What do you think the ratio of cg nothing trailers to actual trailers that matter with gameplay, will be? These things always seem like glorified indeed postings now. Waste of everyones time to show a nothing trailer for a game thats still ten years off because you are desperate for talent.
I take that back. 60/40

If all the rumoured/speculated games are actually in a state to show off this week, then I'm not sure they will - there's space for 3rd-parties as well:

Could be there:
  • Spiderman 2 (rumoured to be available later this year, so needs to start getting the marketing rolling)
  • Last of Us Factions (how long has this been under wraps - probably revealed)
  • Wolverine (teased before, insomniac seem to be the most efficient devs and could easily have another short trailer)
  • Cory's game (much rumoured, presumably in production for a while now)
  • Sucker Punch next game (Ghost of Tsushima 2? - been a while since GoT)
  • Housemarque game (they are presumably working on something since Returnal was a "launch window" release)
  • BluePoint game (MGS remake rumour mill and again Demon's souls was a launch title so it's been 3 years)
  • Haven Studio's game (so good Sony bought the studio?)
  • London Studio's game
  • Guerilla's next thing (Horizon mulitplayer thingy)
  • Astrobot 2 (likely candidate for VR treatment)
Less likely:
  • Deviation game?
  • Firewalk game?
  • Sony Bend?
3rd-Party:
  • MK1 (seems a lock)
  • FF7 next instalment / SE block
  • Pragmata? / Capcom block
  • Death Stranding 2?
  • Konami stuff?
This is just of the top of my head - and there are potentially a fair amount of PS studios reveals (of things that are well-known already) - and then there's 3rd-party stuff and potential surprises. I suspect it will actually be quite constrained. Even if certain things could be shown off/are ready, there's no need to reveal things too early and put pressure on meeting deadlines etc.

I'm going to be happy to see something completely new/un-rumoured, as I'm not particularly interested in many of the things that are apparently coming - should be fun.

So my guess is that it won't meet expectations of many people simply because it's not in the dev teams interests to put together demos/slices for this sort of thing unless it's the beginning of a marketing push before release.

I said it in the other thread. With XVI final previews droppin' today I feel FF7 Rebirth is a lock for the showcase.
I think you might be right.

It's been a while since we've had a proper look at the game since its unveiling, and I recall Nomura or another lead mentioning that fans should expect to see Rebirth sooner than typically expected.
Rebirth is possibly further along than people realize, although I can still see it slipping into 2024.

Well their release schedule for it is this winter which technically extends to March of 2024 but here's the thing.....

That means they are missing the PR season of next summer. So they don't even get the biggest time to market their game next year. So it's now or never.

Granted it's still a release window and not a locked-in date, I think they wanted some extra wiggle room in case Rebirth needed more polish & debugging.
I wouldn't really mind considering how FFXVI seems to have greatly benefited from nearly a year of polish after the game was more or less finished.

Marketing wise I think FFVII's brand recognition is a bit more powerful than a new original FF entry, even a mainline one.
So it'll possibly do even better than FFXVI's June release, both of which are console exclusive to PS5, as far as we know.

1 third proper gameplay trailers
1 third CG trailers for stuff that won't be out until at least 2026
1 third "in engine" cinematic trailers that will get everyone talking about graphics until it launches 2 years later and everyone whines about a "downgrade" because they still don't get that "in engine" =/= gameplay.

Deviation game has likely been cancelled or sent back to the concept stage based on the 90 people they laid off.

This is probably more of a Nintendo Direct thing, but I'd love to see a Saga Frontier 2 Remastered announcement.

What is everyone betting on Little Devil Inside?

Trailer with release date?
Trailer, no release date?
No show?
Silently cancelled?

Damn I had completely forgotten about that one.
I hope it didn't get cancelled, would be nice to finally get a release date (maybe day 1 on Ps+ extra?)

If it's a no show I'd have to assume something went seriously wrong and it might be vaporware.

Why would there be PC games at a playstation showcase?
Because Sony has a subsidiary called PlayStation PC LLC that publishes ports of some of their PlayStation games on PC, a market where SIE wants to expand.

And they don't only want to grow in console or PC, but also in mobile and via movies/tv shows.

Trailer with release date. If not appearing in the showcase would get a trailer with release date another day.

I’d be very surprised if they spent a Sony PlayStation showcase talking or showing anything PC other than a new game being multiplatform.

People tune into these things for console exclusives and PS5 announcements not expansion into other markets and PC games. That’s more of a blog article or state of play type thing.

I've not got PS+ as I'm single player focused, but the list of games available on Extra is rather tempting. More so when Sony adds stuff like Humanity.

It's pretty good if you don't need to play new games at launch.
I subscribed for a year when it launched because I had purchased my Ps5 recently and it was a cheap way to play a bunch of exclusives (returnal, Miles Morales, Demon Souls Remake, etc) , and so far I've been pretty happy with it.
Seems like at least every other month they add something I'm legitimately interested in.

Sucker Punch next game (Ghost of Tsushima 2? - been a while since GoT)
Probably too soon, they released GoT 3 years ago, but later they also released the MP mode and the expansion/PS5 version.

  • Housemarque game (they are presumably working on something since Returnal was a "launch window" release)
I think it's too soon, Returnal was released barely 2 years ago

  • BluePoint game (MGS remake rumour mill and again Demon's souls was a launch title so it's been 3 years)
After Demon's Souls Bluepoint moved away from remasters and remakes according to their boss, and the first original game where they worked is GoWR. The whole Bluepoint staff appears in the game credits. Some of their workers who detailed the projects and time worked on them in LinkedIn mention they started to work soon after Demon's Souls and ended late 2022.

So apparently they haven't been working in anything else before the GoWR release half a year ago and I'd be really surprised to see something shown with only around half a year of work.

  • Haven Studio's game (so good Sony bought the studio?)
I'd bet the Firewalk game instead because they started the studio in 2018. Haven started in 2021, even if they already had done preproduction at Google.

Less likely:
  • Deviation game?
Seems they fired several people, at least a handful dozen. According to an uncorfirmed report, up to 90. Pretty likely their game has been cancelled or its development got rebooted.

  • Sony Bend?
According to Jason Shchreir the development of their new was greenlighted March 2021. I'd say it's too early to show it now.

3rd-Party:
  • Death Stranding 2?
It's 2nd party, meaning it's 1st party too. Not 3rd party.

What even is MGS without Kojima?
A videogame

The forums are full of PC players port begging Sony games.

Sony said that the showcased will focus on PS5 and PSVR2 and will last a bit over an hour.

It's perfectly compatible with spending 30 seconds to announce GoT (or Bloodborne) is coming to PC, or if announcing one of the Bungie new IPs under development, to mention that is also coming to PC. Or to announce there the -if real- Horizon MMORPG supposedly developed by as I remember Netease, which I assume would be mainly targeted to PC.

That would be a tiny portion of their conference, so it would continue focused on PS5 and PSVR2.

Hopefully taken out back and cancelled. The game was meant to be out in 2016. Check out their Kickstarter, the treatment of the backers through the whole process has been nothing short of shameful.

The game also looked like it walked back a lot of its ambition between the 2020 and 2021 trailers.

This showcase will be a big steaming pile of uninspired AAA Western made mediocre shite.

^I wanna see some genuinely exciting, classic or straight up weird and zany experiences. You can miss me with the homogenized "narrative driven cinematic experience walk and talk open world games" or the "super safe and sanitized fun for the whole family kid friendly fests".
