms of key 3P investments or share purchases has happened, let alone publisher acquisitions.

His next step will be the most interesting.

There’ll be a response.

I certainly hope so. We'll be able to read the room for certain within the span of the next few weeks/months for sure.

They’ve also got something big brewing with cloud. That Netflix thing hasn’t reared it’s head yet.

Personally is of little interest to me, but turning to Amazon & Netflix for cloud expansion strategy vs. Microsoft was one of the few notable good moves Sony've made in this ABK circus.

Still can't play ninja gaiden black on anything but xbox. That's like 20 years old. Xbox is the least eligible to cry about third party deals.

Saints Row 1, as well.

Ask Koei Tecmo to port it to whatever console you have. This has nothing to do with Xbox, and KT made Sigma for a reason. And it was multiplat.

What’s to say there was any better offer in the table? I’m willing to bet there wasn’t

You genuinely don't think Sony had better bargaining chips at the end of March after the CMA block (plus the FTC suing to block in December prior), than they do today with whatever they signed with Microsoft?

Again, they wouldn't have gotten a 10-year deal back in March, because they wouldn't be making a deal with Microsoft. It'd of been with ABK. And Sony could have locked Game Pass Day 1 possibility out of the picture with a renegotiated deal compared to what they have ended up with in effect now.

So its the same way ff vii remake was exclusive for one year and it was sqaure enix decision to not port it over. So all the fake concerns about sqaure enix about exclusivity is actually bullshit. Do you agree?

Kt did sigma but that makes itstill defacto exclusive. Black is the only version worth a playthrough.

To all Playstation fans worried about the future, your biggest enemy is Jim Ryan, not MS. Even if MS buys the whole industry, Nintendo is here to prove that you can keep your hardware alive with first party games. The biggest problem is the direction that Jim Ryan is taking Playstation. Instead of focusing in great single player games, he is focusing in shitty GaaS games.

Not saying MS is the good guy, just saying that the enemy is within the company.

CoD is too much of an established franchise to be replaced. So people who think that Sony can just make an alternative are misguided.
I do think that Sony's bet on GaaS is an attempt to mitigate eventual revenue drop once the inevitable happens and Microsoft tries to pull the rug from under their feet.

Wow, you were serious about that :messenger_tears_of_joy:

DoA and Ninja Gaiden being Xbox exclusive 20 years ago is only the result of Itagaki taking these decisions. The series started releasing on PS when he left.

If you like Ninja Gaiden Black that much buy an Xbox.

Jim Ryan sucks big time compared to shawn Layden and Jacky before him

Or they had to do it otherwise Microsoft would face perjury charges.
MS publishing the game, and signing a 10 year deal with Sony is not mutually exclusive. The judge also found that Phil's promise under oath could not be enforced as Phil cannot speak for the entirety of the MS corporation. It was rulled that his statements were not binding and irrelevant to the decision.

Do we know if the 10 years starts from this year or from when Sony's current deal with Activision expires next year?

IE does this deal end in 2034 or 2035?

And Phil Spencer is an honest and trustworthy person.

Blame that on Microsoft for not giving a damn about Spider-Man when they had it. Sony gave proper funding and support, which is why we're actually getting Spider-Man games now.
You’re ignoring my point. You think Indiana jones should also be on PlayStation while ignoring the fact Spider-Man is exclusive to Sony. That’s called hypocrisy.

Look at what I was talking about with the other poster instead of spinning.

Sony is going to have to either invest very heavily in Apex and Battlefield or create their own COD competitor.

OR

Fuck all that and just double down on what you excel at.

AAA SP IP

Market your console as the place to play premiere single player experiences
It would have to invest into inhouse shooter projects. Investing in 3rd party shooter games runs the risk of having them merger later with a competitor.

If it were that easy, why is Microsoft trying to buy up content for games that are mainly non single player titles? Why are they going after titles with giant MP and F2P focus?

Also Sony's own marquee single-player 1P games are nowhere near as cheap to make as Nintendo's are. They don't have the nostalgia factor Nintendo does, either (and a lot of that is Sony's fault for not retaining legacy IP as well as they could've).

So you ignored the ff part I figured as much. Sf5, spiderman and exclusive ff games are all fake concerns for the narratives of "double standards"

If you like spiderman or ff buy a playstation and don't blame sony.

All this over COD......to me thats unbelievable but then again I'm one of those very few people who never touched COD.

In fact the only thing I ever bought from Activision was Sekiro and thats it.

I don't like Spiderman. And Spiderman is first party. You were the one crying about an Xbox exclusive game, but MS probably don't have anything to do about it being exclusive to begin with.

Don't be so embittered because Sony brought the current situation upon them :messenger_winking:
