How the FUCK do devlopers keep getting away with visual downgrades? latest example, Forspoken

Lmao. I cant believe this is even an argument. Tell me the PS5 is your first console without telling me PS5 is your first console.

Are you trying to argue developers haven't been prioritizing 30fps over 60fps in order to have better visuals in their games over higher framerate?
Cute, but that's not what you claimed. You said that the game would objectively look better if they "strictly" targeted 30fps. They target both 30 and 60fps. Now please tell me, how does a 60fps mode hinder the 30fps mode? Why would the 30fps mode look better if the 60fps mode wasn't around?

It's not your fault the first time. I'll throw you a bone. Let's say it's not even your fault the first hundred times.
Yeah people should just magically know in each case when publishers are being dishonest with game footage.
The game would objectively look better had it been targeting strictly 30fps and adding in bells and whistles. Dont bother quoting me again if you're going to deny that.
Or maybe the game was never going to look like regardless of framerate ie bullshot.

What exactly does this post prove other than he likes the way the game looks in it's current state (post bullshots)?

This conspiracy theory you're alluding to would make more sense if said company didn't go out of their way to explicitly state when trailers are not running in real-time on the hardware

What companies say in marketing vs what we end up getting are two different things. Always err on the side of caution. It’s a tale as old as time with many examples of companies trying to bamboozle us.

Forspoken definitely has one of the biggest downgrades of all time. And for no apparent reason, because Horizon (cross gen game) looks better than Forspoken's PRE-RELEASE footage. And Forspoken is 100% next-gen only

I can’t make sense of this. The first trailer ran on PC yes but that was in summer of 2020 when the best card was a 2080 ti which is roughly 35% faster than a 2080 the ps5 is comparable with in non RT games.

This is a next Gen only game from the very beginning that wasn’t held back by last gen design decisions, hardware, and scope. It seems Like instead of trying to figure out why the downgrades are necessary and improve the engine, they just reduced the settings and kept reducing until it looked worse than most last gen games. They are clearly bottlenecked by something because games like red dead, ac and far cry look better than this. Forget Horizon third parties have better looking draw distance and foliage than this.

I can agree with this. I personally wish more companies would adopt the Insomniac approach where they show you amazing looking alpha footage that only gets better upon release date (specifically referring to Rift Apart).

Well imagine how much better you could draw a frame if I gave you twice the time to draw it.

I mean.... come on, guy.
I see that reading comprehension is as hard as ever to come by.

He said the game would look better if they targeted strictly 30fps. There is a 60fps and a 30fps mode. How would removing the 60fps mode improve the 30fps mode?

The second picture of yours looks like a switch port. While the demo was not exactly a looker, it didn't look like this. Using terrible picture quality of different locations in the game does not a good comparison make.
The demo did look like this, downgrading confirmed and high ass PC configuration confirmed, Gotham knights all over again.

Clearly you can see what it looks like prior to buying it. Don’t like the way it looks, don’t buy it. I could see an issue if you had no idea what the final game looked like graphically prior to buying it and then being disappointed but this isn’t the case.

That reminds me of screen shots when the Xbox One launched. I have to imagine those are shots were captured in the worse spots found

Does a big Mac ever look as good as it does on a TV ad? There's your answer.

Trailers are Ads. Nothing more, nothing less. They can slap a "subject to change" disclaimer in tiny ass letters and get away with any legal trouble.

Want to make them change? DO NOT PREORDER! Do not buy day one. Wait for reviews. Not just from handpicked shills as it seems to be for this game, but wait for reviews of outlets/people you trust. Judge the release version and then make consider your buy decision. Until the majority of the gaming populace adopts something similar, publisher's can, and will, get away with it.

You're right. I misinterpreted the argument. My mistake.

Really excited to see the reviews on this one lol . The launch trailer had one to three word extractions from places saying good things , but the way it’s done seems like they were pulling the one nice thing that could be said in an otherwise negative review. None of it was scores… just word vomit lol.

This is going to be Babylon Fall 2 levels of doo doo me thinks from Square.

I’m here for it. If it ends up somehow not running like trash on PC I’ll pay top dollar for a dumpster fire .

A game targeting 1440p/30 from the ground up is very different from a game whose 30fps mode is just an up-rez of the 60fps mode. Completely different assets and geometry targets between the 2 scenarios.

When games come out looking spectacular and they are difficult to run on low end-average hardware (which is what consoles are) then you hear cries of "unoptimised" from the rooftops.

Please understand, this is generation entitled.
They're not low end average hardware though. Don't you have a 4090 with the best you can get PC? Maybe low end to you but they're still premium consoles and are better than what the average person who owns a pc or console has.

It's not unreasonable to expect games amazing looking games to run at at least a rock Solis 30 fps as we've seen from the likes of Horizon, callisto Protocol, God of War, Spiderman etc

It's also not unreasonable to get pissed when shown a game supposedly running on ps5 and for that to get massively downgraded or to realize the devs were lying through their teeth running PC footage passed off as ps5.

TBH things change during the development the reveal trailer is not the real represenation of the game. People are naive if they believe in bullshots, in engine trailer. For me personally I simply do not care how the game looked before, do not care about bullshots, photo mode, in engine trailer. Of course it is disappointing but once the game goes gold that is the final output and it is what matters in the end.

And since you don't know how they worked on this game, this is irrelevant. What makes you think they didn't just target 30fps and then dropped settings across the board to reach 60 after? This game does a far better job at holding 30 than 60.

Not to that mention you make a claim but have nothing to back it up.

My guess is that the first reveal was just a tech demo and as such it ran fine on the PS5, being a limited experience and all.

A full blown game on the other hand…

I'm not the guy you were quoting/responding to, I was just giving an example on how 30fps is not all the same.

I just checked to see what gaming engine it uses and apparently it's the same engine that Final fantasy 15 used.

So, at the end, the game is just an upscaled PS4 game.

I'm still waiting for a true game that pushes the PS5 graphics. Like how RDR2 pushed my ps4 so hard that it sounded like a jet engine at times. But it looked... Phenomenal.
